  1. I have heard or seen nothing of this please do not bring this type of energy to this Memphis blog this is about truth and positivity not speculations.
  2. There is something called a budget and there is only so much glass you can have in an art museum. I think the design is simple but its about the materials it will be beautiful once done.
  3. No the pictures dont do it justice you have to see it in person and keep in mind the large grass spaces were left for Memphis in May.
  4. Tom Lee Park is finally open and is beautiful. Memphis has executed an urban Park very well even open for night time use.
  5. A few shots from Frayser Girls Inc new building and urban farm.
  6. This building is under construction they have placed the construction trailers in the street and bulldozers are digging the foundation for the parking garage and basement. Full swing nothing stalled here.
  7. That event was packed i went and was not expecting traffic out on cleveland street it was way bigger than i could have imagined.
  8. Actually the westin garage will be full atomic rose has filled the corner space and rapper 2 chains is opening ESCO in the space in the middle that has been empty for the longest so the garage will be full.
  9. Lets get something straight the news in Memphis is obsessed with the term mass shooting. Every shooting that has happened this year has been mass something. I hate how the news in memphis repeats the negative stories 400 times a day. Yet i was downtown the next night at sunset jazz in the park which happens every second sunday and there are never any issues, or yoga in the park etc. Downtown late at night can accumulate large groups of people hanging in the parking lots just listening to music and hanging out and most crazy events stem from those large groups. The issue is that beale street has about 50 police stationed at any time yet the intersections around beale where younger people that cant enter the street hang have no law enforcement. Everyone is concerned with Beale when the cops need to spread out to adjacent intersection mainly near the hooters and the flying saucer and main street at peaybody place.
  10. That angled building has been torn down and new apartments are going there.
  11. I think i finally see steel beams coming out he ground, hope to be able to get some pictures soon these buildings are locked off in the middle of the campus.
  12. I drove past this site a few weeks ago it is amazingly huge. They really need to build some apartments, towncenters etc in the area because that is way too much building to not have any residents within a 5 mile radius.
  13. The project is not stalled the friends of our riverfront group wants then to extend the bluff walkway to connect to the museum 's rooftop park. The project also is not stalled when you here that a permit was filed that means the project was submitted to code enforcement for review, meaning it will take a few months for the project to actually be approved by code and start construction. Its deceptive but the project is going to be built its just in code review at the moment.
  14. The zoo i believe is going to add an aquarium within the zoo on the older side.
  15. The Oliver (7 Vance Ave). Going up fast. New Transit garage.
  16. lots of famous people fly into the downtown airport.
  17. Most of the cities you named are coastal cities tech cities and corporate cities. Further reinforcing what I'm saying some people don't find cities attractive unless they have certain things in them and corporate jobs brings a different type of retail and development while you may be in the travel industry I'm in architecture and I know what makes people feel attracted to a place. Both nashville, Austin Charlotte Denver and Atlanta used to be smaller cities but all went through a boom of corporate expansion. Think about it fed ex and st jude host marathons and all sorts of events that bring tourist to Memphis 20,000 etc for the st jude marathon. So corporate presence plays a big role role you can't just deny that I work downtown and see the traffic everyday a who brings it.
  18. Tourism is fine we just dont get the white collar job corporate foot traffic that is why nashville has so many hotels and conventions. Large corporations bring guests and vendors in and out all the time. With our abundant warehouse jobs we dont get that benefit. But leisure tourist Memphis does well, we do need some better larger hotels that would help too but we have small minded local developers that let 5 million dollars stop a 200 million dollar project. Crime is crime and is everywhere and until recently it has become more public and brasen not just in Memphis but nationally every police department is dealing with car thefts and these robberies thats why i hate when people try to make this a memphis only problem. But anyway more corporate businesses and better hotels would help.
  19. Mobility center panels going up The Oliver I believe there is 1 more level to go.
  20. They actually have been getting more request from other festivals.
