  1. Honestly, prettymuch all of them! The ones I wouldn't go back to have weeded themselves out.....see above my list of closed breweries. I'm well past 50 now, so yeah I try to avoid crowds and the hottest scene for sure. I don't know if I'll ever go to Sycamore again.....unless it's just to see the new place. Edge City is probably my least favorite of the Charlotte breweries, but my wife disagrees, hahaha. We adore Birdsong and it's easily the one we frequent most......but all of them have something special that we love. I mean, we'll never go to Heist original or Legion southpark again, but we love Barrel Arts and Legion PM and Legion Morehead. We recently bought a place out in the country west of Gastonia, so we've been enjoying checking out the breweries that way.....BrickTree, Traust, Primal, Cavendish......plus Veronet vineyard (although the beer selection is pretty horrible). Haven't moved yet, though, so we're still hitting Lore and Middle James for convenience, and all the others when we want a full outing.
  2. Yesterday I went to Armored Cow for the first time......and I've now visited all 25 Charlotte* breweries, unless something has opened since Midnight Mulligan that I'm not aware of, haha. Plus, of course, many closed ones like Four Friends, Bold Missy, Three Spirits, Thirsty Nomad, Sunstead, Unknown, and was Southend a Charlotte original?? Of course there are tons of other "Charlotte Breweries"......2nd locations, breweries from out-of-town, taprooms, Meck but not Charlotte proper, etc., etc. I've visited LOTS of those, but I don't consider them canon and they aren't a priority.....for me. Anyway, Armored Cow was pretty great. Very un-crowded on a Sunday at 2pm-ish. Good space, good beer, nice people, great bathroom. *Charlotte breweries that are relatively undisputed as Charlotte breweries: OMB, NoDa, Birdsong, Triple C, Heist, Lenny Boy, Sugar Creek, Sycamore, Free Range, Wooden Robot, Legion, Blue Blaze, Suffolk Punch, Resident Culture, Divine Barrel, Pilot, Town, Protagonist, Armored Cow, Lower Left, Devil's Logic, Edge City, Petty Thieves, Vaulted Oak, Midnight Mulligan.
  3. Seeing all the development outside 277, some of it JUST outside, really makes the "cap 277" dream seem almost necessary!
  4. Okay here are some from my low-budget android phone.
  5. Okay thanks for that perspective. Definitely different than mine, hahaha! Always good to hear other views.
  6. Thanks for all the info! I'm up pretty high, so it's a good view. And the window space is so different than being in 400 S Tryon, hahahaha!
  7. This might be on-topic but I don't know which thread..... From my new spot in the fancy new Duke tower, I look down Tryon-ish. What are the two new towers being built sort-of across the street from the Lowe's tower? (They're probably slightly closer to uptown, too.) And what's going in the spot where the diner used to be? Thanks!!
  8. Do we know if they're brewing? Or is this a taproom with their beer shipped in? And I'm also not clear what you mean by "a lot more effort" than most breweries? Prettymuch all Charlotte breweries are very shiny and seemed to have done a crapton of work.
  9. Did a CLTBEER blind tasting last night with a friend.....always a good time. Last night's category was Hefeweizen. I chose OMB as the best, he chose Middle James (okay, Pineville). Armored Cow was 3rd for both of us, and bringing up the rear, easily, was Blue Blaze. My wife had the Hefe on tap at Blue Blaze just last weekend, and it was fine....and she agreed this can was off. I think it must have been old (purchased yesterday at Total Wine), but there wasn't a date on it.
  10. So, what was the deal here? Was their new space just not ready yet when they closed the old place? Was the new place behind schedule? I mean, they lost 8(?) months of taproom business, didn't they? Recourse against the new building owners? Not that I care.....I'm just curious how these things work. Also.....they're not brewing at the new place, are they? Taproom only? Or do they have some brewing/fermenting?
  11. To be fair, Sunstead's beer sucked even before the pandemic.
  12. Re-posting here for those of you that aren't on the reddit machine. From one point-of-view, the count is 26 local and 9 non-local.......the number of non-local is sort-of staggering to me. (I removed Bhramari assuming that they're gone for good.....can re-add if they decide to resurrect.)
  13. Yeah we had 2 of them and they were terrific!
  14. We went to the new(?) Legion on West Morehead. Cool place! And they were brewing so the hop smell was crazy strong. Plenty of tables/space outside out front though only umbrellas for shade. Unfortunately, full wait-service, which isn't great if you just want to drink beer and hang out. Bathrooms don't have paper towels.....only s**t-blowers. Verdict: 4/10 for a beer, 8/10 if you want lunch.
  15. I was chatting with a guy at Mojo and he mentioned a "coming soon" brewery in Mint Hill......Panzu....."Caribbean Theme".......allegedly at 7251 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227. Their facebook is dead since June. Anybody know anything about this one? https://www.facebook.com/panzubrewery https://panzubrewery.com/
  16. I was in Reid's uptown today to get a breakfast burrito (highly recommended), and I was checking on the 4-packs of local beer. I was so astonished by the package dates I actually documented them to share here, hahaha. CoCo LoCo - 01/27/22, Radio Haze - 06/24/22, Hop Drop - 07/06/22, Weiz Not - 04/14/22, Jam Session - 07/08/22, Juicy Jay - 09/13/22
  17. Yeah I guess it's probably just Hwy 74 miles from Tenn......I was probably just getting confused with all the 74's, hahaha!
  18. After a quick bit of searching came up empty, I'll give up and ask here: What's with the exit numbering on Independence near uptown? Like why is Eastway exist 245? What does that match up with, if anything?
  19. What kind of paint was used for those Magic Carpets on the rail trail? Those things are still relatively bright after, what, 3 or more years?
  20. Well, it turns out Wooden Robot opens at 8am on Sat and Sun for their "coffee bar", but you can order beer too......which I did. Kitchen opens at 12 both days. So ignore everything online that says they open at 10am, hahaha.
  21. We love Lower Left! But we're looking for an early Sunday brunch, and both OMB and Robot open at 10am.
  22. Hey, what's the setup at Wooden Robot these days? We were hoping for brunch at OMB on Sunday but now see their Okt is going on, blech! So we haven't been to Robot in about 5-6 years.....before they ever expanded into the space next door and added food and seating or whatever? Anyway, what's the story now? I'm finding it impossible to make heads or tails of it from the reviews and descriptions. Is it waiter/waittress? Or is there a bar/taproom area where you can still order food? Kitchen? Food truck? Help me out, hahahaha! Thanks!
  23. I think it might be time to break into my stash of fall beers......here's what I've amassed: Oktoberfests: Town, OMB, Legion, Lenny Boy, Booneshine, 2 Birdsong, 2 Triple C, 2 NoDa Pumpkin: Drop Dead Gordgeous, 3 Gordgeous Let the drinking begin. Still need to grab Blue Blaze's Alpine whatever it is, which is sort-of their Okt. (If you know of any other local cans of Okt....let me know! (Not interested in pumpkin.)) Edit: The numbers above are the number of 4-packs, ha ha ha.
  24. I mean, you released this literally 5 weeks ago.....
  25. I didn't try the Key Lime Kolsch last year, but this year took a 4-pack to the beach with me....I was pleasantly surprised! Today we went to the brewery right at 3pm for the Festbier release. Delicious beer, though I'll save my cans for cooler weather. We got 2 pints and 5 4-packs (not all Festbier) and it was $60 before tip. Unreal.
