  1. Beretta moving all of its U.S. manufacturing to new Gallatin facility http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/blog/2014/07/beretta-moving-all-of-its-u-smanufacturing-to-new.html This is a BIG WIN for the Nashville Area...300+ jobs. I know from past articles that they were looking at multiple sites across the South and Midwest and for them to choose the Nashville area, speaks volume about our business climate and residents.
  2. Wow....I like the new design. This is going to look Stunning in Sobro. I like that they increased the retail portion to over 20k sq ft. Way to go Tony G!
  3. I was in Jacksonville this past weekend and noticed they have a people mover called the Jacksonville Skyway. It is 2.5 mile of track, with eight stations, traveling up to 35 mph. It was closed on the so I did not get a chance to ride it. I'm sure probably the same as the one in Vegas. It hasn't been successful in it's 20 year life due to the fact that Downtown Jax is dead and on life support after 5pm and there is hardly anything going on on the weekends, except for the Landing. Also, Downtown residential is dead as I only counted about 2-3 condo/apartment buildings downtown. Most of the their urban residential is across the river and on the Southside of Downtown. I wonder if something like this would work instead of the AMP. I know the AMP's route is longer, but would a monorail type train work for the AMP route? I couldn't find the total cost of Jax's system, but initial cost in 1989 was $34.6 for .7 miles I think we might have discussed a people mover for downtown before but couldnt remember. I applaud Jax for taking the initial in the late 80's to invest in mass transit. They definitely were ahead of Nashville in planning mass transit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacksonville_Skyway
  4. Nashville - 7 Great American Vacation Spots (That Won’t Bust Your Budget) http://time.com/#money/2945965/travel-value-guide-to-7-great-american-cities/
  5. I agree. After looking at google Maps at the proposed location, Something needs to be done with the upper level of the buildings housing the downtown cleaners, and the Greek restaurant (since they are boarded up), however, it is crucial for the ground level to remain retail on both 4th ave and printers alley in my opinion. The tenants on 4th are usually teeming with office workers for Lunch, the cleaners serves it purpose for downtown workers and residents, and how can you replace printers alley. Not sure how all of this will connect since these buildings are a hodge podge of different architectures, heights. Is this included in any kind of historic overlay?
  6. VW to invest $900 mln in Tennessee plant to build mid-sized SUV http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/07/14/vw-suv-usa-idUSL2N0PM1T820140714 This AWESOME news for the Chattanooga area and for the Tennessee economy as a whole. I think the Chattanooga ligt rail plan we learned about a couple of months back will get a serious look as the line is planned to start downtown and go out to the Enterprise South area where Volkswagen, Amazon, and other automotive suppliers are located. There has got to be some kind of mass transit going to this area, as there has been articles recently describing traffic and parking issues at this business park. I don't think planners initially planned for close to 5,000 workers working in this business park. http://timesfreepress.com/news/2014/jul/05/carta-eyes-new-enterprise-south-linenew-bus-route/ CARTA eyes new Enterprise South line: Bus route called parking solution for thousands of workers
  7. I was thinking the same thing lol. It looks like the red brink building on the left is in the same spot as it was in 1964. Interesting
  8. Nashville Zoo expansion plans: Lions, cheetahs, otters and more http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/local/2014/07/09/lions-cheetahs-otters-part-zoo-expansion-plans/12418137/ Lions, rhinos, cheetahs, gorillas, penguins and other new critters are headed to Nashville as part of a $160 million expansion plan unveiled Wednesday by the Nashville Zoo. When the undeveloped land is included, the zoo is the ninth-largest in the United States. This is Great news for the city of Nashville. The Zoo is a huge tourist draw, especially for families with kids. I think I saw in a past article that is was the #2 or 3 tourist attraction in Nashville. We have a great Zoo and it is only going to get better.
  9. This was pretty cool. That scoreboard is HUGE! Watch: Sounds virtual video tour of new ballpark http://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/baseball/2014/07/08/watch-sounds-virtual-video-tour-new-ballpark/12384251/
  10. see the below website regarding the masterplan for Centennial http://www.conservancyonline.com/home http://archive.tennessean.com/assets/pdf/DN161343725.PDF It looks like they may be on Phase 2 or 3 of 6.
  11. Boom town: Nashville's Fourth of July fireworks named No. 2 in the U.S. http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/blog/2014/07/boom-town-nashvilles-fourth-of-july-fireworks.html Nashville trails only New York City's "Macy's Fourth of July Spectacular" on this year's list. This year's local show (put on by Pyro Shows of Tennessee) will include more than 30,000 fireworks and will run for 27 minutes, making it the longest fireworks display in Nashville's history and the largest display in the South, according to the release. I'm looking forward to this years festivities....seems like it gets bigger and better each year.
