  1. Anyone have an update on this project (or, fairly solid speculation)?
  2. If it's in the parking lot of the SunTrust building (which is my take, anyway, from that rendering), SunTrust's current surface lot would disappear - so I'd think the garage would need to accommodate those parkers, too. A lot of them. Last I heard, that building was fully occupied. The building on the corner of Spring & Broad is historic and culturally significant; no way it's going anywhere.
  3. I find it wildly ironic that literally last week the City was begging us all to vote for Greenville in Southern Living's "Best Food Towns in the South" contest. And now, we learn of this NIMBYness with the food trucks. Wonder if any of Southern Living's other finalists have regulated food trucks out of existance.
  4. thanks! I ended up there tonight for a dinner reception and was really impressed. Terrific atmosphere and interiors, love the open kitchen and new set-up of the space. Food highlights were the Hot Brie Chili Fondue w/tortilla chips (craving them again already), the "Yard Bird" which is chicken & dumplings, and believe it or not, Collard Greens. Definitely will be back for a regular meal, as well as drinks in the bar area.
  5. Anyone heard anything more or been to Roost? Would really love to get some feedback; not sure whether recommend it to visitors yet. Thanks!
  6. I'd love to see a 2nd Starbucks open on Main. Major metropolitan areas have Starbucks and Dunkin's on every block. And if One can attract them, go for it. I think it says something about Greenville's vibrant downtown that we're at least playing in those waters a bit. And besides that, who are we to say Starbucks isn't "ok" for the development? It's a good, solid company; from what I've seen in this market, a responsible corporate presence. So if One and Starbucks strike a deal, then it's up to consumers to prove whether that was ultimately a smart decision.
  7. When I've had a project that's in such a mess it's impossible to imagine it ever getting completely fixes (including when there are multiple stakeholders and/or funding issues), I'll take a different tack. Don't try to see the finish line, just address the start. What couple of things can we start with, accomplish those, and then addresss the next 3-5 things. So as I was driving from Cherrydale into downtown yesterday, I started counting chain link fences along that stretch of Poinsett, and there are at least half a dozen of them. Honestly, what other major thoroughfare/gateway to the City would put up with chain link fences right along the road? It's ridiculous, actually. Collectively, they detract a lot from how Poinsett Highway looks. Now, what I don't know is what ability any government body has to address that from a code/zoning standpoint, to the point of making property owners remove existing fences. But if it was me and I could only do 1 thing, that's where I'd start. (if I could do 2 things, I'd make Duke Power bury the power lines because they look about as awful as the chain link fences)
  8. I was disappointed (although admittedly, not terribly surprised) to see this my facebook news feed this afternoon: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/neighbors-opposed-to-apartments-at-cleveland-park-stabl.html
  9. Actually, the sidewalk does NOT work just fine. The stretch across from the Bookends, where the "temporary" Peacock fence encroaches on the (still-city-property) sidewalk is a nightmare. Handicapped people in scooters get stuck between the fence and lightpost stubs regularly, people walk in the street because the sidewalk isn't wide enough -- it's ridiculous, but I've seen mothers with strollers walking in the middle of traffic because they can't or won't use that thin stretch of sidewalk. Totally insane that the city's let it stay like that for 4+ years.
  10. DITTO. Who ARE these people? No one I've ever talked to or heard from. Everyone I've talked to is excited that THIS is what's happening with that parcel, excited that a credible developer with a proven track record is behind it, excited about the tenants (Anthropologie in particular), and excited with the general size, height and impact of the project. The guy has a right to represent his own interests, but that doesn't mean we should allow it to affect outcomes.
  11. Interesting. I'm hearing it's not Urban Outfitters - a different not-yet-in-this-market national clothing retailer. And whispers on the Corporate tenant is that it's something you'd have thought would have gone to Charlotte?
  12. From what I've seen, Bob Hughes isn't one to announce something until all that's safely buttoned up.
  13. The Mayor is notorious for bluffing, but on this one, I suspect the fact that it's "gone quiet" is an indication that something's about to happen. It's serious enough and imminent enough that the people who have the real details can't and won't say anything. Now, if anyone wants to talk about an urban park, let's have a good hard look at the Peacock site, shall we?
  14. In addition to the convenience of not having to change planes, the other nice thing about one-stops is that you definitely, definitely won't miss your connection. I have no idea if it really works this way, but (for example) it would seem that if Southwest sees particularly high traffic on those GSP-BWI-BOS flights, it could impact their decision to add a GSP-BOS direct flight in the future.
  15. Downtown 6 years; couldn't have said it better myself.
