  4. ordinarily a parking lot being built is not too exciting, but when it is a park and go for light rail it is: Newtown Road station will be on the left, park and go will be on the right side. Still have two houses and the Moose lodge to demolish, 5 houses already gone plus and old gas station/garage
  5. Well the company that owns LM has gone bankrupt......
  6. Still nothing up, called the city development office but no one picked up.....
  7. Any chance this presentation would be put online for those of us who could not attend?
  8. An Antonov 124 blew two tires landing at Norfolk the other day, But what is unsaid is that this is one of the largest aircraft in the world hauling cargo from Norfolk! http://avherald.com/h?article=4199e6b3&opt=0 Some pictures of the aircraft that I took:

  10. Might have already begun: http://hamptonroads.com/2009/05/virginia-b...office-pembroke
  11. Some things to notice: PA High School seems to be on the chopping block as well as Pembroke Mall, and the road system seems to make a large square where the old FX building used to be. If Virginia Beach is really dedicated to this plan, then the strip mall on Independence cannot happen, light rail must happen, and City View almost must be constructed. Those are the true litmus test to see whether Virginia Bbeach is dedicated to the Newurbanist ideas.
  12. Except for that pesky Water tower and post office bye the way, drove by the line today and noticed that rail and ties have been laid near Ballentine Boulevard, appears to use concrete ties ( though I imagine that is the rail standard today)
  13. To tell you the truth, I would rather that they spend the extra time and effort in orchestrating an effective construction and line plan than simply stumbling out of the starting line. Remember that this line will be much longer and more difficult than the norfolk section, perhaps they should do a phase 1 and 2 to get part of it up and running more quickly (like Newtown to Town center, and then work on extending to the oceanfront)
  14. from website caption: "Siemens produces two light rail vehicle platforms at their manufacturing facility in Sacramento: high-floor SD160 ( right), and low-floor S70 (above). Denver's fleet is SD160, models, and Norfolk,VA, purchased the S70 Type." So the type is correct, just maybe not the specific train. http://www.trainweb.org/carl/TRAC2008/Siemens.html
  15. Well to be fair the Armanda Hoffler Building and the Cosmopolitan are covering up the area that would be where the Aloft is built in this angle
  16. Here is a rendering of Phase IV: http://www.divaris.com/
  17. Preliminary agreement for the acquisition of the Norfolk Southern Line by virginia beach: http://hamptonroads.com/2009/02/its-end-li...il-negotiations
  18. One Columbus was indeed first, it was there when all the movie theatre was a lot full of trees. Where the Music store/Barnes and nobles is now used to be a hardware store of some kind or a walmart. Sorry really stretching back to my childhood to remember, however there was a store there before. Where the Alltel store is now used to be a sketchy kind of club with a boxcar in front.
  19. I am a resident of Virginia Beach but close enough to Norfolk to easily grab the train at Newtown Road. I have been told by my parents that rails and ties are finally being laid there. Could anyone snag some pictures please?
