  1. The new Cribbs Kitchen location opens this Thursday. They've got the signage up and it looks good. Looking forward to giving it a try!
  2. Wesley's daughter is the owner of Nu-Way, FWIW.
  3. Surprised as well. That entire complex needs to be bull-dozed and rebuilt from the ground up. I was hopeful that would happen with only Office Max/Depot and the Dollar Tree still there. Perhaps Longhorn can bring an anchor in, but I'm not betting on it. I'd still love to see a Whole Foods/Trader Joes/Earthfare/Fresh Market where CC was.
  4. My niece spoke the manager of Cook Out yesterday, and he indicated that they've also bought property somewhere in the Dorman Center.
  5. Wow! We vacation at Folly every summer, and Taco Boy is our favorite place to eat. The soft fish taco is tremendous!!!! Ground floor of the Montgomery Building. "George" students would overrun the place at lunch.
  6. Outwest Steakhouse (on Reidville Rd., next to the Saturn dealership) has been for sale for some time now, and it appears they've found a buyer for the property. There is a sign up claiming The Clock is coming soon.
  7. Guess everyone has seen that Symposium Cafe on the Westside is being remodeled and prepped for a new restaurant (Mediterranean food).
  8. Spartan Photo. What do I win? http://www.goupstate.com/article/20090624/...ed-for-downtown
  9. Ate at Anita's in Simpsonville for the first time Friday night. Great mexican, and very fresh. It's in an old house, and my wife and I sat out on the porch. Just like sitting on the porch at home. Generous portions and good service.
  10. Did I understand correctly? They don't collect any of the tax refund until they've been there for 15 years? "Under the program, the developers would be eligible for a 30 percent rebate of increased property taxes once the site is redeveloped for 15 years. " Previous article
  11. RJ Rockers? BTW, I heard they are looking to move into the Old Salvation Army store. The deal on Southport Road apparently felll through.
  12. Dollar Tree and Office Depot are the only two stores left there. Not sure how the lease is structured, but the location would be much better served IMO with a complete teardown and rebuild. I'd still love to see a Whole Foods there, but I don't know if Spartanburg can support that. That entire "triangle" of land, including the consignment shop, the XXX store....just about everything except Hooters, has so much retail potential. Sadly, we are probably not in the best of economic times for someone to pour in the type of money that it would take to redevelop it.
  13. Chief's Wings and Firewater Fuddruckers (I think) Chandi's also have outside seating. Tidbits: - I believe Starbucks on the eastside is going to make it. I asked about 2 weeks ago about the closing date, and they said they'd know one way or the other within 30 days (from the date I asked). Business picked up during Christmas, so who knows? The guy I asked said that their sales have been much higher than anticipated over the last couple of months. - Jimmy Johns is looking for a place on the Westside in addition to their current store. They were close on an agreement to move into a portion of the old Pier One site, but it feel through. I think they are now looking at the strip complex going up across from Outback. Dunkin Donuts is also looking at the same location.
  14. Probably due to some of the issues with the Sphinx station over by Converse Heights. Don't know if you read the article in the SHJ, but it's made life miserable for at least one family (not just the noise and the light, but the strong smell of Benzine and other fumes).
  15. I don't know, but my neighborhood association (Woodland Heights) is up in arms against the rezoning of that property for commercial use.
  16. You're thinking about Chief's on Reidville. Buffalo's was next to Rick's Car Wash. As for Nga's, my wife and I went there one time. We sat down, and the lady taking our drink order had a ton of black dirt underneath her fingernails. We decided to dine elsewhere.
  17. Maybe someone there is reading this forum...... It's being painted today. Looks much better.
  18. Well, the front page of today's SHJ confirmed that the Hillcrest Starbucks is one of the 616 US stores that it will close by January 2009 due to underperformance. It will be the only store closed in South Carolina. Kind of a shame. I know they put a ton of money into it, and I believe it serves as some type of network hub for stores in this region.
  19. Can I vent quickly? Monkey Joes (indoor kids place, next to Barnes and Noble) will be opening on Saturday. My kids love the one in Greenville, but I've got a bad feeling about the Spartanburg location. First, they ran an article in a Feburary SHJ, stating that it would be open March 1st. Didn't happen. Then, they sent out an mass email in June saying they'd be open July 1. Didn't happen. Hopefully, this saturday will be the day. But the thing that bothers me most is the signage above the store. After they removed the "Athlete's Foot" sign, there was a visable imprint of what used to be there. Did they pressure wash or repaint? Nope. They just slapped the Monkey Joe's sign right over it, so now you can send the imprint of the previous sign behind the current one. It looks like crap, and it would have taken a minimum of expense for them to fix. Not sure why some businesses don't go the extra mile. Another thing.....the Greenville store has a nice 50" plasma TV set up in the adult area (free wifi and computer stations also). But do they get high def programing? NO. I don't get it......you're going to spring for a $1,500 HDTV, but you're not going to pay an extra $10 a month for high def content? Ok.....just wanted to get that out.
  20. Woohoo!!!!!! Monkey Joe's coming to the westside, and locating next to Barnes and Noble!!! This is great news for my family (I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old). We commute to the one in Greenville about twice a month. Now, it's just a quick jump from our house in Woodland Heights! Target opening date is March 1st. http://goupstate.com/article/20071204/NEWS...004/1026/NEWS07
  21. Yeah, and that makes sense, but I was kind of thinking of the Starbucks on Woodruff Rd in Greenville. In fact, all of these new strip centers remind me of Woodruff Rd a great deal.....although much smaller.
  22. I'd be shocked if a Starbucks doesn't end up somewhere over there.
  23. It's going to be some type of bank. They built a stand alone ATM for it first.....guess they thought it would raise visability during construction.
  24. Couple things I haven't seen mentioned...... - I've noticed trucks at the old Home Depot on W.O. Ezell. Looks like the prelim work is being down for the transformation into Burlington Coat Factory. - The KFC has been torn down on W.O. Ezell across from Jasons Deli. Replacing it will be......KFC. The old building was somewhat run down and dated. Not sure if the new place will be a combo (ie KFC/Long John Silvers), but the look should be very modern. - The Family Video on W.O. Ezell where Pizza Inn used to be is coming along. It looks like a good amount of money is being put into the structure, as it's a pretty large brick building. I've got to admit, I still don't understand why someone would sink that kind of money into a brick and mortar video rental business, as it's a dying format. Blockbuster has been taking serious losses, and I've pretty sure video and game rentals will be solely digital downloads within 10 years. - The structure going up opposite Target will contain a Blimpie Sub Shop. - Looks like the exterior work is almost finished on the new strip center next to IHOP. Very nice stone structure on the Pizza Inn portion of the building. Hate to see the Symposium Cafe just sitting there vacant next door, but at least the owners are keeping the landscaping up. - Work continues on the strip centers on Blackstock across from Lowes/Best Buy. That road should look radically different in a year's time. The Firehouse Subs location continues to be packed every time I drive by, and that should continue during the shopping season. - Lot of projects going on over on Reidville Road. The Bella Coffee location across from Outback looks to be 1 or 2 months from completion. The old Movie Gallery at the intersection of Camelot and Reidville has been torn down, and I've noticed that a large portion of the adjacent Reidville frontage property has been purchased. It's about the perfect size for some type of strip center, but I sure wish they'd do something with the shopping center across the street first. That property is too valuable to just sit there. I also wish they'd bulldoze and start over with the Circuit City/former Pier One location at the intersection of Blackstock/W.O. Ezell. Would love to see something like Whole Foods there. Sorry to ramble. Hope this was informative to some.
