  1. The city announced today in collaboration with Chesterfield, Hanover, and Henrico counties a study with 3 firms on what to do with the Richmond Coliseum. Renovate or replace? I think the coliseum should be replaced and moved to the city owned Boulevard Gateway Property. This way a entertainment complex can be built around it with the Diamond! The current location of the coliseum is essentially in a business park with a convention center next to it with no foot traffic after 6! They could turn over the property to the bio-technology park to expand! The regions Fortune 500 companies are paying for the study! Many of the executives from those companies in the past have been hawking the city for a replacement! So we basically know that a new coliseum will be built but what will be the size, where is the money coming from, and where will it be built is the question. http://ht.ly/1VqUk
  2. Honestly I appreciate history to the fullest! Im a former Richmonder (as I grew up there) actually in Bon Air if you want to be technical. I bring friends there all the time that are in aww of the history that surrounds them. Richmond is one of the few places that intertwines history and modernism in the country. The only other city up there on that list is Boston.
  3. This is a spectacular photo essay by Scott Elmquist and Darren Morris of Style Weekly about the Richmond Flying Squirrels inagural season in Richmond so far! http://styleweekly.com/ME2/Audiences/dirmod.asp?sid=&nm=&type=Publishing&mod=Publications%3A%3AArticle&mid=8F3A7027421841978F18BE895F87F791&tier=4&id=07199FFF4EF8409FABD9B37A9639EFD0&AudID=AE6FBAD9A9574D429566425E856C8C66&navid=01AF314735414277A1C1E18EE5F45799
  4. Will development trump history???? 'Slave History Clouds Shockoe Bottom Project' http://styleweekly.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?sid=&nm=&type=Publishing&mod=Publications%3A%3AArticle&mid=8F3A7027421841978F18BE895F87F791&tier=4&id=19C9C7217BD647E19EC76802A352389E
  5. This is a great development if that train station is approved. The only worry that I have is this may spur out of control growth in a mainly rural area! But I like how its centered around mass transit!
  6. This is a great article from the recent Virginia Buisness magazine about the productivity and population increase of the Tri-Cities Area! Jobs, Jobs, and more Jobs (primarily Fort Lee supplying most of them) The only quirk I have is about the research park! Why not have any of the local universities anchor it also?! (ie Virginia State University -VCU) http://www.virginiab...the-wow-factor/
  7. This is great news for the Commonwealth of Virginia! The only thing that I see Gov McDonnell doing right is everything he possibly can too bring jobs to Virginia. Just last week I saw a commercial about Fairfax counties business climate and why you should move your business there on CNN out here in California. What I find suprising is that Fairfax has a office out here in California trying to draw companies away from here. Its smart but many places and states across the country are not even bold enough to set up shop in other states! With SAIC, Northrup Grunman, Hilton Hotels, and other smaller companies moving to Virginia guess they better get as much as they can while the flood gates are open! The asian markets are fueling the world market today and in the future. Great move by the administration! :shades: Plus with the expansion of the Port in Hampton Roads! http://www2.timesdispatch.com/rtd/news/state_regional/state_regional_govtpolitics/article/TRAD07_20100606-221803/349533/
  8. If Hampton Roads officials got off their rockers and actually was involved in the study instead of trusting others to take care of it they would not be in this situtation of High Speed Rail passing them by! Kind of crazy they are just learning about this! Their must have been a hint! http://hamptonroads....%80%99t-pass-us
  9. This must be the Virginia Tech Research Lab announced today by the associated press! It matches the 60,000 sq ft in the article! http://www2.timesdis...-090801/349605/
  10. The National Institute of Aeronautics is adding another instituion to its list of top universities builing aerospace research facilities in Hampton. Virginia Tech plans to build a aeropace research lab on 5 acres in Hampton. 11. Here is a article from the Church Hill People News about the happenings of that night at the East End Charrette! Their are also some great pics of the proposal renderings! http://chpn.net/news/2010/06/03/end-end-transformation-looking-good-on-paper_13768/
  12. Ummm heres another one about Croslands troubles, posted today in the Charlotte Observer! When will it end! Why isnt the Richmond Times Dispatch all over this? http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/06/02/1472605/developer-crosland-at-a-crossroads.html
  13. The East End Charrette kicks off today at the Family Resource Center 2405 Jefferson Ave at 5! If you live along the Nine Mile Rd Corridor or care about what happens in that area then I suggest you come out and speak on what you think would revitalize a gateway to the city of Richmond! Article in Church Hill People News with NBC 12 telecast! http://chpn.net/news/2010/06/01/east-end-transformation-charrette-kicks-off-on-wednesday_13723/ Schedule of events this week http://www.eastendvision.org/news-and-events-public-schedule.html
  14. Sad thing that Bottega Bistro folded! Bottega Bistro was owned by the same family that owns the The Ruth Chris Steak House next door and the one in Virginia Beach at Towne Center! I worked there at the Ruth Chris Steak House in Midlothian when I was in high school and my first 2 years of college! Ahh Good times!
  15. Sorry but if the city only knew how much trouble they are getting themselves into! Crosland has developments halted across the country because they are unable to get financing or failed to pay construction cost. A red flag should have gone up when Crosland LLC stated to city council that the Highland park development will not start for another 2 years! Two years really! Why are you announcing it now! Do you know how many things can change in two years. Also where is the outrage about Crosland getting $12 million in stimulus money(this year) to build a parking deck for Manchester on the James. The development is 3 years behind and still their has been no construction activity! That $12 million could go to sprucing up many neighborhoods across the city! The city council should look for a developer locally that has more pride in redeveloping the public housing areas into mixed use! Than Crosland who is in it to make a quick buck and move on! Here is a article from the News & Observer of Raleigh, NC about Croslands troubles! http://www.newsobser...rylink=misearch
  16. Thanks Burt this was a great find! Also John Murden is the man! When Rocketts Landing, Echo Harbour, and the property around Main Street Sation is complete then Shockoe Bottom will be a great neighborhood to live, work and, play. Next will be Manchester!
  17. That Wall Street Journal article was a great find JB. It talks about VMFA being the most underrated art gallery in the nation even though it is one of the top ten in the nation!
  18. Here is the article On WSJ.com http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703559004575256763161159570.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_sections_lifestyle
  19. The Virginia Port Authority plans to move forward with the Commonwealth Port Fund for the Craney Island expansion. Currently contracts are being awarded for dike construction to start this fall. The VPA and the federal goverment are the financiars in a 50/50 share cost agreement! Before $1.1million was all that was awarded by the federal government. But just two weeks ago another $28.5 million was released for the port construction. This is great news for Hampton Roads and the Commonwealth of Virginia and hopefully this project has no more delays and stays on track to open in 2020! Craney Island Permits issued http://hamptonroads....-state?cid=srch Craney Island May Newsletter http://craneyisland....tionmay2010.pdf 28.5 million awarded for project http://hamptonroads....et?cid=srch#rfq The Virginia Port Authority (VPA) plans to move forward with a Commonwealth Port Fund bond to initiate Craney Island Eastward Expansion construction. 24. Wow this is great news! Its been forever since I last heard about this project. A while back i thought that had abandoned the proposal! It looks a lot different than was originally invisioned but at least it is being built. IMO the spire should be taller so the drivers on I-95 can see it! It would be a great welcome mat to Downtown Richmond!
  25. After not heeling too cries from the historical community last year that they might be paving a parking lot over a slave burial ground in Shockoe Bottom. VCU now has conceded and is letting archeologist in to excavate! http://www.styleweek...BC593CEABC3F45F
