  1. College of Charleston plans large construction project CofC has been needing this for a long time, hopefully this flies through review and gets approved. I would like to see even more on campus housing than this but this is a great start.

  4. Lowcountry's million-dollar homes not all beachfront mansions Just goes to show, someone posted poverty figures the other day that showed Charleston with the highest percentage of people living in poverty(which did not surprise me) of the 3 main metros(not by much but it was still the most.)
  5. FreedomRoads, Nation's Largest RV Retailer, Acquires Camping Time RV; Georgia's Most Successful Dealership Joins High Powered FreedomRoads Team RV dealership looking to expand into the Charleston market, they already have dealerships in Columbia, Myrtle Beach and Spartanburg.
  6. Conde Nast Traveler Announces 2005 Honors 2005 Readers' Choice Awards: Top U.S. cities in the U.S. were San Francisco, Santa Fe and Charleston, SC We already knew that though didn't we?
  7. Timetable for the Magnolia development; development plan by 3Q 2006, infrastructure improvements and realignments during 2007 and construction in early 2008. Hopefully everything goes smoothly, I am anxious to see what's in store for this area.
  8. MUSC heart transplant survival near tops in nation A worthy mention, MUSC is really doing well. I hope things like this will help it establish itself as a premier research hospital. More federal funding is more than welcome.
  9. I like that idea a good bit, it would increase capacity while at the same time eliminate some future truck traffic on the only interstate serving Charleston. Not to mention it could create jobs for the area.
  10. Holder Properties planning to build 100,000-square-foot office facility Looks like a developer decided to act on the lack of office space. This building has no tenants lined up. Hopefully everything works out for them. They are pricing it at 24.50 a square foot. The building will be 4 stories fronting Interstate 526. Interesting note: this is the same developer that built the Meridian building in Columbia. This will be their first property in Charleston.
  11. That is an extension to the proposed light rail from the Charleston visitor center to the magnolia development in the neck area(I believe they already have the right of way for this portion.) One would go out to Summerville parallel to I-26(I think,) the other would follow Rivers ave to Moncks Corner. I have no idea where all the stops are planned.
  12. CHIEF GREENBERG RETIRES Hate to see him go, he has made Charleston a much safer place to live.
  13. Same thing happened here in Charleston with Independence Air prices here have come down to a respectable level.
  14. Mt. Pleasant police will be using Segways to patrol new Cooper River Bridge pedestrian lane.
  15. Eight story mixed use structure being planned; Interesting new development plan for Marion Square mall. From what I gather some people dont like the thought of buildings over 3 or 4 floors in this area of downtown. I was speaking to someone the other day about this development and the 8 story hotel going up on the other side of Marion Square where the old county library was and they were shocked and didnt think it was a good idea to build that tall in this part of downtown. These developments are great news to me, they will add to the well established urban fabric of downtown. I have a feeling these condos will sell very fast and hopefully that will spur even more development of this kind. Change sought for King, Calhoun corner
  16. Nice photos, just wanted to say I really enjoy these threads(photo of the day type.)
  17. Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about Charleston's role in the shipping business. I caught a few articles not to long ago about Charlestons port efficiency in asian trade publications. The fact that Evergreen SE headquarters is located in Charleston is an indication to the ports strength and appeal. We definitely need port expansion though to stay competitive for future business.
  18. Kiawah Island, SC gets PGA Championship for 2012. This should give a nice boost to the Charleston economy when this comes around. Ocean Course to host PGA Championship Kiawah Island's Ocean Course awarded 2012 PGA Championship
  19. "I think we all envision a dense, urban development" Single-family homes are not part of the plan. "This is not suburbia" "I see this as a sprawl buster" I love the quotes about this project. Can't wait to get some more information on this.. Phase I planning is suppose to be complete by December.
  20. Thanks for posting these tidbits I enjoy reading about the different projects every now and then. I believe you can post excerpts from the article not 100% sure about that though.
  21. A large portion of Charleston's hispanic population lives around Ashley Phosphate Rd in N. Charleston.
