  1. I think the Tide will have the same trains made by Siemens. They'll have different color schemes of course, and the stations will be different. Charlotte went with the more modern look, Norfolk seems to be going for more traditional stations. I personally wish our stations were more modern, but Norfolk thinks it has an identity as a column and pediment kinda place. We'll see how it all comes together... I'm getting more optimistic and excited as this thing gets closer and closer to reality.
  2. Interesting video with alot of info and video of Charlotte's Lynx.
  3. Actually, that is a couple of options rolled into one for the purposes of the study. Of course a new crossing plus an expanded HRBT will ease traffic, and this is obviously an ideal solution. We still don't have a dime to put toward either.
  4. Have you been on the Western Freeway recently? Not much room anymore...
  5. I'm gonna help Vdogg out and refrain from responding to rus's obsession with Obama's inevitable failure and remind everyone to stick on the topic at hand, which is not short-term increase in national debt vs. decade long recessions, but simply Norfolk's light rail. Light rail is awesome, let's continue talking about THAT!
  6. Yeah let's ignore the fact that I posted a reason not to spend the stimulus where it won't have an impact, so we can just make snarky comments and relish in our perceived political superiority. Glad you felt the need to mention Sarah Palin, because that's about the only part you got right.
  7. With the talk going around about a stimulus package under Obama, and the emphasis on infrastructure, the Conference of Mayors put together lists for participating cities of projects that are "shovel ready." It's interesting to see what Norfolk and Virginia Beach have put together. VA Beach has over a billion worth of these so-called shovel ready projects. The lists are questionable, to say the least, with some cities asking for things like moving prostitutes off some streets and building dog parks. Hopefully when this stimulus goes through, it will be done in the most pragmatic way where we get the most economic bang for the billions of bucks. Also, we don't need any bridges to nowhere, or projects out in the boonies... especially the VA boonies. I don't want to hear about some turnpike from Turkey Fork to One Tooth Ridge... The 100 biggest metros constitute a majority of the population, and 75% of our total output, that's where the money should go. US Mayors Ha! I scooped the Pilot. On second thought, it's not that hard. Pilot Article
  8. I started watching The Wire when it first came on, but I lost interest until the final season when I got back into it, thus I missed the HR references.
  9. None of the stations do anything for me. Norfolk doesn't look like the MacCarthur Memorial or the old city hall. It kinda seems like it will be a theme ride, instead of a fresh new means of transportation.
  10. Copied these off Clark-Nexsen's website...
  11. Interesting. Some nice bits of info about light rail made their way into this piece about the Jordan Bridge.
  12. Maybe next time the Republicans will be smart enough to wait until the election's over to show their a$$es. That whole set up could have been done to the other side with similar ignorance. Quick! Gather up some Repugs and ask them, "Who's John Boehner?" or "Which candidate's middle name is Hussein?" or "Which candidate stands for 'family values'?" or "Which candidate is a closet terrorist/communist?"
