  1. FYI Crabtree is about to sign a deal that will bring the state's first H&M to the mall: http://www.newsobserver.com/business/local...ory/142078.html This store is expected to draw people from all over the state, and probably neighboring states
  2. Well you can pretty much kiss any prospect of development at Dix for a good while. The state has voted to add administrative staff to the place and it will not longer act as a satellite campus of Butner. There will be a minimum of 100 patients there "for years to come:" http://www.newsobserver.com/politics/dix/story/1665317.html
  3. I'm thinking it will be sometimes after 2010. I believe that in light of the terrible economy we have been in with massive unemployment (despite the fact that the Triangle fared pretty well) and lack of consumer confidence, trying to pass such a tax, on top of the state "temporary" increase, a transit tax is in quite a weak position. People (especially in an area that is car-oriented) will likely shoot it down if given a vote on it, especially so when they are hurting for money themselves. I'm not putting my money on this passing if it goes to the ballot box in 2010.
  4. Cary has approved the $75,000 Deutsche Bank requested. They are also getting $9.4 Million from the state. From what I understand from an article from the N&O, this will be a completely new subsidiary of Deutsche Bank that will create software for the bank's use. The company plans to move into temporary space in Cary in a matter of weeks and start hiring. They plan to have a permanent location by the end of the year. The average job will pay around $88,000. http://www.newsobserver.com/business/story/1646713.html
  5. Because landlords are in business to make money, plain & simple. A number of landlords today are publicly traded companies, so they cater to their shareholders first & foremost, for whom they have a legal responsibility to, as prescribed by Federal Law. When businesses give to charities, donates water to disaster victims, or otherwise, it's because its either good marketing for them to get more people in their doors or they are getting a big tax incentive from it. Landlords aren't typically in need of marketing themselves, so that leaves only tax incentives, so unless they get an incentive from somebody, it's usually not going to happen. As American editorialist, Ambrose Bierce, once said:
  6. If the house changes it in any fashion, yes, if they don't change it from how the Senate sent it to them, no.
  7. Typical process. Anytime a bill is changed, even for wording, it must be sent back for approval to the other house. This happens both at the state and federal levels. As far as I know, it is a process spelled out by the founding fathers of this country.
  8. Once they are brought to the floor, they have to be voted on. The vote, however, can also be a vote to shelve or postpone it.
  9. ^ Indeed. Actually, Paul Allen said he supported the change in terms for the very reason being that they built a parking deck there and have at least shown an effort to start.
  10. FYI city council has voted to amend their agreement with the developer of Charter Square. What does this mean for Charter Square? Unlike the other two projects that saw their deals fall flat this year with no extension, the developer of Charter Square got some much more favorable terms. The city, for one, eliminated the requirement that the developer start construction of the towers within 10 months of completion. The developer also now has more flexibility on how many floors the towers are and what the mix consists of. They can even put a hotel in if they wish now too. Two key requirements, however, did not change; the requirement that the developer have a minimum of 50,000 sq. ft. of ground retail and that the project be valued at at least 100 million. http://www.newsobserver.com/104/story/1615997.html
  11. This seems to be the best fit for this, so I"ll put it here... Red Hat has moved up in the world....they are going to be replacing the faultering CIT Group on the S&P 500, making them the second Triangle-based business to be listed there! Progress-Energy is the other listed there. This will only raise Raleigh's profile even more. http://www.newsobserver.com/business/story/1612209.html
