  1. Why doesn't paypal just set up shop instead in York or Lancaster counties? They would still be able to pull talent from Charlotte they were trying to attract in the first place. Added bonus of NC jobs leaving for SC but still in the metro. Win-win for everyone ( at least for CLT )
  2. I feel sugar creek gets overlooked, but I enjoy their white ale (good crisp taste) and their dubbel/porters are solid.
  3. Where is that old chum...what was his name, oh yea, Jerry Reese?
  4. Knew about this from a friend of a friend... Heard Location was a lot cheaper here than other parts of NoDa and, as mentioned above, has great potential. Know for a fact there will be some sweet arcade games....cruising USA, NBA jam to name a few.
  5. I may have stumbled on another future Publix location: Current rezoning up for the Highland Creek/Prosperity area near the future Prosperity Church relocation and 485 and across the street from Highland Creek Teeter. Residential component is also included (275 units). http://charmeck.org/city/charlotte/planning/Rezoning/RezoningPetitions/2013Petitions/Pages/2013-094.aspx Petitioner is Halvorsen Development Corporation which is currently developing the Publix in Cornelius. Another hint is that Publix is notorious for doing diagonal parking at their grocery stores.
  6. Just a few updates: Academy Sports is close to opening at the corner of Concord Mills BLVD and Derita Carolina Ale House is coming soon to that intersection as well. There are a ton of apartments being built additionally to the Bexley Village community.
  7. Did we discuss the Publix that is planned for Cornelius? I just found out about it today while eating with some friends in Davidson. Here is the link: http://corneliustoday.com/index.php/97-featuredarticles/542-publix-will-build-at-magnolia-plaza-according-to-bv-belk That makes three in NC. Ballantyne, South End and Cornelius.
  8. For that to be such a busy intersection, it's so underused. Two gas stations and two vacant pieces of land. I was really hoping bofa's plans were coming to fruition.
  9. Ballantyne and/or Huntersville?...that would be my guesses.
  10. I would love to be in Publix's Charlotte division and see what parts of the city they are actively looking at. And you'd think Huntersville would be a no brainer for Whole Foods.
  11. The new Tanger for Charlotte will employ 300 workers during construction and around 900 full and part time positions once the center is open. That's a pretty good amount of jobs. http://www.heraldonline.com/2012/10/17/4344883/tanger-outlets-announces-plans.html
  12. Looks as if Charlotte School of Law is officially moving it's law school uptown by August of 2013. They will be leasing 10 floors of the Charlotte Plaza building. While this is good in the sense of lowering vacancy rates uptown, will this negatively impact the area around the current location off Wilkinson? http://www.charlotte...law-moving.html
  13. Anyone else happen to cacth this. Ashley Park is now being dubbed Sharon Square and the plan is now for 239 apartment units in one five story building and one three story building. Article also goes on the mentions 22,000 square feet of retail. http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/print-edition/2012/09/28/pappas-expands-sharon-square.html
  14. I have been wondering for the longest time what was going to be built over there. I too hope that some other retail moves into these soon to be vacant spaces, compare foods anyone?
  15. Just wanted to mention that the Hounds finished up their season on Saturday night to a crowd of just over 6,000 (the fiance and I being two of that number). For the season, the Hounds averaged 5,700 over 7 games, which was good for 4th overall in the league. I'd say it was a very successful inaugural season for the team (the Ohio franchise, which also entered the league this year with Charlotte, averaged just 3,500). http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/attendance.html?leagueid=323&seasonid=8519
  16. Charlotte Restaurant Traffic is reporting that H&M is on it's way to Southpark (the article mentions Northlake as well). Does anyone have any other confirmation about this? There was no timetable reported, just that they are coming. I hope that this is actually happening and not just another teaser. http://charlotterestauranttraffic.com/news/hm-heading-to-charlotte/#.UCPU0U1mS1w
  17. There's a good article in today's O about S&D Coffee and it's aspirations of becoming a billion dollar company. Article also mentions they are looking at building a 200,000 sf plant, that could employ 200 people, hopefully in Cabarrus County. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/08/01/3420161/sd-coffee-brims-with-growth-expansion.html
  18. Ah, thank you. I wasn't sure what was going on until I looked at the Development map and put two and two together. It looks like it will be a good size development.
  19. I drove down 7th/Monroe the other day and noticed demolition/land clearing in and around the area where JBL Partners is planning apartments. Does anyone know if this project is up and running?
  20. It has been awhile since I have been down that far. I agree with you that it doesn't make much sense to repave that section of tryon, only to tear it up when the Blue Line comes through. On a side note, I think they should just repave all of tryon, that road looks like a quilt of temporary pot-hole repairs.
  21. The section I know they are paving is North of Mallard Creek Church. The Blue Line would turn off well before and enter UNCC.
  22. I'll save the city/county/CCP money and do any one of these jobs for $100,000.
  23. So a Popeye's has made it's way into the metro. My hope is that White Castle is next. http://obswhatsinstore.blogspot.com/2012/07/two-new-shoe-stores-heading-to-concord.html "Concord Mills also noted that it recently added Hisso Sushi and Popeyes to the food court." 24. The state is just toying with my emotions now. I will be so happy when the funding is in place and construction is underway.
  25. Here is a quick rundown of the economic development in Charlotte for the past month: Time Warner Cable- hiring 100 in its Ballantyne office. Quicken Mortgage-hiring 75. Quicken Loans-hiring 50. United Technologies-hiring 325 over 5 years and creating a HQ for its aerospace systems business. Perinatal Comfort Care-moving HQ here from SC. Vermop (which is a German janitorial company) is putting its US HQ here. MSC Industrial-hiring 400 by end of 2017 and putting a co-HQ
