  1. "The YMCA of Greater Richmond wants to set up shop in western Chesterfield County. A proposal to locate a new branch on 22 vacant acres at the intersection of Hampton Park Drive and Otterdale Road near Hull Street Road will be before the Chesterfield Planning Commission tonight. The new branch, at the entrance to the 750-home Hampton Park subdivision, would expand the Greater Richmond YMCA's footprint westward into the fastest-growing part of Chesterfield, where thousands of homes are approved but not yet built." http://www2.timesdis...ca20-ar-319810/ Wow! 25 miles outside the city. Has anyone noticed that the metro population is at 1.25 million! We are gobbling up land at a unsustainable pace. Especially if these homes are built all the way out to the Amelia County line in 5-10 years!
  2. This is a great article about Richmond written by Stephen Koff from Cleveland.com (Cleveland Plain Dealer). Stephen Koff talks about the many other things to do in Richmond except visiting Civil War sites. http://www.cleveland...arm_with_a.html
  3. The only thing about Virginia now is their are still no shovel ready projects! Do Virginia officials expect to get money from the federal government and they have us sit on it for the next 5 years. More than likely if we do not use that money it will funneled to another high speed rail project in another state. Is their anyway to fast track these projects to shovel ready?

  16. 'Virginia ends budget year with $220 million surplus' Sorry to burst Gov Bob McDonnell and the Republicans hailing this but this was Gov Kaines budget which started last year in June and ended this year! The budget for this fiscal year was passed last year! How does Gov McDonnell have anything to do with it! He wasnt even in office until this year.

  22. Hey Burt, Theirs actually three bridges one at Tredgar Iron Works, one at 7th street, and one at Haxall Point connecting to Riverside on the James. Then 2 others connecting to Riverside on the James! The need to spend money on another one is puzzling me! I also dont know where they are launching the segways from?
  23. Hopefully you guys dont have a money pit! I for one want light rail to suceed in Hampton Roads. If this fails then light rail will never be expanded in Hampton Roads for at least another 25 years. I guess somebody was not doing their job when surveying the soil. If you guys have settling now without the trains rolling over the tracks then you might be in for a rude awakening later down the road!
  24. 'Task force looks to revitalize downtown Richmond' Haven't we already taken this route with the Downtown Master Plan that was released last year July 9, 2009! Also how many active studies are currently going on? Well we have the Coliseum, Main St Staion(Still), BRT, Jackson Ward, Boulevard Gateway, Downtown plan(again), East End, baseball stadium, the list goes on. Time to get off your butts and implement the plans you already have on the tables before starting from scratch then maybe you will get somewhere! You know what will bring more tourism downtown? A mass transit system to get poeple around! You can think of all the major tourism city destinations in the United States. What do they have a mass transit system to get tourist from one place to another (except Orlando which is currently implementing its light rail system to connect to High Speed Rail). If you are like me I try avoiding to drive at all cost when I travel to another city! Bring back the streetcars! This is a low cost option to get tourist from one destiantion to another and its cheap to implement! Richmond Times-Dispatch http://www2.timesdis...gw09-ar-286359/ Why were they on Segways? Should we be promoting downtown as a walkable community by not having to use a segway to get around! Downtown Master Plan Dover, Kohl and Partners http://doverkohl.com...&type=2&image=1
