  1. Yes! Sorry, wasn't trying to accuse you of trying to further this "rivalry." Haha
  2. I don't need their negativity. I'm fine not comparing ourselves to Richmond when we're ahead and I will still not care about them if their passenger numbers for 2023 were higher than ours
  3. I noticed PIT isn't on this map. Did they cut that route?
  4. I would love to know the scientific reasoning behind this claim... or at least get next week's lotto numbers from this person
  5. I agree! They could benefit from some more marketing
  6. More routes baby, let's go!!
  7. Just for some context, they already have a nonstop flight from RDU-CDG. Delta currently operates it. Air France is basically coming in and taking over that route. I feel like RDU has always been a bit of a dark horse with their air traffic and routes. Certainly something for ORF to shoot for
  8. Southwest has a decent amount of Caribbean destinations and with Spirit starting up at ORF soon, I'm hopeful that there will be enough demand for at least one of those carriers to start up flights down there!
  9. It has to be a demand thing. I know Virginia Beach does a lot of international marketing (I've seen some of their ads in foreign languages, which is cool), and I think having stronger international recognition as a tourist destination is a big one. The other side is ramping up business/non-tourism travel to international hub cities like Toronto. I live in Erie, PA right now and our airport is technically international and we had flights to Canada a long time ago. I don't think it will take a lot to upgrade the facilities other than make sure they can cater to a reasonably sized commercial flight. I have no idea what the facilities in gate 1 look like.
  10. I agree with you completely. I definitely do not want to start a forum war! Now, back to us just talking about ORF!
  11. I can't really comment on the logistics of the airport's readiness for international flights, but I have also lurked over there a few times and the amount of shade they throw at ORF is insane and unwarranted IMO. Interesting that we don't really compare ourselves to RIC as much...
  12. Wow I feel like that was a super short-lived stint at PHF!
  13. This is awesome news! I am intrigued by the last part. Is Breeze in talks with ORF staff to use the international gate??
  14. Not only "likely" to break ground this year, but it must break ground this year because of their timeline of bond approvals with Virginia Housing!
  15. Ugh this guy isn't even worth your time. The trolls that have infiltrated urbanplanet have way too much time on their hands. Look at this guy's comment history, he has no idea what he's talking about
  16. I get what you are saying, though in this case I think this was just one board member who didn't understand that the developer was simply following the guidance prescribed by the City. To me, it's an example of different City boards not understanding each other, not communicating, and having competing interests. But when she said, "I feel like I'm in Virginia Beach..." oh brother!
  17. Well this is sad news, but it's nice to have some insider info. *sigh*
  18. Unfortunately, it look like the A220s will be primarily based out of Tampa for the time being: https://onemileatatime.com/news/breeze-a220-routes-first-class-pricing/
  19. Ah got it. I misunderstood!
  20. I interned for Harbor Group several years ago in asset management. Yes they buy/sell properties. But like most real estate investment firms, they generally improve the buildings they acquire pretty substantially adding higher levels of finishes and amenities. Goal is to retain and improve occupancy. I am in strong agreement that I wish they would build up their downtown Norfolk portfolio
  21. I want high rises downtown as much as the next person, but the on-site replacement housing calls for affordable housing. Even with lumber price being what they are right now, it is still significantly more expensive to build steel frame buildings than it is wood frame buildings, and you can't really build higher than 5 (maybe 6) stories with wood frame. We will hopefully see taller buildings when more mixed-income and market-rate housing is proposed, but since the focus right now is on replacement housing for public housing residents, the majority of the buildings are going to be low- to midrise.
  22. First time posting here in a few years, but I had to get in on the good discussion! I would counter this argument in that in the 70s, the City was not under federal obligations they currently are under the Uniform Relocation Act, since this is a federally funded redevelopment of housing that currently received federal operating and capital subsidies. I can appreciate and understand the concerns of Tidewater Gardens residents, and I really get why they are skeptical of the City/NR&HA keeping their promises. I guess I am just a bit more hopeful (maybe naively so) that since the URA has such strict requirements on relocation and displacement, that these residents will either certainly be guaranteed housing (whether with a project-based or housing choice voucher) in the redeveloped community, or will be given a large sum equivalent to 42 or 60 months of replacement housing payments. I know that the money is no replacement for the community itself, but it's not insignificant either. I have spent the last few years working in a community development department that receives federal housing funds, so I have had to learn pretty quickly what temporary and permanent displacement entails!
