  1. Why do some posters on here seem always willing to beat a dead horse. We know someone doesn't like our congressman but 5th district Congressional voters do, so move your politics to the coffee house. It tiring and boring .
  2. Love much about what they are doing but they needed the economy lot C badly. The parking znd Uber pick up areas are a mess.
  3. If you are looking for the major European cities you have good one stop on Delta through Atlanta or NYC Kennedy but the easiest is using Detroit. Detroit connects to the larger cities but Atlanta and NYC Kennedy go to more .
  4. I've seen a number of W Hotels around the country and this is the plainest ,most basic exterior design they could have done. Hope the interior offers some pizzazz.
  5. I certainly appreciate the work and the detail and absolutely understand the time and effort this massive list must have taken. I don't know any other person with the knowledge or interest to be able to replicate something like this. A big thanks from me for sure!!!!!
  6. I have flow twice in the last two months and both times the security was extremely fast even though the airport seemed to be very busy. One was to Dallas before Christmas and another just back from Denver. Both flights were totally full and the expanded baggage claim area is welcomed and has plenty of room. There still appear to be a number of the retail areas in both C and D gates that are under construction, but I'm very impressed with the new D and what I am seeing in the terminal itself. On the other hand, the parking needs work, too much walking to get to the surface lot or the new multi-story parking garage, but the lighting is impressive. They badly need moving sidewalks and/or shuttle buses to the surface lot. The old C lot and the one across Donelson Pike are not being used.
  7. They are connecting Glen Echo and Crestmoor not Richard Jones/Abbott Martin. Our councilman sent out a notice that FINALLY, CVS was ready to begin construction where Krystal (corner of Hillsboro and Crestmoor) used to be and once that is complete, they will tear down the current CVS and connect the two streets which will elminate one red light. Much more is needed but this is finally happening
  8. Please be consistent on squashing the political talk, which I applaud. I think we all know several on here that seem to constantly bash Jim and John Cooper and frankly its tiring, (just as the Sticks sculpture and Westin have been beaten to death). From some posts you would think Nashville is going down hill fast due to these men.
  9. I think the city has been spoiled by the property tax rate being so low, likely impacted by the heavy amount of taxes from tourism. We have had the luxury of being so low for so long, people forget how good we've had it. I own a condo on 30A in Walton County Florida with 1/3 of the square footage of my home in Green Hills and I pay over $1600 more per year there for a 1000 sq ft. condo. Best friends in Dallas pay FOUR times what I pay here and the house is appraised at about 35% of my value. The even bigger concern is that if the referendum is on the ballot, with the economy as it is and likely will be, it will pass and will totally hamstring any future ability for the council to act on bond issue, taxes. This will cripple this city and we will be voting constantly on these issues. They are not being truthful about blaming Cooper for the 34%, it was the council that passed this and Cooper did sign it. Cooper had proposed a slightly smaller increase, 32.5% I think.
  10. As impressive as it is in pictures, it is even more stunning in person, probably second most impressive to me to the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
  11. As long as they do contribute in many ways, charitable donations, clothes pantries, homeless shelters, etc...I really don't have a problem with that either. On the other hand, MANY of the mega churches do not contribute little , if any, but have super wealthy ministers, coffee shops, full scale work out facilities, stage political rallies, etc. and we tax payers do contribute to them having free fire protection, police protection, garbage pickup, etc. My point is I do not personally want to subsidize these and maybe there should be some formula to at a very minimum have some tax contribution to pay for the services they get from the city. If you drive up Hillsboro Rd from 440 toward Green Hills, count the amount of property occupied by churches, other than a few homes around Golf Club, the right side of Hillsboro is all church untaxed property within a few properties from Green Hills Mall.
  12. Another valuable piece of property not getting any tax revenue.
  13. All indications this is a Lee Beaman/Carol Swain idea.
  14. I agree, there is a lot of things going on that seem way over done. The dorms further east on Broadway seem much more appropriate and classy, these seem almost gaudy.
  15. I believe from what I know that the above from Rockatansky is accurate. The one thing I do believe also occurred is that the tax assessors office was VERY lenient with anyone who came in to protest their reassessment and lowered some at ridiculous amounts. I live in Green Hills and had a substantial decrease. I have heard many mixed stories of increases and decreases. The main issue, and I do understand that no one wants a huge increase, but compared to virtually any other city in the country ,we have by far the lowest property taxes anywhere. He is right that the rates in Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Murfreesboro and Clarksville ( I believe) are all higher that the new increased amount.
  16. With Lee, Blackburn, and Alexander, do you honestly think it fair to blame the John/Jim Cooper? Glad it is not coming here, feel sorry for Jacksonville.
  17. Is this a bed and breakfast for anyone or is it just for the artists that are recording there? Pretty impressive.
  18. There is an apartment complex on Charlotte near Sylvan Park that has red like this and in less than two years, it is a very light pink color. I don't understand how these architects and developers use things that will easily fade. A similar situation occurs where they use natural wood to accent and only use a stain or sealant, not paint, and in less than a year, the wood looks like crap.
  19. And it is free, the delivery and the groceries too, if you qualify based on income, etc.
  20. I was in the new Publix at Capital View downtown and was surprised how well virtually all the shelves were stocked, with a good crowd and very helpful staff. The Green Hills Kroger and Belle Meade Publix are pretty bare in many areas, canned goods, pasta, frozen foods particularly.
  21. The new Publix in Capital View downtown is very well stocked compared to the tons of empty shelves of the Kroger in Green Hills or the Publix in Belle Meade.
  22. I fly quite a bit, both domestically and internationally, and I find Southwest and Delta seem to be good about on time departure and arrival, with American and United being the worst and American by far. American also has the WORST customer service if you have issues, arrogant and rude many times. Delta is my choice for international and if you fly virtually any European airlines, they are all superior to most domestics with the exception of Spanish airline, Iberia. KLM, SAS and Air France have been very good in my experiences.
