1. Nope, i see tit dead and buried... no way lrt is going to happen in VA beach now.
2. ugh, this is ugly suburban development in downtown. Disgusting http://hamptonroads.com/2011/02/norfolk-council-approves-controversial-midtown-office-tower
3. Wow, the silence was deafening on this and many issues. Hopefully this means more good news.
4. Macarthur used to have a White House/Black Market though.......
5. Oh get over yourself. The old library was outdated as was and would have needed to be renovated (ie add computer infrastructure, remove asbestos). Books are an invaluable source of knowledge, and this building accomplishes that plus facilitates learning. I for one am glad the Macedonians strove for excellence with the Library of Alexanderia, rather than put up with mediocrity. Investment in education and literacy is an investment. Today libraries are still being expanded, not contracted so what does that say to their relevance. I'm sick of your cynicism in everything just because your "hacker lab" is failing. It was a terrible idea. Libraries are a centuries old proven resource.

7. Taken just before the Newtown station: Actually moves pretty fast, if not for the need to have signal guards at crossings would not have been able to get it.

9. Don't think so, the FBI station and NEwtown station look done as they have been shrink wrapped. It wont be that big of a deal, this area has pretty mild weather.
10. Well high speed rail might be iffy with the incoming Republican majority in the House of Reps, but passenger rail chugs on: http://hamptonroads.com/2010/12/state-ink-passenger-rail-deal-linking-norfolk-richmond?cid=ltst

12.

That is true with the overall vision, the big question is which line would operate first. I have a sneaking suspicion it will go from military highway/airport, to the base first, as ti would hopefully increase Light rail traffic more quickly and therefore more likely to get a second line from DT though ODU than doing so in the other way.
13. http://hamptonroads.com/2010/11/first-transit-plan-meeting-tonight-newport-news#comment-1029035 Commuter rail looks like LRT with a diesel engine instead of electric: Street cars look like single car trains: High speed ferry: Bus rapid transit (hopefully not in Virginia Beach) And of course Light Rail:
14. well here is the flight: http://flightaware.c...e/flight/UJT962 also looks like Virginin is flying in from spain? http://www.edreams.com/offers/flights/airline/VS/virgin-atlantic/GRO/girona/ORF/norfolk-va/
15. The tunnel LRT concept has the most synergy for reducing traffic, at the very least Peninsula traffic could park near the tunnel and take the train to the Norfolk Naval Base, both increasing transportation capacity while reducing car traffic in the other tunnels during rush hour.
16. Indeed, though I was disappointing that Rigell beat Nye with the Shake and bake republican attack ads.
17. Yeah, varider has a habit of beating a dead horse into glue.....
18. Interesting article from the pilot that mentions the overarching goals of Virginia beach With respect to SGA's, LRT, and new urbanism (although not called it in the article) Unusually concise and unbiased approach, quite refreshing. The article does bring up a major point though and as such one feel compelled to ask, does Virginia Beach need a redevelopment board? http://hamptonroads.com/2010/09/interactive-virginia-beachs-plan-transform-city?cid=posld

20. Looks like a great idea, Va Beach is really pushing hard on this radar issue. http://hamptonroads.com/2010/09/virginia-beach-looks-buying-offshore-platform
21. If so, why not put it there in the first place instead of moving it later?
