  1. Well, it has to start somewhere, NYC does not start from 50 plus story tower on day 1. I see 5 story retails/condos will enhance the neighbourhood and will increase density. Isnt it the point of being close to the center? Isnt this entire street zoned for 50 ft height (not sure)?
  2. Charlotte has mixed of restaurants downtown and I think it is great. I seldom eat at downtown because it is over price for little or no service for the price they charged (besides they are mostly tacos and beer for a quick meal). I don't mind paying 50 to 60 per meal but for me dining is an experience. If I have to sit in sticky table with dirty floor and music blasting at the back ground and eat on paper plate, I will pass. I don't even go to food truck because the price they charged are outrages. World of Beer constantly smell horrible and the patio floor is disgusting. Orlando constantly ranked high on food scene is because the fancy restaurants in Dr Phillips & Disney. I just want to be able to enjoy that downtown, which is supposed to be the centre of everything Orlando. For example, the food truck park that just recently opened by Colonial has a pho truck. They were charging 10 dollars for a bowl of noodle soup. You have to wait at the truck for them to cook it like a Mc Donald style. So I just walked right back out and go across the street, paid 8 to 9 bucks for pho with service. As for the Yard, I agree, it should be bigger. If the entire Virginia Dr can be lined with 3 to 5 stories retails with condo above, it will look great. Is there any chance that they can just close the street from traffic permenantly? In other cities, the have a program which they would close down the street on certain day of the year...Virginia drive is perfect for that.
  3. I wish we have a restaurant row in downtown. Dr Phillips is a long hike. Get it together, Thomas Chapman...
  4. Hopefully..the beer and tacos will move out and some higher end establishments will come in to create Park Ave II... *******dodge******
  5. Downtown's proposed $140M tower moves forward https://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/news/2018/11/26/downtowns-proposed-140m-tower-moves-forward.html The project's location at North Orange Avenue and East Livingston Street — along with Golden Sparrow, a trio of proposed nearby apartment towers, and the Bank of America building — could become the "architectural center of downtown Orlando," according to city documents. "The four intersection corners would be filled with two generations of Orlando high-rises that could become the peak of the downtown Orlando skyline," per the documents. But then they approved the 10 stories mess next to Bank of A at this architecture centre. ??!?!?!?!?!?
  6. A taco is a taco...there are only so many ways u can mix it up.
  7. I think FAA still has to bless this, per the article.
  8. It doesnt have to be the next Shanghai Tower or the Burj tower, but to be the tallest and representing a city, I am expecting a Frost Bank tower, US bank tower or RSA tower, instead of a boxy generic every city basic design. Cant believe they are excited for some off set balcony. Even the current Suntrust building has better distinctive and recognizable feature than that. Orlando deserves something better.
  9. City staff, board wowed by new design for Zoi House skyscraper in downtown Orlando https://www.growthspotter.com/news/downtown-orlando-developments/gs-arb-meeting-20181115-story.html#nt=oft03a-1la1 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hmmm...I am thinking they have low standard or doesnt travel alot out of USA.
  10. Basic. Can the ARB recommend them to give Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid or Calatrava a call? Are the red mark means they are making this building to have curve exterior instead of rectangular block??
  11. hmmm...it has to start somewhere....once they build a few more in the neighbourhood then it will look even better.
  12. kind of off topic but there are people think that Orlando is on the ocean and they think that they come to Orlando to go on a cruise. A friend of mine in the hotel industry told me some guests insist that they came to Orlando to go on a cruise and when he told they have a bus that take them to Port Canaveral, they said they dont want to to go there.
  13. It is odd to me to spend 9 million to build a bridge to cross one intersection to begin with. I just hate to see wasted opportunity to create something unique. This along with not building dedicated bike lane at Creative Village for long range plan when you building it from scratch or putting loading zone between the lake and the store when you can have a lakefront facing store amazed me.
  14. Well the bridge is mean for recreation and some sort of icon to the city, they can at least put some money and design into it especially it is such a short span. What is a million dollar more to a couple billions highway bill? Now it is going to become a backdrop of people political statement, even worse when they put pop can to spell words, both democrats and republicans. This is my fav part of the Highline...it is a "place making" design.
  15. oh we always call it Lake Nono among our friends because it is a no man land, too far from anything and a giant sprawl.
  16. So Crystal City and NY got it. Anyway, when I lived in Arlington, Crystal City was just a commuter town with suburban sprawl. Now an urban approach to make it walkable has paid off. Yet we are still building suburban sprawl city like it is a trend ...ahem Lake Nono.
  17. Those cage design is so dated already. Imagine if they but cages all along NYC High Line.
  18. People in College Park does not want basic people close to their house.
