  1. Wow... What a bunch of idiots we have for lawmakers. First they want to restrict funding Now, they want to restrict the creation of mass transit What's next , restrict the use of public transportation? Require everyone to have cars and buy them from Beaman? Why is some idiot from East Ridge trying to tell the city of Nashville what it can do with it's roads. I guess he and Beaman are best buds? I guess Memphis will have to retire their Street cars and pull up the rails... Since they run in the center lanes on some streets. This has gone too far!! Sorry for the rant, but I'm pissed.
  2. I can't sleep....Hurry Hurry please tell us so I can finally get some rest My guess would be Eakin or Sheet Music and a national relocation or expansion to Nashville
  3. There's a tent outside her building...maybe she had a camp out night with the grandkids? That building has no windows? If there is any in the back, they are blocked now by the apartment building.
  4. Was reading this article today and found this to be interesting: Also on Wednesday, Obama will announce the opening of a new round of DOT’s TIGER grants, making $600 million available for projects nationwide. The new round of competitive grants will place an emphasis on “transformative” projects that will have “significant impact on the nation or a region,” expand job access and increase economic opportunities, or catalyze economic development, the White House said. Does this mean projects that were submitted last year will know if they are approved for the grant or does it mean they are making $600 mil more money available for new projects to be submitted this year When was Dean and Team suppose to find out if they got the grant for the AMP? Is it early 2014 or late 2014? Read more: http://www.politico.com/story/2014/02/president-obama-transportation-bill-103980.html#ixzz2uR2w3VDj
  5. Yay...but for Tony G. With all of these high rise luxury apartment buildings breaking ground/being completed, he needs to get the dirt moving....just saying. This is going to really have an impact on this area of town, especially since this property sits on a hill.
  6. I actually kind of like the Hyatt Place....especially at night. It's Growing on me. It looks good from the 24/65 interstate downtown. Definitely should have had more glass incorporated into the design Now I absolutley hate this view/angle of the hotel
  7. A little National spotlight for Nashville and the Gulch http://www.billboard.com/biz/articles/country/5908472/crs-week-the-gulch-offers-knock-your-socks-off-alternative-to-standard
  8. Found this....Haven't heard much lately on this site until now. Nashville building owned by federal government falling apart NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - A building owned by taxpayers is falling to pieces, but the federal government is dragging its feet with the prime piece of downtown Nashville real estate. The brick facade on the old Hewgley music store at Seventh Avenue North and Commerce has fallen off, and officials have now closed the entire sidewalk in front of the store, where bricks litter the ground behind the barricade. The crumbling building is owned by the federal government, which bought much of the big block 10 years ago. The original plan was to build a new federal courthouse on the property, but that project is still on hold. The Government Accountability Office has done studies that question whether Nashville really needs a new courthouse. "The federal government needs to sell this property," said Richard Wallace, who sells real estate. Wallace sees the block as an eyesore - property that should be back in private hands and on the tax rolls. "I've had people in all this week - today from out of town, tomorrow from Austin, TX, the next day from Huntsville, AL - everyone's looking for sites for retail, for apartment buildings, for office buildings. This is a great block," he said. - The Feds need to sell this prime spot and let the private sector develop it....hopefully not into a parking lot. What do you all think would be the best use of this spot? U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Nashville, wants the government to keep the land, still contending a federal courthouse will be built there someday. - Keep wishing Jimmy....will be built "someday" - meaning NEVER In the meantime, the federal government's General Services Administration has closed the sidewalk to protect pedestrians and said it will hire a contractor to demolish the building in the spring. While the old building will come down, the future of the block is still very much up in the air. Copyright 2014 WSMV (Meredith Corporation). 9. Rumored lower Broad Walgreens stirs wounds of scuttled hotel http://www.wkrn.com/story/24758583/rumored-lower-broad-walgreens-stirs-wounds-of-scuttled-hotel OH NO....say it aint so! Please NO!!! We already have a Walgreens on 5th in the Arcade. Wasn't the point of the Ave of the Arts and making it two-way was to get patrons from lower broad to explore upper 5th ave and the arcade area? So the Walgreens in the arcade would close?? If they are coing to put retail in that spot, buy all the parcels and put a nice urban 2 story grocery store.
  10. Thanks for that explanation and helping me understand the process better! I read an article in the Tennessean yesterday about a developer looking to put affordable units on a lot at West Trinity lane and 65S. That developer would be receiving an MDHA grant and HUD loans, so I think you are right about those organizations giving funds and having those stipulations.
  11. I agree....the laws of supply and demand at work. If I was a developer I would probably care less about affordable units...You're in it to win it!
  12. Tennessean article on the Charlotte/46th development...a little more details http://www.tennessean.com/article/20140218/BUSINESS02/302180022/2095/BUSINESS02 I wish they would include some affordable units in all of these apartment developments going up around town. Are developers only required to have some affordable units in their development if they are receiving TIF or HUD Grants or something? $1200 for a 400 sf apartment is pretty steep for your average working professional. I would think $800-950 for a 1 bd 400-600sf apartment would attract more recent college grads, and those make the median Nashville salary.
