  1. As another poster on c-d put it, this screams "Outlet Mall". Disappointingly underwhelmed.
  2. Is it that close? I lived in Ft. Myers briefly in the early 90's, I didn't realize that. I apologize. Man, if it works that airport may really bring fares down at Ft. Myers. I wish Charlotte's population center was moving south, closer to GSP so we could be part of their catchment and reduce fares for both airports, but there's still a whole lotta nothing between GSP and Gastonia(southern most suburb of Charlotte).
  3. I wouldn't call this a Ft. Myers metro thing; Ft. Myers has their own airport. PGD is almost equidistant between Sarasota and Ft. Myers. It's a regional thing and pretty smart imho. Lakeland Airport is trying to recruit airlines as well, as they're almost exactly halfway between Tampa and Orlando.
  4. I'm pretty sure I heard it's the new Burger King to replace the one that closed further down WH across from KMart. man, Burger King sucks; I remember when they use to be good. We have so many fast food joints here in Greertucky; when are we at least gonna get a Chili's for crying out loud?
  5. Krisit, What's Point Plaza? I love Chipotle but I thought that they were going into Magnolia Park. Good news either way. Thanks
  6. Not even close. I had to fly to Anaheim on business last month but I was bringing my wife and daughter. If I'm flying by myself I will fly out of GSP 'cause my company is paying for the ticket, however since I had to pay for my wife I checked GSP vs CLT; $300 cheaper! Even with gas and parking, Charlotte has a $4/day long term lot (can't beat it) I saved close to $200. That's not chump change and it's really important to me to be wise with money. It's been my experience that people who think not driving to Charlotte is worth $200 are the same ones that spend $5 ona latte, 5 x's a week and are $20k in credit card debt.
  7. Are you talking about the former Munchies location? I thought it was going to be a Pinkberry's.
  8. That's extremely condescending and offensive. I moved here from LA a year and a half ago. I'm very familiar with New Urbanism and TND's. You act as if these developers are doing this out of some sort of benevolence, and that's just what they bank on; the fact that they can dupe people into paying exorbitant amounts of money for a tiny house on a tiny piece of land as long as they market it as New Urbanism or TND. As I stated previously the word Traditional is a misnomer, as it implys that these developments harken back to neighborhoods of yore; truth be told, it's a ruse because neighborhoods in the 20's, 30's, 40's 50's and so one were all built on lots never smaller then 1/4 to 1/2 acre, just look around at older neighborhoods and see for yourself. As far as living in a house with no yard, go for it; that's called freedom of choice, your paradise, not mine. As I've stated previously to you in a similar thread I love my 1/2 acre so my daughter can play and we can grow a garden and grow our own veggies (very green of my, btw ), thing is my choice is as valid as yours, but you don't seem to respect that. I respect your right to pay whatever you want for whatever size house on whatever size lot you choose; I just would appreciate the same.
  9. TND's are the biggest scam out there. It's a win/win for the developer; he can put a home on a lot the size of a postage stamp, thus making much, much more money and at the same time convince bleeding heart libs that they're being environmentally friendly by making less of a "carbon footprint". If any of the developers had any integrity whatsoever they'd build a TND with minimum 1/2 acre lots, like TRADITIONAL homes in TRADITIONAL neighbordhoods had, hence the word; but why would they do that when they can squeeze 3 homes on the same size lot and at the same time convince potential buyers that they're helping save the planet, while jacking up the price big time. As PT barnum once said, "there's a sucker born every minute".
  10. Yeah, 40 is probably more like it. It's funny but most of us do automatically call it an interstate(between or connecting two or more states), but both 385 and 185 are not interstates, they're intrastates (located entirely within one state).
  11. 385's actually not an interstate; despite it's size, it's really only a 25-30 mile stretch of road.
  12. This is great news. We live about 10 minutes from that location here in Greertucky and it is prime real estate. The only thing still occupying it is a Tractor Supply. Wade Hampton is by far the most underserved road here in the Upstate. My wife and I were just talking about this the other day; the fact that we don't have a Ross, Marshalls, Linen n Things, Old Navy, etc. is a joke. Not to mention Chilis or Fridays. Copper River opened up a few months ago and business is booming every single night, always packed. This new shopping center combined with the other one on Buncombe/Brushy Creek is going to add much needed retail to this part of the county.
