  1. NCPA October 4, 2021 Centene Corp. will pay more than $71.2 million to settle allegations from Illinois and Arkansas that a PBM subsidiary submitted inaccurate bills and failed to disclose discounts. The company will pay more than $56 million in two installments to Illinois and $15.2 million to Arkansas. The lawsuits stemmed from allegations that Envolve, Centene's PBM subsidiary, was overpaid by state Medicaid programs. Envolve allegedly used inaccurate reimbursement requests that inflated fees, according to an announcement of the settlement. In June, Centene settled a similar suit with the state of Ohio for $88.3 million and with Mississippi for $55 million, even though Mississippi had not yet filed a suit. NCPA
  2. Yeah, I have seen that too, that may help the situation here. But many airports have more than 1 terminal so drop-off and pick-up is more spread out so somewhat less congested. It always depends on location and time of day.
  3. The new façade will be amazing when complete. The additional lanes for drop-off and pick-up help but we still have the same limited amount of curbside so the traffic is still a mess at times. So many cars all jockeying for the right hand lane that many people just stop in any lane (including far left) and black all the traffic. I only hate that the A terminal extension did not have its own pick-up drop-off as a separate terminal. Maybe someday in the future we can hope for that and have so much more curbside for drop-off and pick-up.
  4. I am hoping for something great in the former Rock Bottom space.
  5. God save the Quee.... uhm HALL HOUSE!!! Just glad to see more potential housing in uptown. Would be nice for every empty block to have residential. Imagine the retail we could support with more residents. This project, Inlivian and Publix project will go along way to help North Tryon retail thrive someday. But someone please, save the Hall House. Such a great looking building.
  6. Not even Hickory (~1 hour away) is much cooler - though 3-4 degrees can make a difference for some. I prefer the 5,500 ft. elevation of Beech Mountain (~2.5 hours away) where it is in the low - mid 70's for highs this week and mid -upper 50's at night. Rarely gets to 79 and almost never over 80. But it makes for one hell of a commute to Charlotte unfortunately.
  7. I noticed Sunday 2 things on my uptown walk. Panera Bread on College has a note on the door that they anticipate reopening sometime as early as September (though I assume that may get pushed back). This would be great considering the Ale house next door is now closed. Also, there seems to be a lot of activity in the Rock Bottom site on N Tryon. Not sure if anything is happening there but I hope something open there soon. Really need all these projects on N. Tryon to get moving and get many more residents in that area.
  8. I noticed last night that the Ale House on College street was now closed. That hurts the epicenter/uptown scene even more. I hope that large space can be put to another good (retail) use soon. The Panera Bread in the same tower lobby is still slow to reopen (or officially shutter). Also, I see the lights at the Daily on Church Street @ 6th have the lights outside back on at night now - any one know if they will reopen?
  9. I noticed last night they have now closed 2 lanes of 6th street (from the original 1 lane). Why do they need more staging room for now? I am hoping it is for the base of another sky crane.
  10. Looks great from Graham St. looking south toward BOA Stadium. Small and subtle just like the newest BOAT at Legacy. Now that is how it is done TRUIST and WE WORK!
  11. The paper boxes uptown look so bad and need to be removed. Many are mostly empty or vandalized. And then there are the retro style bus stop/shelters. They look like something from an abandoned amusement park. Also, Ivey's Hotel management (or perhaps building management) not making a good impression on the 5th Street side of the hotel.
  12. I'm sure they would love to have Medicaid expanded as they are one of the largest (if not the largest) processors for state Medicaid programs. More Medicaid means more $$$$ in their pockets. Look at this company's history in regards to suits by states AG. THEY WILL NOT BE GOING TO OHIO OR MISSISSIPPI ANYTIME SOON - 2 states that are investigating them for overcharging millions. Not sure they would be the best of corporations that we want to call CLT home - though some would love to Wells here too I guess.
  13. The lights at 400 South Tryon have been off since last fall - all through the winter they did not come on. Maybe more than just about bird migration. Just like the Catalyst where the lights on the top of the building have been off for years now. Or when then the time changes and the building management takes days to change the timers. Could be poor management or maybe not a priority or budget issues - who knows. I guess lightning can be hell on building lighting as well.
  14. NCPA March 24, 2021 Mississippi officials are investigating the companies that oversee the state’s Medicaid managed care pharmacy benefits. The investigations are focused on whether one company in particular, Centene, has overcharged taxpayers through its management of pharmacy benefits. Centene was recently sued by Ohio for similar potential wrongdoings. Mississippi lawmakers are also calling for legislative changes that would allow greater oversight and independent audits of the state’s Medicaid managed care pharmacy benefits. NCPA
  15. Hope it is ok to put this here. Prime time game tomorrow evening and many buildings uptown are not lit at "dark-time". It always amazes me every year when we "fall back" how many management companies are not prepared (just wait and see this Sunday and Monday night). But to not be prepared for prime time. Truist (maybe not yet ready) but so many others out such as 400 S. Tryon, Wells Fargo 3, Juke Box (as always) Catalyst (oh yeah, then have been dark since the DNC in 2016). Let the building managers know to be ready for live prime time shots tomorrow.
  16. There are plans in place to widen the bridge and road from what I have heard and seen in some papers.
  17. WHAT A GREAT BUILDING. I CAN'T WAIT TO VISIT IT IN PERSON.
  18. I saw the sign this morning. Does look better and larger in person.
  19. The land for the casino complex has already been cleared. Lots of earth-moving equipment on site now. The casino name has been announced as TWO KINGS CASINO RESORT to honor King Hagler (past Chief of the tribe in the late 1700's) and the Kings Mountain region. I assume the Cherokee tribe is mostly concerned about the potential for lost revenue. We have a town of CATAWBA, a CATAWBA county and a CATAWBA river in NC so somehow their heritage was recognized here before or after state lines were drawn. It appears they may have shared lands, but possibly later decided to declare territories. I don't know. I hope the state and the tribe can come to an agreement eventually. The area could really use the economic jolt!
  20. Looks like Centene is under federal investigation for double billing Ohio state medicaid for CVS Health. Searching via Google shows a troubled past for this company paying millions of fines in different states. And we (NC taxpayers) give ~$400 million in incentives to Centene.
  21. Great - will be nice to see this rise hopefully! Thanks for the info.
  22. Anyone know the status of this project? The Moxy? Stalled or pending construction start?
  23. ...as well as residents of third ward - I go in the 7/11 quite often - it is convenient and I do not need my car!
