City planning. Wireless zoning consulting. Formerly working for a cell tower company in an office park (ick) on 28th Street (ick). Previous stops on the CV of life include: city of Detroit planning & development (special land use applications, wireless tower approval committee), city of GR (temp job writing the bicycle plan), a small township in St Clair County. Undergrad degree in urban planning and a few semesters of grad-level courses in urban & regional planning.

  1. Thanks for keeping us updated. Can't wait to hear from A/P visitors when they see it.
  2. I'm thrilled to see some of the ideas proposed in golscorer's thesis project. Also the pedestrian bridge over Monroe. Wish I could find the photo showing the icy cascade off the curved facade element and the subsequent barricades and hazard tape; adding a bridge could take care of that issue too.
  3. I don't understand why comments like these have so many detractors on this forum. Seriously, I enjoy reading x99's screeds. Pithy, clever, lotsa adjectives, minimal use of "awesome!" and "awesomely awesome!!" Plus I learn new architectural terms and exactly why x doesn't like something, along with how it could be improved.
  4. In other news, this building has a BP displayed, with work going on inside.
  5. Speaking of Alpine...for about a month, all of the employees were attired in natty white polo shirts (and I think the same khaki pants). Talked to a couple of the cashiers and stockers, said that won't last. Et voila! they are back in navy blue polos. I am guessing that the whites started looking grubby immediately.
  6. Per a FB posting, it was a pop-up transit station, created in chalk and cones and posters. Everything should be back to "normal" now.
  7. The express "12 items" self-checkouts work much better than the unlimited ones. The scanner registers an item immediately, and the scale (where the bags sit) detects said item being placed. The other lane has an electric eye to detect the item on the belt, and that is much slower. If your selections include many identical items (stocking up on cat food), the scanner-belt-computer can't keep up. It's possible to place something on the belt that hasn't been scanned since it doesn't detect weight. Also, items can get backed up in the bagging chute area, which slows the whole process.
  8. A blast from the past, in which the overpass/ped xing is discussed. And my photoshopped crossing
  9. So that explains this! https://watapama.wordpress.com/2016/02/27/mr-murray-of-meijers-friend-or-foe-to-democracy-in-michigan/ https://watapama.wordpress.com/2016/03/01/meijer-poised-to-potentially-reap-millions-if-hb-5232-approved/
  10. I like the miscreant wrong-way parkers on Fountain.
  11. Here's the Goodwill plaza site plan placed into an aerial for further reference.

Sounds like someone else spent the opening day of Where to Invade Next in the theater. Good film.
  13. They need to engineer in their access management (connected parking lots) while construction continues; that theoretical drive behind "D" would help traffic flow. ETA: Here is an aerial with the Goodwill center parcel
  14. Probably because it's in the Grand Rapids heading. I'm reading your comments, but am skeptical of widespread interest in (for instance) a metro Detroit location changing up its signage palette.
  15. When I was in driver's ed, it was 25 cents a gallon.
