  1. Good question. It may be that I am keying on the high vis delays like the demolition of the old lodge for Lake Palmer, the demolition of the historic home at the Buddy Killen Roudabout for the Virgin Hotel, and the demolition of the historic buildings in the Gulch for the W. At least the Virgin and the W eventually progressed. And although WES never happened, we eventually got Broadwest. I agree that the opposition on the development at McGavock and Riverside was misguided and overwrought, but now they appear vindicated.
  2. So, in the face of considerable neighborhood pushback, the developer tore down single story retail to build 4-story residential, let the the site sit vacant for 18 months, and are now want to build . . . single story retail. And people wonder why Nashvillians sometimes grow weary of developers.
  3. On a side note, ever since the warehouse across Greenwood from the new Publix was built demolished, the rat population in our part of the neighborhood east of there has gone way up.
  4. It will make the expansion of that part of the interstate impossible? Hell, that's enough to justify the development all on its own.
  5. I think another no-brainer spot ripe for a big project is the giant pay lot behind Woodland Wine Merchant, upper left of the photo just above.
  6. I'm going to say called it! This is the lot I was saying a few weeks ago seemed overripe for a big project. Any other lots folks want to see developed? I'll comment on them too. ; )
  7. I was inside BNA last night for the first time in a long time. I know it is still deep in construction and I assume that it is more attractive once you pass through security and get to the gates, but the ticketing and baggage areas are as bland as one could imagine. Whatever charm or amenities the public part of the airport had are now gone. The baggage area is bigger, which should be good, but it still took over 40 minutes for the bags to come out for the people I was picking up.
  8. There was a bid awarded back in April for life safety system upgrades. This was for a project on the 2018 construction list. May have some connection. Front End Checklist (tn.gov) DesRecSel_Sept2018.pdf (tn.gov)
  9. Just to make sure I'm not confused by the new title; does this thread still contain the rest of East Nashville, or just Inglewood and those parts to the far east?
  10. You are right. Should have said 2011. Weird typo on my part. Sorry about that. Here is the shot from August 2007.
  11. I assumed they were the owners, but I just find it curious that they or no one else have proposed a big project for that site. Seems ripe.
  12. I'm curious, has anyone heard anything about this big parking lot on Main, across the street from the Hot Yoga and the Fieldhouse Jones Hotel? Between Weiss Liquors and the storage building that also houses Yeast Nashville. Kind of shocking to me that no one has marked it for development. Clip from smeagolsfree's stellar development map.
  13. For comparison, here's the Google Maps street view of the intersection of Rosa Parks and Demonbreun from 2007.
  14. Interesting comment about the need for a water taxi. Am I remembering right that Opryland tried that once but discontinued it because of river bank erosion or some such?
  15. Framing is well under way on the townhouses behind the former church at Eastwood Village. Looking SE from vicinity Chapel and Roberts. Looking S from vicinity Chapel and Roberts.
  16. I think two things have helped make this tower more attractive: the paint job a few years back and having other towers built near it so that it doesn't look so isolated.
  17. I'm not saying avoid, I'm saying ensure there are proper checks and balances in place. Great cities also don't wonder blindly forward. When are they breaking ground on its sister building, The Bear?
  18. The Fond Object site's design will be something complying with existing zoning since there was such a public outcry over the (better) design that would have required an exception. I don't necessarily disagree with the idea of a city architect, but one problem with giving any one appointed official too much influence is the danger of getting a bad one, a Robert Moses if you will.
  19. I'm curious which projects that comply with existing zoning and overlays, developed by professionals with extensive public input, have been prevented?
  20. I remember reading something here about what was going in at Maxwell and Gallatin where they demoed the old bank building, but now I can't find the post. Friendly reminder?
  21. Excellent timing on this story (and your post), Mark. I just walked by the site yesterday and wondered what was going there.
  22. I noticed this morning that someone is demoing the old building at Gallatin and Greenwood that was once a Krispy Kreme. Across from the new Publix. Anyone know what is happening at the site? I remember Chad Grout working to broker a sale of it at one point.
