  1. Well why not, since we're on the topic of weather and timelapse's, here's a time lapse of that snow storm coming in this past winter. Something Charlotte doesn't get much of.
  2. Forgot about that place actually. I've been there and it was ok, but it felt like a chain restaurant to me. (is it?)
  3. Went to Cowbell this past weekend with family in town. This is the space that was formerly Nix on 5th street, which was also a burger bar. Cowbell is associated with the group that run Mortimer's in Epicentre and Leroy Fox in Cotswold. They expanded the bar which is probably about 3 times the length as it was in Nix. From a business standpoint this was their best idea. Nix had a nice atmosphere and decent food (kinda), but there was no bar scene which, lets face it, is needed in uptown for the weekend and late night crowd. I took a break from my diet and got the Breakfast Burger and it was pretty incredible! Croissant roll, fried egg, smoked bacon, honey mustard. The burger itself was higher quality then what Nix had imo, but not sure if it will compete with some of the better burger places in Charlotte like Big Daddy's and the Diamond. But being the only option uptown I'm happy to have it as a walkable option. The Pan fried Corn as a side was pretty good too, plenty of spices gave it good taste. The beer options were decent, with a couple local beers, but the drafts started at $5 and up making it a little more expensive then I'd like. See www.eatmorecowbell.com for a look at their menu.
  4. I'm wondering if part of the move to the bigger site (with more outdoor space) will allow them to have a much larger patio and expanded kitchen/dining. They could in theory have a setup similar to VBGB now except they will be serving their own beer. As they follow the German "Reinheitsgebot", it would be great if they became a true Beer Hall and served more traditional German food as well making it even more of a destination.
  5. Brick pavers are going in at the corner of 3rd and Church this morning, and it looks like they are ready to do much of the church street sidewalk and maybe even part of the spine with pavers. Should start coming together quickly now!
  6. I attended the Fuel concert at the Music Factory this past friday which was a part of their $5 friday outdoor concerts. While I'm just not a big fan of the music factory in general, it was a great time for a cheap night. The crowd was VERY mixed in age, and it didn't get overly crowded. I'll def be checking out a couple more of those concerts when there's a band I'm interested in. Also stopped by VBGB for a drink. Decent beer selection, and plenty of long wooden tables to sit at. But I really didn't get the vibe of a German beer hall? Not sure if that's what they are going for, but it felt more like a bar with 106.5 playing (the brand new wood fence and bright concrete patio doesn't really help either). Still worth a trip though, especially with the warmer weather coming up, and it's great to see the JFG sign lit up.
  7. So when does Brevard street construction begin? I know they needed to raise the elevation of the street so that the park didn't have the drop off at the (NE?) corner. Seeing those utilities go away and the Dixies parking lot ripped up will be a welcome sight!
  8. Here's a couple from that insane lightning storm we had last week. Around 1am Wednesday morning, it was nonstop for about 30min.
  9. Charlotte in the clouds... I woke up to this view early Saturday morning. Very surreal! Unfortunetly I waited a little too long because the fog/clouds were dissipating, it was much thicker not 20min earlier. I was pressed for time, so I got ready quick, skipped breakfast, and snapped these off before heading out. 5-7-11
  10. Thanks, all of those were actually taken from the Avenue Condo building. I have a bunch more but don't want to spam this page so here's just a few others. 1-19-11
  11. Well first off, hows everyone been? I'm trying to get back into my old hobby, and what better place to start then, well, where I started... From earlier this evening. 1-19-11 I have a couple more but they are not uploaded yet, will try to post when I get a chance. Mo

  13. No, actually, that would be Correct. The reason the original streetcar spur was going to turn on Fillmore Ave is because they couldn't do the turn at East blvd because of the sharp gradient change and congested corner.
  14. 1-19-10 About 35 min before sunset. Sun came out from the clouds for just a couple minutes to light the skyline. thirds...
  15. Does anyone know if the IMAX theater at Discovery Place is 3D capable? "Avatar" is coming out tomorrow and I plan on going to see it next week, just not sure where yet. I usually just go to Epicentre for movies now, but I dont think they do 3D at all. This movie is suppose to be "groundbreaking" with the 3D visuals.
  16. ^Thanks for leaving out the NC, lol
  17. I dont think the lighting for 440 S. Church has been posted yet. Here's a couple shots from earlier this week. The lighting can change colors much like DEC can, they were rotating through all the different colors last week, but are now keeping it solid. 10-20-09 Its all uplighting, but reflective material around the windows make it look like there are lighting strips on every floor.
  18. Aaaaaahhhhhhhh! That freaks me out just looking at it....
  19. I wish I could make it to this but I gotta work late tomorrow. Anyone else going? Voyager, make us proud and grill them with some tough questions!! And one request, see what their reactions are to the idea of form based zoning...
  20. So, we get the park, and the landswap, but not the baseball stadium? Sorry, but this turned out great IMO. I was not a big fan of the stadium, and now that it may not get built, I hope those blocks can be chopped up and sold for development. Or, used for another pupose that will help draw people to that side of town on a more frequent basis. Anything that adds different uses to the perimeter of the park.
  21. Excellent! How great is it that SOMETHING is moving forward in Levine land.
  22. ^Yeah really, thats not even close. I don't know what PM's defined boundaries are, but this is really pushing it. Would be like calling the McDonalds at Poindexter and South Blvd as being in the heart of Dilworth.
  23. Yeah, any blue that is showing will eventually be covered.
