  1. I am updating it because I noticed two cranes near the ballpark and I'll go ahead and add Parallon too. I organized them by area: 12 total. I could've sworn there used to be more (wasn't somebody's count 17 in a photo earlier in this thread?), but maybe that's because certain buildings have been completed like 12/12, Gulch Crossing, the building next to element and the HGI on KVB. Downtown: 1 Sobro The Gulch: 1 Eakin Midtown/Music Row 2 Element 2 Aertson 1 sesac 1 new vandy bldg 1 cadence North Gulch/Capitol district: 2 near ballpark 1 Parallon
  2. I noticed that as well. I couldn't find anything on the TDOT website. I know there's going to be a huge bridge project starting in June, maybe that work is to open up a workspace. They're going to close I-40/65 between Demunbreun street and Charlotte every weekend for a year starting in June. All interstate traffic will be re-routed around the loop. Demunbreun street will still be accessible from I-40 west. That is going to be a nightmare, especially during big events.
  3. I think we should keep a crane tally while this boom is still happening: 1 Sobro 2 Element 2 Aertson 1 Eakin 1 sesac 1 new vandy bldg 1 cadence Let me know if I left anything out. Before the end of 2015: Bridgestone Westin Thompson Edit: fixed skyhouse to cadence edit # 2: put in Element (couldn't remember the name) thanks timmay143
  4. I skimmed a lot of the nashville next stuff but what interested me most were a few things: -a proposal for a pedestrian bridge connecting west Nashville with the park across the cumberland - a proposal to transform the NW intersection of Nolensville Rd and Harding pike, converting the large parking lot and vacant kmart into an office park with a large greenspace lining harding up to the intersection -several proposals for new road connectors including: *many south of OHB near lennox villiage, turning rural countryside into urban development. this includes the widening of Nolensville pike south of OHB *a connector not unlike my own proposal I made on this site that connects Walsh rd to Murfreesboro pike (mine went even past that and over the river, maybe a bit too ambitious) *fixing the annoying ass Eastland intersection, making it connect properly, which is something I have been hoping they'd do for a long time. *a proposal to make the gallatin/11th intersection into a roundabout. That intersection is so annoying but I think a roundabout would turn into a nightmare. Most people in nashville don't know how to drive on them and putting one on such a main throughfare like Gallatin is just asking for trouble. If it was there it would have to be enormous, and would be a bit tricky to construct, considering it's on a hill. *a connector avenue that bypasses the white bridge pike & west end intersection
  5. It would be nice but I can't help but cringe at what that intersection would be like during construction. They would probably close off a lane each of West End and Broadway.
  6. College attainment 32%? That hurts. I still can't believe so few people get college degrees. Even I got a degree and I am lazy, unorganized, unmotivated and a chronic procrastinator. But one thing I do have is family history. my parents and my dad's parents all had college degrees.
  7. I don't think I've ever been so elated to see a structure demolished! Good riddance shady looking parking garage.
  8. If I had a dollar for every time you mentioned your office view, I would use the billions to quit my job and do some world traveling.
  9. If I closed off lower broad I would close broad from 5th to the river, turn broadway into a one way eb street at 6th avenue, make 5th south of broad strictly pedestrian down to Demunbreun + make 5th north one way up to commerce. Close 1st and 2nd between church and dem., keep 3rd (change to nb one way when broad is closed) and 4th open as is (but make it one way all the way down to kvb), close commerce between 5th and 2nd. This would fudge traffic up to no end and if it happened, so much so that every single one of you would regret it, but that would be the best way to do it if it was done. Edit: I didnt say "fudge". Fudge loses the punch of the what I was trying to say. I know most of you are twice my age but whats so wrong with an f bomb now and then?
  10. I think MM was the only thing that was really profitable on that block. I am glad they are keeping it. Really good pizza, although I haven't been in years. It was hopping last time I went but maybe the construction has deterred people. Mellow Mushrooms always appear near college campuses. There is one in Knoxville near UT, one near Clemson and another near MTSU iirc. And those are only the ones I know of. Aertson is coming up pretty fast. I love that this and Sobro are both above ground. Give it a couple more weeks and we will start to really see it rise.
  11. I was looking at the master plan of Centennial Park the other day and it showed plans for putting 31st in a tunnel under the park, rather than bisecting part of it like it is now. Any word on this? I think that's really interesting but it sounds expensive, especially when connecting to the 28/31st causeway.
  12. Wow. I don't even remember the construction of this thing. In the mid 90's there was no reason for my Dad to take me downtown, until that thing was open and we could watch the Preds and the Nashville Cats. We did a lot of things, Starwood, Opryland theme park, the Science museum (IIRC it wasn't called "Adventure Science Center" in the 90's) etc. but never went DT until the arena.
  13. Is that Aertson I see in the first pic? You can barely see it passed the two cranes for apartments at the roundabout. Anyways nice work.
  14. I think it is a mistake to try and redevelop that strip. It is extremely popular and successfull. I think eventually this could be a good thing, but not now. Edit: talking about "demunbreun hill" just to clarify
  15. Well since they are working around the clock, 6 months of work can be accomplished in 3.
  16. Anyone know about the construction at the corner of hermitage and kvb? I saw fencing on the sidewalk and a bulldozer. It is across kvb from the new riverfront project
  17. Architects have money. I wish I made what architects make. Hell I wish I was an architect.
  18. I have noticed that trend. He forgot to point out the Petronus Towers which were built during the asian market collapse of the late 90's, or that the current tallest, the Burj Khalifa, was topped out in 2008. So lets wait and see if the trend continues once the new worlds tallest building, the kilometer high kingdom tower, is finished
  19. I think people have been confusing the Eakin with the Gulch Crossings. The Gulch Crossings is the nearly complete glass building with an entrance on Demunbreun. Eakin is little more than a hole in the ground at this point (though it has the crane up), right in front of 12/12 at the corner of 12th and Demunbreun.
  20. I think it should stay as is. It is a nice feature driving down Gleaves st.