  13. Interesting article about the demand for dowtown retail Retailers look to open downtown Nashville stores http://www.tennessean.com/article/20140218/BUSINESS02/302180024/2095/BUSINESS02 Found this part interesting: UBS Tower. Rubicon Equities, the new owner of the building formerly Regions Center on Deaderick Street, has been mum about its redevelopment plans beyond announcing Swiss bank UBS as the anchor tenant. But a glimpse at materials provided to local brokers show a high-end retail complex with 74,826 square feet of space for retailers - Are they talking about the ground level spaces of the UBS Tower....does anyone know anything about this? On a side note, I am really looking forward to seeing what retailers are brought in for the Capital View project
  14. Not responding to anyone in particular, just giving my 2 cents. I can recall when Dean pitched the idea to create the 28th Ave connector and there were comments residents that crime would increase in the West End area due to North Nashville residents coming over, committing a crime on the West side, then having quicker access to "book it" back to the north side without anyone knowing. The 28th Ave connector is open and I have not heard or seen of stats discussing crime increases in the West End/Centennial Park area as result. The MTA University connector bus is on this route. I think a lot of it is fear of change and the idea that those who use public transportation are low income, uneducated, crime committing people. Nashvillians have to get over this stigma before we can get anywhere on mass transit, especially in the urban areas.
  15. Interesting article from Ole Butchy....more of what we have heard before though. Seems like the chamber is really pushing and pitching for another full service hotel near MCC. Hopefully we will get an announcement soon...come on Tony or Westin guys! Doesn't T.G. have the approval for the TIF...what is he waiting on! http://www.nashvilleledger.com/editorial/Article.aspx?id=71510
  16. I love the skyline view on the linked page...wow! I have never seen downtown from that vantage point. I have always loved the view of Downtown coming from 8th ave south towards downtown....the same view from 65S to downtown from the south nashville area.
  17. I agree. I think it has more to do with neon lights that the city currently has and had back in the day. Just about every liquor store, gentleman's club, and roadside motel had a neon light sign. And of course Broadway downtown. Long live NashVegas!
  18. Trattoria Il Mulino, New York Italian restaurant, coming to Nashville New Italian restaurant going into the space previously occupied by the Sports Grille in the Hilton Downtown. Add this to the list of New York restaurants that have recently opened up shop in Nashville: Music City Tippler, and Two Boots Pizza. I find this pretty interesting: "As part of the work, outdoor seating for the restaurant space will be raised up to the sidewalk level off Fifth Avenue South, Waters said." This will definitely help with street activation on 5th avenue across from the arena. The current outdoor patio is about 5ft below the sidewalk level. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20140205/BUSINESS01/302050089/2095/BUSINESS02
  19. Green Hills Mall Expansion http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2014302030041 I'm pretty sure this expansion has already been discussed, but I have always wondered in my mind how come the folks that are opposed to the Southern Land tower, have nothing to say about the constant expansion of GHM. The last expansion was in 2011. I would think that the Cheesecake Factory, Nordstrom, and Tiffany's and all of the other stores in the mall that are unique to the state would cause more traffic headaches than an apartment/office tower. Those are destination retail and restaurants that draw people from all over. I haven't heard not one word of opposition to the mall's latest expansion, but someone propose an office or residential project and the war drums start beating. Just my little observation.
  20. American Girl store headed for CoolSprings Galleria http://www.tennessean.com/article/20140205/BUSINESS/302050150/American-Girl-store-headed-CoolSprings-Galleria These dolls have quite the following. This store will do really well in Cool Springs. I have walked by the stores in Atlanta and Chicago and they are always packed with customers. Another retail win for Nashville!
  21. I'm going to miss that little coin shop...so many great memories there. Not many coin shops left in the city.
  22. If only our state leaders would support the mass transit plans of the urban areas of our state, as North Carolina supports their urban areas, both Charlotte and Raleigh. Beth Harwell and company should know that States investing in the mass transit plans of the urban areas is not something that is unheard of or new. Maybe if we stop spending billions to expand highways and invest some of that money into mass transit, we would be able to keep up with the major urban areas of Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas. Even though the majority of the cities in those states have some kind of alternate dedicated funding source for mass transit, the state is still invested. Maybe one day Tennessee lawmakers will wake up....before Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, and Chattanooga are left behind the times. All other cities will be flying space ships and we will just be getting the AMP approved - hopefully running on solar by then lol CATS rail extension to UNC Charlotte receives state funding - http://www.metro-magazine.com/news/story/2012/04/cats-rail-extension-to-unc-charlotte-receives-state-funding-agreement.aspx The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte), Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), and state and local leaders “Staked their Claim” at a State Full Funding Grant Agreement ceremony for the LYNX Blue Line Light Rail Extension Project, last week. The state agreement will provide 25% of the funding for the LYNX Blue Line Extension (BLE) from Center City Charlotte to the UNC Charlotte campus. “The continued support from our state leaders allows us to advance with the vision set forth for transit in the Charlotte region,” said Carolyn Flowers, CATS CEO. “I am especially excited about the perseverance and resourceful approach CATS took to make the BLE a viable and attractive project, even with the drop in sales tax revenue we experienced over the last few years.” The support also prepares the system to receive a full funding grant agreement of 50% percent of the project costs from the Federal Transit Administration later this year. “The Blue Line Extension to the UNC Charlotte campus is another critical milestone in enhancing the University’s connectivity to Center City Charlotte,” UNC Charlotte Chancellor Dr. Philip L. Dubois said. “It will provide the community with greater access to the university’s many arts, cultural and athletic events, including 49ers football. The extension also will contribute tremendously to economic development by linking the state’s urban research university and two of the region’s largest centers of economic activity — Center City and University City.” The 9.4-mile alignment would run from Uptown Charlotte to the UNC Charlotte campus and include 11 light rail stations and four parking facilities. Construction of the $1.16 billion BLE Project is scheduled to begin fall 2013 with operational service expected in 2017.
  23. How about The Lee Beamon Stop the Amp Ballpark at Sulphur Dell. He and Beth Harwell could split the cost
