  1. The city announced on Last Tuesdays Meeting that the design for the covention center hotel and dome site will be complete and released in Novemeber. The city will than decide if that is what they want to be built there and if the city is satisified with the design. If soo. It will be sent to city council for approval and contruction will start later next year.
  2. Well you Heard wrong.. Look at the video. U can see the verterans memorial in the background in some parts of the video.. Thats 19th street. the convention center is to the left in the video. and the rappers and driving some cheap looking cars. I have a maserati. Are you telling me they cant show off expensive cars for a music video shoot?.. what a waste.. And im also from Virginia Beach. Born and raised. so I know what area is what.. Its the birdneck 19th street corridor.. Mcds is down the street on 19th and birdneck. south beach apts is on birdneck next to mcds.. The parking lot is where club Abyss use to be. anymore questions? It's nighttime, I heard it was 19th + Atlantic, and I see some high rises in the backround, so of course i'm gonna think its on the strip. How can you tell anyways? Oh, and why is it so cold?!
  3. For your information. Its not 19th and Atlantic. Its 19th street period.. Atlantic is on the beach..Its where the Virginia Beach Convention Center is and Verterans Memorial.. get your facts straight!.. Too bad that area was not completely developed like in the renderings for the oceanfront masterplan.. that would have been a hot music video with all the modern buildings in the video.. They should have did the music video in town center. It would have been soo much better
  4. Why dont you get off your high Horse and do your research Urbanlife.. The newstarts program is what will pay for the lightrail nimwad!. The goverment is paying for this system. Do you not recall the bill that was passed by General assembly in 2008?.. Hello.. Richmond already spent 20million for va beach to buy the right away for lightrail because its now a law to build it.. Because of the high gas prices and they want hampton roads to go green.. Better transportation options, more development.. before you start putting you two sense into anything,. do your research or you will just look ignorant.
  5. See the problem today is the Baby Boomers. They live in the past about racisim and hatred about low income people. There are good and bad low income people. and most of the people blame it on the black people which is not right. The city needs to get over the racis issue about lightrail.. Bringing the riffraff from norfolk to the beach.. Norfolk is becoming a nice city. Its being cleaned up and new buildings are going up everywhere.. Look at Town Center. we have our own downtown area that we can all enjoy a nice dinner/lunch, a broadway show, comedy shows. Beautiful dwellings to live and Class A office space to work in.. We need lightrail so we can become more diverse with transportation options. Boom TOD development along and around the norfolk southern corridor and watch Virginia Beach Downtown Bustle with life and success.. Bring the TIDE to the beach!!. We need it!.. Just imagine all the holidays that come every year and having lightrail. It would take most of the traffic off the road. People could board and unboard at the convention center and walk down the new 19th street corridor. Enjoying the nice restraunts/shops and arriving at the Entertainment Complex at the old dome site for more entertainment..
  6. Yeah well his old ass wont know what the future will hold anyways.. He will croak. He is noone special just another defense contractor in the area.. drop dead already. And you really think the young generation will vote for a referendum.. Nooo.. We want Mass Transit for our region. Too boost up development, give us better high paying jobs, better source of transportation and the list goes on. .. So why dont you drop dead fred!..
  7. Yeah I completely Agree with VaRider. Just Imagine the lightrail running up and down atlantic and pacific ave too with all the tourist. Bringing them to the Convention Center.. Town Center and etc. You wouldnt even have to worry about parking at the beach to see the fire works or any of the popular days like labor day and memorial day weekend.. They would be coming on trains taking away traffic. They could park at harbor park and take lightrail to the beach. that would relieve all the traffic congestion on 264 and the oceanfront on the residential roads..
  8. they are building a 24hr Walgreens. I think its gonna be more beachy though to go with the oceanfront area
  9. I don't think its going to take 2 to 3 years to do a phase from newtown to TC.. Maybe 6months at the most or a year.. That is a small segment of light rail track and there isn't any waterways or major over passes/bridges to construct like in Norfolk. Its flat land which wouldn't take them long at all to extend the light rail track to town center.. It would defiantly take them 1.5yrs to go from town center to the oceanfront though. no question asked.. since its 11miles. and again no major water ways. Just small creeks.. Thalia Creek and Lynnhaven Creek..
