  1. Trucks will not pay to drive around a city no matter what the speed limit. Case in point: Toll Road 130 east of Austin, TX.
  2. Do you have a link to their picture Antrell?
  3. When I look up the "I-10 Connector," I get the LA1/I-10 connector proposal through WBR that has nothing to do with Pecue. Are y'all talking about a way to connect Airline back to I-10 if it ever becomes an expressway?
  4. Unlike the I-410 proposal, thank you garrett_225 for your comment, at least using Airline would make it a conversion project and not a project from the ground up. I'm assuming that it's cheaper to rebuild as opposed to building from scratch.
  5. Toll roads tend to isolate commuters from retail and commercial areas along the way. I don't think this will help "build" the area much. Chicago even built the "Oasis" into their toll road design to make up for the loss of access to amenities. It will be difficult to get people to pay to use the main road when they can use the service road for free. New toll roads seldom even have service roads for this reason. There's no use having a service road if your going to toll it too. I don't think the road needs to be entirely elevated. They would have to do the whole project all at once and having to flip one big bill. They could do it in phases: 1) lay the flat service roads while people use the existing main road. 2) move people to the new service roads but keep the crossing roads like they have on Florida Blvd 3) build one overpass at a time to replace the main intersections from one end to the other
  6. That's very disappointing to hear. What a play on words? I would never make it as lawyer.
  7. A lot of times there are too many stop lights too close together that are never timed right, but some red lights can be a good thing. If the line runs on the inside next to or in the median red lights can make it safer for pedestrians crossing the road to board the train by causing car traffic to have to stop. Red lights also end up being the train stops a lot of the time. It's a different story if it runs on the outside without its own ROW.
  8. Couldn't agree with this any stronger.
  9. That's what I meant. I hope there are less distracted drivers in Baton Rouge. :-/
  10. Isn't the train in Houston accident prone?

I think having a light rail line on Gov't will be a vital addition to the system in the distant future. Like Antrell said in another thread, and I always thought, was that the city has to have a sufficient local transit system before it can expect anybody to use a train to come to Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge IS going to need a line on Gov't to connect the inter-city train to our Nicholson line. I, however, also think that Gov't is going to need some major "catalyst" projects to help justify the line. I think it was genius (or common sense) that they built a new streetcar line in New Orleans that connects the Amtrak and Greyhound stations to the rest of the system. We should do the same on this side of the line. One way that Baton Rouge could get a HUGE 1up on New Orleans is by building an express line to the airport.
  12. I hope that when they design the Baton Rouge terminus of the BR-NO, which is planned to go on the donated Entergy Campus in Mid-City Baton Rouge, they keep in mind that this could be only a temporary terminus and that this line could continue on to Lafayette in the future. I dream (haha) of a high speed train of some sorts connecting the Gulf Coast cities in the distant future. I'm just shooting for the stars...

Road repairs, sidewalks, streetcars, bike lanes, etc. I think the city should worry about its own streets (pet projects and repairs) within the city limits and the state can take care of the interstates and rural highways outside of the city limits.

I, like most people, didn't know this. It will make it easier to get more things done locally. http://www.nola.com/news/baton-rouge/index.ssf/2014/02/baton_rouge_louisiana_try_to_s.html#incart_big-photo
  15. I thought downtown was low on residential. Convert that beast to apartments!
  16. Yeah. When I said go around the park I was thinking tourists, but there isn't any demand for that.
  17. Since 3rd St. is such a skinny passage, what if the train took 4th St.? It would go up 4th, around State Capital Park and back down 4th. This street is much wider and wouldn't look as clustered as 3rd. Another issue I was thinking through was the track's transition from St. Louis (Nicholson) to either 3rd or 4th to go further north into downtown. I've been in some streetcars the articulate pretty well, but I don't think they turned 90* on a dime. They would have to cut into either the "yard" or the "plaza" of Towne Square to get a safe turning radius.
  18. If the train only had limited stops for efficiency, one of the northern stops (past Water Campus) would be at Town Square. Where do y'all think the other Downtown stop should be? I think North St. & 3rd is a good intersection due to its slightly higher density and taller buildings as compared to the rest of 3rd.
  19. Do you have proof of that itsjustme3? I remember hearing from some other source, but I can't remember who or where, that by passing the CATS tax CATS is now the only board that can issue some sort of transportation permit (to prevent competition). This may not be true and I may have it all wrong, but if it is true, why would CATS give anybody a permit that would give away a good chunk of their future income? And I can't imagine two different transit authorities operating on the same turf.
  20. Will CATS have any involvement with the new rail line between downtown to LSU. I know confidence isn't high with them right now, but I wonder if that will change and a pass for the train will be good for a bus too, and vice versa.
  21. A lot still needs to be cleaned up (taken down) in the section between the Fieldhouse Condos and McKinley St.
  22. For those who don't know what Monochrome furniture is, think Z Gallaria...ish. Very contemporary look.
  23. Something I thought about. If the incorporation goes through, will it become the St. George Advocate? Isn't their office in the unincorporated Siegen area?
