  1. What is the likelihood of North Hills on North Main's redevelopment including grocery retail? Supermarket BI-LO #5012 previously operated at the location until its closing in 2012.
  2. I find the site plan in the Planning Staff Report to Greenville Planning Commission interesting. Where Sam's Club was appears to be a proposed supermarket with a pharmacy drive thru. The proposed supermarket is similar to proposed Publix supermarkets I have seen in other site plans.
  3. Verdae Commons, announced in February 2017, is a mixed use residential and retail development on the former Sam's Club (2519 Laurens Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29607-3815), Goody's, and Best Buy (2631 Laurens Road, Greenville, South Caorlina 29607-3817) sites on Laurens Road in the City of Greenville in Greenville County, South Carolina. It is part of Verdae. A new road, Verdae Commons Drive, was constructed and opened from the intersection of Laurens Road and Henderson Drive to a connection with Velo Verdae. Having viewed the master plan, I have noticed a proposed grocery store with a pharmacy drive thru between Verdae Commons Drive and Market Place Drive. I have not followed updates on Verdae Commons beyond the grading for Verdae Commons Drive. Further reading "Major Verdae subdivision will add to Laurens Road corridor development." Upstate Business Journal. 10 February 2017.
  4. Westgate Mall needs redevelopment. The mall has vacancies and not-so-interesting specialty shops to turn away interest.
  5. I like the idea for Milliken Village. It would compliment University of South Carolina Upstate.
  6. Southeastern Grocers (BI-LO, Fresco y Más, Harvey's, and Winn-Dixie) is an endangered supermarket conglomerate in its last days. Twenty-seven stores have closed or will be closing this year. More stores will close as needed or as leases expire. Associates are concerned about their futures.
  7. I am looking forward to Woodside Mill being redeveloped for residences. If the Woodside Avenue/Smythe Street corridor can be cleaned up from blight, the area can become positive again.
  8. As Hub City Co-op closed last year, what recommendations can be made for solving a grocery desert downtown?
  9. Kmart Pharmacy #4016 has closed. Kmart #4016 is in sell down mode. It should close sometime in November. BI-LO #5016 is not a performing store. It has lost business for several years as customers trade in Powdersville or White Horse Road. Business decreased more after Harris Teeter #420 opened at Lewis Plaza on Augusta Street in 2018. A remodel keeps a store looking nice, but does not guarantee it will stay open. Several remodeled BI-LO stores have closed.
