  1. I thought they were adding apartments already to the area that used to be the site of a hypothetical third anchor already, is that not happening?
  2. So recently I had the opportunity to come back to the area, or go to the Richmond area and telework there. I choose the latter. While HR is always getting better... there is still a long way to go for me in urban development before I would go back there. It will always be home, but maybe that is the problem.
  3. One good commuter rail line from Richmond to Northern Virginia/DC would take care of everything, but unfortunately it isnt there. If Richmond could do an every hour, less than two hour rail trip to Alexandria downtown would fill up right quick.
  4. yeah, but about that surface lot right in front........
  5. Old article on the "Senior living community" but rendering I havent seen before: https://www.pilotonline.com/life/real-estate/vp-nw-senior-living-0302-20210301-zt7j2rmvonfoveunj2voy5afn4-story.html And the project page: https://www.kahlerslater.com/expertise/residential/pembroke-senior-living
  6. So, I just got a teleworking position and looking to move to a spot near downtown Richmond. Looking at areas near Scott's Addition, Manchester near the bridge to downtown, edge of Shockoe Bottom and Church Hill area. I keep hearing about the "crime wave" going on in Shokoe bottom, ;ack of places to get groceries and the distance from downtown for Manchester, and that Scott's addition is the best place to go. I will be doing telework at home, so really looking for a nice view since I will see that very often, any advice from the group? Thank you all.
  7. I think BRT gets a bad reputation (and I have been there before) But I think if you look at how successful it has been in Richmond, it isnt a bad start or way to go. Plus, if they really want they could try guided busways on the old rail alignment. Works well for the Cambridge/Cambridgeshire area:
  8. Apartments=year round residents year round residents=retail demand year long, year round amenities demand There fore less low quality touristy shops on the beachfront
  9. So pop quiz! This is Virginia beach history related, anyone know what this is? (No cheating with reverse image search!)
  10. False Infrared Sentinel -1 satellite imagery from 26 March to today showing land clearing on the site:
  11. Gif showing False color infrared shots from the ESA Sentinel 2 Satellites from December to April of the Suffolk construction site. Open to animate.
  12. As someone who has to fly RyanAir out of Stansted Airport all I can do is
  13. Three Notch'd is a pretty good brewery, they started in Charlottesville and really stood out in a town full of great local beer. I highly recommend trying it out when they open. https://threenotchdbrewing.com/
  14. You can use a shuttle system to disembark passengers and send them to a separate area for passport control, they do that here in Europe for a lot of smaller airports (and in Europe, the vast majority of flights are international) {quote]It is not economically feasible to fly smaller jets across the Atlantic. They usually fly 767s or 777s.[/quote] Airlines are actually interested in smaller, longe-range aircraft that would fit well in Norfolk. Look up the Airbus A321LR/XLR or the future Boeing NMA/797. Even existing Boeing 757s are being repurposed for international flights, I recently flew back to Dulles from England last October on Iceland Air using two 757s with an aircraft change at Iceland. If Norfolk can shave cost off a flight compared to flights in the beltway, might open up a lot of traffic to ORF.
  15. May 5th 2018 shot of Town center from Planet's Skysat! https://goo.gl/b2NuLq
  16. Looking at their website, Olympia looks.... like a typical Virginia Beach Office suburban developer. You know the office park adjacent to City Walk ( the Convergence Center, office buildings right by I-264 ) Pretty much what they own/lease: https://olympiadevelopment.com/available-properties/
  17. The new Airbus A321LR might be good for Norfolk, as it is a small (B737) sized aircraft capable of flying over the Atlantic to Europe (although barely) Norfolk could benefit from being a low cost hub alternative to the big East coast hubs like JFK/Dulles/ATL ect. https://airwaysmag.com/industry/analysis-looking-at-potential-routes-for-the-airbus-a321lr/ Edit: The probable upcoming Boeing 797 Middle-of-the-market (MOM) aircraft could also do so, as it will be capable of transatlantic flights and will be 757-sized (and I know I have flown 757s into Norfolk before)
  18. Honestly, I don't think Virginia Beach has a chance for this second HQ (or any other city in Hampton Roads). However, I can see Mayor Sessoms push resulting in other benefits for Virginia Beach, as it puts the city on Amazons map as the company increases the size of its web services (cloud ect) having access to the fiber line is a real incentive! Plus, would be nice to have a thriving ecosystem of multiple businesses (co-located for the fiber and Amazon web services) than one MASSIVE company. That is how you get a silicon valley.

  21. I have to disagree on this one, the article seems to present an honest evaluation of an issue (traffic) without turning the article into a hit job. Also notice that the push for light rail in the article that would probably fix the problem. Living in a couple college towns I can see how big events majorly disrupt local traffic, this is a conversation we should have now to mitigate the problem and enhance the stadium and beach area.
  22. And notice they dont go near enough to ODU...... Edit: Sorry only went off the one image, seems there are a multitude of options that do include ODU.