  12. 10 reasons to get excited about Thrillist Nashville http://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nashville/reasons-you-should-care-about-thrillist-nashville?utm_content=body3&utm_term=Nashville&utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=6.25.14%20:%20Thrillist%20Digest
  13. Nashville one of nation's top 'industrial boomtowns,' Forbes says http://www.forbes.com/pictures/edgl45ghdi/no-2-nashville-davidson-murfreesboro-franklin-tn-2/ This is the picture they had for Nashville. After all of the " Forbe's Best" list Nashville has made, they dont know what our city looks like???!! Im thinking this is Pittsburg or Cleveland maybe??......
  14. Here is a larger view from the Tennessean: http://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/baseball/2014/06/20/nashville-sounds-scoreboard/11087779/ I like it! :") From NBJ
  15. So now there's a problem with being picky and complaining about everything. 80%+ people that post on here complain and is picky about something. Let's see: Amphitheater: design is blah, too modern, looks like it is from the sixties, not enough trees, too small seating area, should be 10k plus, don't need an Amphitheater Sounds stadium: dont like it, looks like a bus station, stadium arrangement is wrong, wrong location, shouldn't be named first TN park... On and on Convention center redevelopment: too tall for Broadway, ugly design, too futuristic, doesn't address the street, retail not needed, Inside looks like a mall... On and on. And these comments were made in the beginning design phases and first renderings. I make one statement about a bland square box, and the pitchforks come out. My opinion is just that... My opinion. If you don't like it no need to be nasty and use bad language. Agree to disagree.
  16. I know right....and this article isn't helping, even though it is just for humor. http://www.nashvillescene.com/bites/archives/2014/05/20/memo-to-memphis-all-your-barbecue-are-belong-to-us
  17. This SUCKS! No one wants to talk about, no one wants to do anything about it. 10 years from now, we are going to be at the same place we are now, unless this city administration and citizens get serious about mass transit funding. I thought the State was the mass transit foe, now I'm starting to think the city council is too. Councilman: Nashville Needs To Figure Out Transit Funding http://www.newschannel5.com/story/25571703/councilman-nashville-needs-to-figure-out-transit-funding
  18. Found this interesting and very surprising. News 2 finds top 5 cleanest grocery stores in Nashville http://www.wkrn.com/story/25572311/news-2-finds-top-5-cleanest-grocery-stores-in-nashville I would have at least thought that one of the grocery stores in the Bellemeade area would have made the list. There is a Kroger, Harris Teeter, and Publix, all within walking distance of one another in that area. Also, no Whole Foods in the top 5? Looks like Target is dominating in the cleanliness arena for the Nashville area
  19. The examples I gave were of similar sized projects, with similar budgets/finance structures, but a little bit different architecture. The Falcons/nfl have nothing to do with the atl Omni project . It's a public private deal like the Nashville project, same with Louisville, they just added a residential /retail component to it. The spec buildings were examples of developers building on speculation with no signed leases. The use will be the same - get it 100% leased. I Guess bland square boxes are the norm these days...seems like developers/architects in every city are doing it. Oh well... Maybe one day
  20. Great news for the city http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/blog/2014/05/why-you-might-see-another-final-four-in-nashville.html "Nashville hosted one of the most successful Women’s Final Four measured by attendance, fundraising and community involvement, and the NCAA has taken notice. “[The NCAA] is incredibly proud and jazzed about what Nashville has accomplished,” said Anucha Brown, vice president of Women's Basketball Championships at the NCAA, speaking today at a press conference in Nashville. “[We are] very much considering Nashville for another Women’s Final Four.”
  21. I agree that the elavation non-detailed rendering leaves much to imagine...but let's see ATL is proposing an Omni to their convention center for $207-245 mil. 800 room (doesnt say how tall) Definitely taller and nice than ours (in my opinion), and for $320mil we get a concrete box Downtown Louisville 600 room Omni,400 apartments, high-end grocery store, parking development $261mil Still a box, but more bang for the buck Spec building in Arlington County - 20 stories and 410,000 square feet Cost 110mil 10 story spec $75mil - Tempe, AZ
  22. I can find a similiar sized project, similiar budget, being developed in another city and the architecture would be 10x better. Not upset, just saying more can be done with what we have. That's all.
  23. I like it! Germantown is booming. I like how they incorporated bike spaces in their plans. Didn't the Dean Admin pass an ammendent requiring all new development have ample bike spaces...I think I remember that being passed.
  24. Exactly! We went from a very good rendering, to an OK rendering, to a Glass short Box! We probalby have the most glass, concrete box structures in the nation. Add this one to Roundabout plaza, Gulch crossing (which is a nice glass box), Suntrust plaza, the two identical state box buildings near bicentenial, and all of the others! Put these short glass boxes in Coolsprings....not in the urban core.