  13. Yeah, if this is true this is pretty big news. I posted it on city-data as well and one of the posters said he may go to the press. This is tatamount to sabatage. Sorry about the font, btw. I just cut and pasted but it came up that odd color for some reason. Doesn't make the comments any less powerful though. Keep in mind that it was from another message board so the validity is to be questioned. I wish someone (a reporter) could get ahold of this guy to verify his story.
  14. This is from a thread about GSP @ airliners.net. It's a post from deltabobo. Sheds a lot of light on the situation: As a former ramper with every airline at GSP (with the exception of US), I will tell us this.....All the major LCC's out there (WN, B6, F9, and FL) WANT TO COME TO GSP, but they want subsidies from the GSP Airport Commission, but the airport commission will only give subsidies to G4 and G4 ALONE. But remember, the airport commission is run by Roger Miliken, something like fifth richest man in America (correct me if I'm wrong), who is set in his ways. GSP has the second highest airfares in the nation, only CVG is higher. Once good ol' Roger kicks the bucket, the commission will look to get more business. Southwest offered MDW, LAS, LAX, and PHX, among others, B6 offered service to JFK and BOS, FL offered ATL and BWI (to give ol' Delta a run for their money, and guarantee DL would be sending more mainline to fight FL at GSP if they started; F9 offered service to DEN. There are two doors at the end of Concourse A with spaces for new jetbridges. WN offered to buy the jetbridges to use both the new gates, but the commission said no. Well, as long as the good ole boys at GSP are there, nothing will change.
  15. You're 100% correct. The Bi-Lo Center is out of the way and despite being downtown, not integrated into downtown whatsoever. I could see a day, maybe 10-15 years down the road where a state of the art Arena/Convention Center was located somewhere near Flour Field as part of a huge mixed use complex. The BMW Centre, anyone?
  16. Just wanted to bump this for a "what the heck is going on with this place?" discussion. Big time developers with big name commits and not a shovel in the ground yet. Is this becoming Courtyard by Marriott/ POM part 3? There's no way this will be ready by spring of '09 as once projected.
  17. From what you here? Just go back one page and you can read where I posted it. I'll do you the favor and repost it for you. C'mon gimme some props here. Sheesh!

I'm a product specialist for Lexus and travel around the country for the auto show circuit. I was in Cleveland last week and two of my co-workers and myself walked past a Smart car and I immediately called it a carffin. It's a hybrid, but not in the way we think of. You drive it off the lot, get in an accident and then they'll bury you right in it, no muss,no fuss. Carffin= 1/2 car 1/2 coffin.
  20. I just flew in fron Cleveland this morning and in the terminal in Cleveland the lady at the gate kept announcing that they were now boarding for GreenSville! UGHHHH!! Over and over. It wasn't a direct jetway, we had to walk down and out and another lady was directing people to their were proper flights, as more than one was in the same area. As I was walking towards the plane another lady stated/asked, "GreenSville?". I had finally had enough and although I was pretty ticked off inside, I replied with a smile, "There's no S, it's Greenville". She didn;t even get it though, she just smiled and said, "Oh, okay". I mean what if I called her town Clevelands?

I'm reposting this from the journal thread. My initial rsponse to a restaurant named Munchies specializing in "carnival food" was a combination of literally lol'ing with a simutaneous "EWWWWW". Having grown up in the restaurant biz. and creating varous concepts, "carnival food" ranks slightly above a restaurant that features airline food and a step below one that would offer prison fare. What an awful concept. I'm very pro business and love creativity but some things just shouldn't be done. I mean c'mon talk about perpetuating the fact that we're the 4th fatest state in the nation.
  22. I've heard from a relible source that this is going to be the location for the long anticipated Ruths Chris. Seems kinda out of the way, but I guess it's close to both Woodruff and Haywood.
  23. I still can't get over the fact that these prime "waterfront" locations aren't occupied with restaurants with al fresco dining/seating. How cool would that look to see them filled with people patronizing restaurants, coffee shops, cafes, bistros and the like? Does anyone know if the artists got a break on rent? How on earth could they afford this space unless it was subsidized? Thanks
  24. RT, Thanks you literally made me lol. I'm not worried though, if and when Chipotle gets here and then Baja Fresh, the Moes Disgusting Restaurant in the world will fade into restaurant oblivion ala Morrisons Cafeteria, Genos, Roy Rogers, etc. Hey don't look at me you started it. Getting back to the building in front of WF, it's funny that no one has a concrete answer. Waiting for the sign to go up, waiting.....waiting.....still waiting
