  1. Starbucks will construct a new location on the corner of Edgeworth and Market, where the old eyesore abandoned Hardee's used to be. I think this is a good use of that space and will possibly attract other corporate chains to do business downtown too (which is something Greensboro doesn't have much of).
  2. Still looking for an engine manufacturer, they may need to build it themselves. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/the-worlds-largest-jet-engine-maker-confirms-it-wont-develop-supersonic-engines-for-boom-leaving-the-startup-with-few-options/ar-AA13eGhB?li=BBnb7Kz

  4. Yes, since 2016 a street, a school, and a UNCG building have been striped of the name Aycock, who was an advocate of white supremacy and segregation. Aycock Middle school was renamed Swann, after Melvin Swann. The street was renamed after the first black student to graduate from Grimsley, Josephine Boyd, who transferred from Dudley High the year before.
  5. From what I can see, this has been renamed to "RockHouse GSO" and is being ran in the same location.
  6. v v v This v v v v v v Can still be this v v v We just have to wait and see what is still to be constructed.
  7. There will always be naysayers, doesnt matter about what.
  8. I know that they removed the tracks and put in fresh pavement down years ago on the street parts and removed the railway crossing signs and crossing levels, but did they actually dig them up on the grassy areas in the middle where they could use that extra land to optimize traffic? I didn't think so, but i could be wrong. Connecting the greenway is alright, I guess.. but that doesn't really help anyone who is shopping at those shops on Lawndale and decides they want to get a bite to eat at one of the restaurants across the way, or someone getting their phone repaired at the Verizon store and wants to check out some comic books across the street. no sidewalks, and those intersections are like frogger with no crosswalking signals.
  9. You're right, its not "sprawl," its just an area being redeveloped. I guess in this instance its more of Urbanization of an area outside of downtown. I hope Koury can sell that brick corporate building that is almost an eye sore at this point and that 7.4 acre tract of land on the adjacent corner. I do wish something would be done to increase pedestrian/bicycle traffic is many areas, most notably the Lawndale/Battleground/Westover area. They could rip out all that train track that hasn't been used in almost 2 decades because the Sears distribution center is no longer and use that extra space to reconstruct that cluster of intersections and make it more walkable, bike friendly.
  10. I know this isn't midtown, but not far off. The intersection of Pisgah Church Rd and Martinsville Rd, in between Battleground Ave and Lawndale Dr. -- There is new development construction happening. 3 residential houses were bought out and have been demolished. There are already multiple 3-5+ story buildings in this area, with 3 of them being built within the last 5 years. The opposite corner has the Winstead Commons, 5 story apartment building and 3 story building with street level retail. This area is quickly becoming suburban sprawl with midrise buildings. There are two multistory corporate buildings in this area, one can be seen on the far right of the picture, with another just to the right of that, not in the picture. The area in yellow is where the new construction is to happen soon. I read an article somewhere online that I cannot find anymore, that had information on the new construction, if anyone has info about it or can find that, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a feeling the shopping center where delicious bakery is, will be redeveloped at some point in the future. It is poorly designed and was the home to the old original The Fresh Market before they moved to the new building pictured above. If this area keeps growing at the current rate into the future, it could very well carve out its own name within the community.
  11. jumping to conclusions on unfinished construction is a disappointment.
  12. Volvo announced Global Headquarters for financial services in Greensboro. https://www.wfmynews2.com/article/news/local/volvo-announces-new-jobs-coming-to-greensboro/83-4af2255f-7576-4950-a016-783c37a7014e
  13. I really hope they do something amazing across the street from this. that old N&R building is an eye sore.
  14. As someone who lives in Summerfield, this is great! Summerfield does not have a small town feel, its very rural. So this is amazing, it will make it feel a bit more like Oak Ridge, somewhat. Edit: Now that I think about it, there really isnt anything like this in Oak Ridge either. This has to be unique in the Triad area.
  15. the areas in red probably need to be redeveloped the most, anyone have insight on what businesses or lack there of are on these plots of land?
  16. These are the types of projects that need to sprout up all across all sides of downtown. Keep em comin!
  17. Also, the way I've come to know things over the years is, Atlanta is the main hub of urban areas in the southeast when it comes to culture. Charlotte is a smaller version of Atlanta, and Greensboro is a smaller version of Charlotte. If you've ever lived in these cities like I have (yes, all 3) then you would know that Charlotte and Greensboro are just deeper culturally compared to cities like Winston-Salem and Raleigh. I'm not dissing winston and raleigh, its just how it is. Also, the Greensboro city government is not "pushing" this, like I said its a non profit organization led by a gentleman who lives on that side of town. https://myfox8.com/2020/01/17/greensboro-man-hopes-to-rebrand-part-of-city-uptown-greensboro/
  18. I think its less of that, and more of a community/area trying to make something of their "side of town." Anyone from this area know that Greensboro is pretty segregated, when it comes to which demographics live in which areas of town. South and East of the train tracks have seen far less development over the years. Most of the taxpayer investments and overall money and development has gone North and West in Greensboro. This is just this area trying to gain some notice and equality in the community as a whole. Why should they feel left out?
  19. A few weeks back i heard about this new "uptown" Greensboro group on facebook. It is led by a community resident who is from that area of town. It seems to be a non-profit focused on getting word out and also selling merchandise like t-shirts and such. Greensboro has a clearcut downtown district, also coined and signed the midtown district with help from local businesses and new development. I think it is probably way too soon for Greensboro to try and have an uptown district. I'm not sure there is a distinct area of town that could fit that bill yet. Here is a map of central Greensboro Red outline is downtown Blue outline is midtown Green outline is where uptown is being proposed What do you guys think? Not only does it have part of NE downtown in its lines, it seems either too spread thin and/or not in line with the other 2 already distinct districts. While I genuinely like the ambition, it seems like this area should be coined as it is, the A&T University area, just as the UNCG area is west of downtown.
  20. lol, over the years, we just started calling it 'Tucks'
  21. i dont see what the big fuss is about.. cityboi posts information about his city and sometimes that might include comparing it to the other cities in the area (thats only natural). It's up to someone in winston-salem to post more info/updates, if they so choose.. and if not, thats not his fault..
  22. Big news for the East side of downtown Greensboro! https://www.greensboro.com/business/local_business/massive-downtown-residential-commercial-development-in-east-greensboro-planned-by/article_87418cc0-df1b-58b1-a1b9-887b9e3ab0d5.html
  23. Now the grasshoppers just need another giancarlo stanton to come through the ranks and blast homers over the right outfield wall
  24. Sucks that the parking deck would block half of the existing skyline from the spectator seats in the stadium, but at this point, we cannot be picky for new tower development in the boro
