  1. Extending the trolley down kenilworth to park and all the way to south park would be great. I wonder if they stoped it where they did because of the intersections at east blvd? Kenilworth and Scott are at high angles to east blvd. You can see the scrape marks on the road where cars either went too fast through the intersection or were just low riding. With the structure of Latta pavilion being so close to the road how much of a hassle would they have with smoothing out kenilworth and scott? Im sure streetcars cant handle angles like that. Either way, I guess thats why engineers get paid the big bucks, lol.
  2. Do you think we low-balled our attendance projection? And because we gave our projections first the other cities were able to find a way to make theirs higher to 1up us. I know Atlanta is going to have the highest attendance, but I just dont see Charlotte having lower figures then Richmond or half as much as KC. With 3 races occuring here, the history in the region and all the shops stationed in the area, I cant imagine Charlotte being so far behind in the pack... It was a mistake to announce publicly all our plans.

    Courtside

Just noticed this, but the title of the thread says 21 stories. Isn't it only going to be 17? Or has something changed?
  4. That is awsome, and is exactly what is needed. On top of that, doing something similar down south blvd is really needed. It would promote even more people to use the light rail, instead of just those within walking distance. I forget who it was on here, but someone mentioned they would not bike over to the rail station from ideal way because of similar problems. Hopefully when they redo south blvd where the track will run in the center they will incorporate a bike lane on either side.
  5. wow, maybe im not getting my point out correctly. Me and my truck are not the ones bikers need to worry about. I do drive very safely and an accident didn't occur because of it. I only brought up that situation to emphasize the danger, bad idea I guess. The problem, like I said, is during rush hour traffic when most drivers are trying to get to their destination in the shortest time possible. We all see it, drivers swerving through traffic, doing 15mph over speed limit, that type of thing. Yes, we are required to share the road, but do you think everyone feels that way. Many drivers hurl their cars through traffic with little regard for other drivers let alone a guy on a bike that is very vulnerable if hit. I wish Charlotte was more bike friendly and it was safe for more people to commute using a bike, but unfortunetly its not.
  6. I dont speed, at all... I go 35 in a 35mph zone and usually am annoyed at by those going with traffic (35-40mph or more). That is a shame about being illegal to ride on the sidewalk, did not know that. I dont have a problem with bikes being on the road, when there is no traffic. But isn't it common sense to stay off the streets during rush hour, in a 35 or 45mph zone. Yeah, its legal and all should share the road with hands at 10 and 2 and drive perfectly, obbeying all traffic laws. But its also legal (freedom of speech) for me to walk into a "redneck" bar down in clover with a yankee's ballcap on, leather jacket and tell everyone how much grits and the Braves suck, but it wouldn't be smart. Why risk your life for that. To prove a point, that your allowed to share the road as much as anyone else? Do you ride your bike down main thoroughfares during rush hour, with cars flying by you? No need for any "smart" replies like I should go to driving school either. Its dangerous and would like to understand, educate me...
  7. Im sorry, but a bike going 15 mph in a 35 mph zone during rush hour traffic is just dumb, especially when there is a perfectly good sidewalk 5ft away. Anyone know the S turn on Sharon Rd, between Fairview and Quail Hollow. Twice now, iv'e come upon a bike riding in the right lane on those turns. When your going 35/40 (which is with traffic....), and come up suddenly on a bike thats going 15/20mph slower then you it is a danger to the biker and all drivers around them. I drive a large truck that has 4 wheels accross the back and compartments that stick out just past those wheels. Slamming on the brake with an 18k pound vehicle around a turn is not fun. There are plenty of neighborhoods and back roads they can be riding on, or get on the friggin sidewalk. I understand the roads were built with bicycles in mind, but things have changed, traffic moves too quickly, and the streets are too congested for bikes to be on anymore. Sorry for ranting, but this is something that DOES anger me because I would feel terrible hitting or killing someones father because they HAD to share the road with cars.
  8. Just curious, any way to stop a thread from becoming unread everytime someone votes in a poll. I didn't see anything in my controls, did I miss it? We have alot of people joining everyday and old polls keep coming to the top of the lists but with no new posts...
  9. A museum is going to cater to a much smaller % of people though. Yes they are great for their educational purposes, but for the most part will only be a big attraction to the "higher classes". Your average Joe is not going to stop there more than once. You guys complain about Charlotte not preserving its history, like tearing down old buildings.....well, like it or not, NASCAR is a big part of our history. The HOF being in Charlotte is a way of showing it.
  10. I dont know where you got that impression. Im from up north and thought the races would be big redneck conventions, but there not. The sport has grown on me and I go to every race and love the experience every time. Family and friends come down to see the 600 every year and they have a great time. You must have gone on a bad day and sat in the wrong section and in the wrong seat. And uptown is packed the week of the 600. Im pretty sure their not all bringing groceries from home when they visit race week in uptown...
  11. Yeah, I dont think this is a project we can afford to pass up. The name recognition around the country would be great for Charlotte. NASCAR is not like the other sports, the "blue collar" fans follow it with a different passion. People from ohio, the northeast, texas will make the trip to come to the big races like the coca-cola 600. Having a HOF here would be an even bigger incentive, and maybe, just maybe, would consider Charlotte as a vaction spot for a family that is big into NASCAR. With the race shops, Dale Earnhart memorial, the speedway, and a HOF would be enough for a family to consider us.

    The Vue

God I hope not. A 50 story tower on that side of uptown would add some nice depth to the skyline.
  13. (ouch, that pic was rough on the aircard connection ) The buildings that we see in that picture, is that all of them, the complete mall? Or are there other sections that haven't been started. Just seems smaller then what I thought the whole thing was going to be. Either way, thats one hell of a project...
  14. Thanks for the correction, thats why I put the ? mark at the end. Sounded like a bit much...
  15. WOW, that is very impressive. Only artificial whitewater competition park in the world?? Why are we not hearing more about this. I haven't heard anything on the news or read anything in the paper, but maybe I missed it. Glad its going to be right here in our little town of Charlotte

    The Vue

wow, only about 50ft shorter then Hearst. So this is actually competing with Epicenter on height, depending on what they use per floor...

    The Vue

I passed by this block today and didn't realize how much of an incline its on. (for uptown anyway) I think whatever goes here, if its a highrise, is gonna look shorter then it really is...
  18. Hey guys, im new on here, figured i'd make my presence known in the Charlotte furum. I think iv'e spent about 15hrs in the last 3 days catching up on all the new things happening around Charlotte. You guys are just full of great info, I feel like I know whats going on before the media even finds out... Anyway, I used to live in Jersey up until about 4 years ago. Living outside of NYC and seeing the skyline everyday from 20 miles away made me fascinated with highrises and diferent skylines around the world. When I moved to Charlotte I was excited to be able to see it grow and new buildings go up. So finally after all these new announcements, I found you guys through google. I also found SSC, but seems a little more friendly and mature over here, lol. And yes, IKEA is great for the college/young crowd who cant afford, or dont like the style of regular furniture. Mo
