  1. My comment might be better placed in the Economic Conditions thread, but the U.S. is probably already in recession and inflation is hurting everyone. If people delay buying new phones and other electronics, then Asurion would see a drop in revenue.
  2. Thanks, Nashusker! The anti-Christian political rhetoric is extremely divisive, usually based on less-than-half truths, and demands conformity. There will be a lot of science in this center and the visitors will walk away with a greater respect for this amazing world we live in and, hopefullly, some will be motivated to start a career in the STEM professions. This center is a positive for Middle Tennessee.
  3. I've paid my restaurant tab using Toast several times in Nashville recently. It will be nice to know I'm supporting the local economy!
  4. This email came from Tom Turner, President of Nashville Downtown Partnership, on June 24. Dear Downtown Stakeholder: Last night, the Metro Transportation Licensing Commission (TLC) finalized the long-awaited rules and regulations for the legal operation of Entertainment Transportation Vehicles (ETVs). This is a huge win for Nashville, and for all downtown stakeholders, as our neighborhood’s quality of life has suffered from their unregulated operation. What’s Next? ETV operators have submitted applications to operate with a valid permit. The commission will determine whether they meet all regulation standards. If an application meets all standards (see below), the commission will determine if their operation is needed to meet a public need/convenience before granting a permit. When? The TLC is expected to hold a special meeting next Wednesday to finalize the consideration of all applications and to issue permits. Key Details Legal Operation of ETVs will now require: - All ETVs to be enclosed (sightseeing tours have an exception) - Rush Hour operation (4-6 pm) is prohibited - Insurance policy with $1 million minimum - Credentialed drivers and other measures - Safety features such as railings - Permit from the Metro Beer Board to serve or allow consumption of alcohol; passengers must be 21+ if alcohol is present - Compliance with existing Metro noise ordinance We want to be sure you are fully informed of this progression, as it impacts all of us who share downtown on a regular basis. I thank you all for your civic engagement along the many steps it has taken to get here. Our team is happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Tom Thomas D. Turner President & CEO Nashville Downtown Partnership
  5. You have greatly summed this up. I live in The Gulch and love the vibrancy and fun of the tourists in our neighborhood. Items 1-3 could be addressed by adding a Business Improvement District to Lower Broadway. The Gulch Business Improvement District pays for a daily cleaning crew, extra trash pickups several times a week, and 'ambassadors' that walk and segway around to address the homeless and add security to the streets late at night.
  6. Ditto! How many wonderful hours have I spent walking through this forum? How many times have I shared with others the information I picked up here? How many times has my wife called my name over and over again as I cruised these pages? How many hours of work have I missed because someone moved an old thread to the top of the list? Many, many thanks to all of you!
  7. Cow Patty's will be located in another part of town which will now be known as Cow Pie Town.
  8. I found a link to an article at nps.gov but it's not there now. There is probably a few posts somewhere on this forum about these boats that were made in Nashville early in WW2.
  9. In addition to the truckers (activity suggests recession is here) and the sanguine Brinker, we can add Elon Musk (said recession will last 12-18 months) and some VC firms (my SIL shared a YouTube video released last week where a VC firm is telling startups how to survive a recession). Several people in-the-know (including Bernanke) have suggested the Fed has already miscalculated and waited too long to start raising rates. BTW, to fight inflation, the Fed has to get the short term Fed Funds rate above the inflation rate. That is a significant increase from the 1% (top of range) rate today. When short term rates go to 9% or 10%, mortgage rates could easily double from where they are today. I'm wondering if some developers have enough of their own money that they will be less impacted by the higher lending rates.
  10. Time to dust off this thread. US GDP in Q1 2022 contracted. If we get two consecutive quarters of negative growth (don't you love that phrase?!), we will officially be in a recession. However, I can tell you that we are already there. Trucking activity tracks almost exactly with realtime GDP and the demand for trucking has dropped significantly. Here is an explanation of spot rates versus contract rates: https://www.freightwaves.com/news/what-is-the-difference-between-trucking-contract-and-spot-rates Shipping volumes are dropping: https://www.freightwaves.com/news/cass-the-freight-cycle-has-downshifted-with-a-thud Spot rates are dropping fast during the early summer when they would normally be peaking: https://www.freightwaves.com/news/truckload-van-spot-rates-are-falling-even-faster Earlier in May, the spot rate including fuel dropped below the contract rate without fuel. Many companies are renegotiating their trucking contracts in a downward direction. So, how will Nashville fare during this recession? Have we seen any drop in development activity?
  11. Check out Wikipedia's Article Of The Day today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Nashville_Sounds
  12. Doesn't Tony G. own Premier? If so, this would give him more money to build... Paramount!!!!
  13. I've spoken with several homeless people who say that the Rescue Mission is not a good place. While researching this type of attitude, I found an article written by someone at the Nashville Rescue Mission explaining why some homeless say this. There are two main reasons. First, there are many homeless who are stubbornly independent and do not want anyone to put boundaries on them. So they will badmouth the Mission because boundaries are put on them there. Second, anyone who is addicted to alcohol and drugs won't get themselves in a place where they can't get their drug of choice, so they won't go to the Mission. It makes sense that I can't trust the stories told by the obviously drunk homeless man who approached me to ask for money at 6:30 AM on a Tuesday.

  15. After initial drilling for four weeks, the blankets were delivered last week and blasting began on Tuesday. With Harlowe next door, they probably are doing smaller blasts. No rock has been hauled off yet but that could start next week.
  16. @titanhog, I'm so sorry to hear that this happened to your parents, you and your family. May you all know comfort, peace and joy today and in the months ahead. Settling estates is never easy and especially so when both spouses pass so closely together. You are in my prayers.
  17. I found this website giving information about these ships. Unfortunately, it looks like all of these have been "disposed of." http://www.navsource.org/archives/12/01idx.htm With the exception of the mothballed PC-1590 (ex-Constant, AM-86), which was recommissioned in May 1950 as a Naval Reserve training craft and served in that capacity until October 1954, the survivors were decommissioned quickly postwar and disposed of.