  10. Yeah they are building the New Sentara Hospital. It has nothing to do with cityview.. Cityview is on bonney road..
  11. Yes Varider. All the buildings planned for Phase 2 will go up at the same time. Hense why they call it Phases. Like at town center.. Phase I, Phase 2, Phase 3..there was always 2 or 3 buildings going up at the same time with the start of town center project
  12. no. Cityview is being built on bonney road.. Oh. Virginia Beach City approved the extension of constitution. go to the current agenda. www.vbgov.com. city council. current agenda.. Even beach centre was approved
  13. In other news, developer Ripley - Heatwole Co. secured a $5 million loan to begin the second phase of CityView @ Town Center in Virginia Beach, a 24-acre mixed use development on Bonney Road. The funds will be used for site work and the extension of Constitution Drive to Bonney Road. CityView at Town Center includes residential, retail and office space, with nearly half of the land preserved as tidal wetlands along Thalia Creek. Phase one of the development, Midtown @ CityView, consists of 196 apartment homes, 750- to 1,550-square-feet apiece, in three buildings, connected by sky bridges to a centrally located covered parking garage. The project architects at CMSS are currently completing the design of the next two mid-rise, mixed-use buildings, which include a 400-space parking deck, with construction beginning later this year. When complete, CityView will contain 75,000- to 125,000-square-feet of retail and office space, 425 rental apartment homes, 30 loft-style condominium homes and 100 luxury condominium homes. You can read the article at the Link below.. Phase 2 of CityView CityView Article
  14. Va Beach city council are idiots. Armada Hoffler had a perfect plan for the dome site. but they pulled out because the city was taking too damn long to do anything. they drag their feet about everything. Even Light rail. I mean hello. We could have boarded light rail in 2005 with town center and everythign else going up around it. That is why norfolk is on track with everything. The Armada Hoffler project was going to be a large entertainment center with IMAX movie theatre, dinner show theartres, clubs/lounges for night life. Jullians was going to open a place there and even have a nice day cafe.. But they let it blow out the window. Even dolly parton wanted to build a nice amusement park there back in 1990.. that fell threw too.. Dixie Stampede I'm not sure what to think of this potential development. I don't see a bowling alley, ferris wheel, and movie theater as a "world class" destination. Where are the shops and restaurants and young adult entertainment aspects. This idea just misses the boat. That better be a bigger ferris wheel than London's eye or I don't see a point to it at all. This is not supposed to be a permanent carnival location...
  15. Looks like typical Va beach suburb apartments. Nothing spectaular about this development. very boring actually! Pictures from Phase one: http://picasaweb.google.com/ronsmytheiii/S...934415447279170
  16. For your information. This is just ideas and talk for now.. Nothing is at fruition now..You will soon hear more things in the next couple months.. I promise you that..
  17. I was just in town center today during a business meeting. We had a guy there at our lunchen talk about promoting a major brand name known Hardrock Cafe and Hotel.. He wants to develop the HQ building site into a 28 story Hardrock Hotel and Cafe with future plans of a elevated lighrail station inside the hotel to drop off guests. I guess similar to the one in Vegas with a Monorail station inside the hotel. The hotel will be 5 stars of course with a lake and fountain in the middle. retail/shops, restraunts on the bottom floors like hilton at the va beach oceanfront.. I will find out more information. But they are in neogiations with getting the land from sifen..I will keep you guys updated.
  18. The horseshoe buildings. and the Top building infront of the Park is The City Jail and Courthouses, and goverment buildings.. There is no cityview project..They are moving the The goverment offices to where the PA highschool is.. and building a future PA highschool elsewhere. This would be a true downtown.. Like everyone says.. Connecting the goverment with the city Center is ideal.
  19. Where did you get this document?.. And when are they going to bring the modifcations that are made with the new plans?
  20. The 1st floor of the westin is The New Virginian Pilot newspaper company. They are doing the interior now.. I walked by the other day. they also have the Virginian Pilot sign up on the corner of columbus street and independence.. A vertical sign..
  21. Trader Joes is located where the Old North Carolina Company use to be on Laskin Road in Virginia Beach.. in the hilltop area
  22. What they need to do is move the Mcdonalds into town center...not have a seperate building. they need a diversity with different types of restraunts. Not just upscale.. Noone can really afford these upscale places right now.. I would make sense to move some fast food places into town center. give it a mix.. more people would come to town center to eat, hangout u cant just market upscale diners. you have to market all diners.. Move taco bell into town center.. On main street.. or central park ave.. maybe below the westin.. it needs to be a place for everyone to enjoy... You could have a nice mcdonalds with a plasma screen, internet access with a fire place and fountains....a more modern mcdonalds, same thing with the taco bell..
  23. Virginia Beach Signs Agreement with Norfolk Southern To Acquire Railroad Right-of-Way Mayor William D. Sessoms Jr. announced today that the City of Virginia Beach has signed an agreement with Norfolk Southern Corp. to acquire the railroad right-of-way that runs through the city.
