  2. Actually it's the only one in either of the Carolinas. Interesting note on the money thing, I read a market research article that stated on average tourists to Charleston spend about 3 times as long and 5 to 7 times as much money as visitors stopping by our neighbor Savannah.
  3. Looks inviting. Nice shot, I enjoy walking around there and relaxing in warmer weather.
  4. A friend of his takes them, he takes tons of photos for the Air Force so I'm sure he has nice gear.
  5. Brother sent me this one. Those are the military planes that Charleston AFB is home to.
  6. I'm not much of a shutterbug but I'll try to get some shots to post every now and then.
  7. Proximity to large amounts of water and abundant power were one of the requirements for the project.
  8. Post & Courier reported it in todays newspaper, link to article in quote. This is project Y that Berkeley County has been talking about. Very intriguing I hope everything works out and they do set up shop there.
  9. Some exciting news in the P&C about a tech company possibly locating to a business park in Goose Creek. I'll post a bit on it later when the article is on their website if no one else has. --- Googling the Lowcountry Very intriguing I hope everything works out and they do set up shop there.
  10. That's a quote from the P&C.
  11. According to the P&C IMAX will not be closing. They are remodeling the place through January and will operate on a scaled back schedule for that month.
  12. I've had a feeling for awhile that they weren't going to make it. From what I understand a lot of their locations are not doing very well. Hopefully they will not pull out though.
  13. We had snow the other day... I think it's the earliest it has ever snowed in Charleston. Video proof from youtube!
  14. I like the new site! Especially this sketch; http://www.magnoliadevelopment.net/
  15. Oh I agree with you, more needs to be done with regards to improving our current consumption habits. And you are right about this current administrations actions towards the environment by continually cutting environmental and energy efficiency programs which would benefit us in the near term. I was just pointing out that funding overall has increased in R&D in key areas for long term prospects. Keeping politics out of discussions of the budget are almost impossible. Looking over the budget one can see that this current administration is definitely in bed with big business. But at the same time it's not like research is being totally shut down. Personally I would increase our R&D spending 10-fold in all sciences.
  16. From what I understand and what I've been told by family and friends involved in research the funding for 07 will actually increase in the areas of nuclear, coal, wind, solar, and hydrogen power. The only cut in sciences in the budget I am aware of is in biological and environmental sciences of about 80 million dollars. The rest is all increases and realignments. -- Also the 2020 figure is for mass production (all speculation of course.)
  17. There is a ton of research going on with regards to fuel cells. Many different ideas are being put to the test. Bush has allocated over $600 million for fuel cell research through the Hydrogen Fuel Initiative in the past 3 years which is awesome. Companies are not taking the risks(big oil/future profitability) by investing in this research so right now it is being done mainly by academics which need that government funding. Estimates put competitive/sustainable fuel cell use entering the market around 2010.
  18. That was a good location for that Lowe's there are about 23,000 homes planned just up the road from there.
  19. The Average price of a home on Sullivans Island in '05 was over 1 million. While these areas do distort prices for Charleston, home prices in Summerville and Goose Creek are only around 10,000-30,000 more expensive than comparable ones in Columbia or Greenville. The high value homes make it seem as if they were 60,000 more which isn't the case.
  20. Yeah the traffic they add is ok but anyone else besides themselves and their families is just too much..
  21. RTMA(Rural Transportation Management Association) got a nice boost from the half-cent sales tax and will be providing expanded service in the rural parts of the Charleston metro.
  22. I read this article this morning and just shook my head, the developer should go ahead with the 3 luxury units in the same building and make a killing off of this(he doesn't need approval for the 3 units.)
