  1. I think this is what some people think will happen if they use any form of mass transit...
  2. This should really be in the ODU thread... but I heard that space might become a new basketball practice facility. That really isn't in keeping with the retail surroundings, so maybe that was just somebody's hope.
  3. make some flyers about a rent control meeting, and start some rumors...
  4. How would a train on a single track go back south down Hampton Blvd if it's sharing a lane with vehicle traffic? That's why I got confused, shouldn't it loop or something to get back to the medical center?
  5. Link is messed up. So if the train went up Hampton Blvd, would it loop back down Colley?
  6. I assume that the NOLA setup isn't shared with vehicles?
  7. I just thought your comment was kinda ironic telling someone else to hope all they want, while making a remark that rested solely on a hope at this point. Does it look possible that Town Center could grow into a 165-block downtown? Sure it does. But just because the city releases some plans with some renderings doesn't make it inevitable. That was the point. The "writing off Norfolk" comment was directed at Rokk. My response was more to what the entire discussion had become, not your post specifically mister.
  8. Let's be serious... Va. Beach's "165-block downtown" is nothing but a hope at this point. While Norfolk has had some setbacks (delays, no Granby), it seems to be doing very well compared to Town Center at the moment. It's premature to write off Norfolk just because Va. Beach put out a pretty PowerPoint with its very own Super Dome. With all that said, I hope Town Center continues to grow and become an urban center for Virginia Beach.
  9. Nearly 80% of the over 22,000 students are learning on-campus, which equals about 17,000. It's on the ODU admissions website.
  10. There's only been around 4,000 graduates of distance learning programs, so saying a majority of the student body is teletechnet is just not true. There were 4, now there's 5, garages on campus and at certain times during the week you can't find a spot to save your life.
  11. I understand that's what they did in the Pearl District, and it had a lot to do with its success.
  12. Virginia's uranium potential got a mention in the Economist magazine... you may need a subscription, but I thought I'd post it anyways. LINK
  13. No kiosks please. Maybe you didn't mean kiosks as in those horrible mall kiosks with the annoying people trying to make you buy crap... Also, I just don't like the word kiosks, but managed to use the word "kiosks" five times in one post.
  14. Anyone hear this mysterious explosion? VP It was strange. I wish I had gone outside to see this supposed streak in the sky, but then again I probably would have missed it.
  15. I concede the MLK extension isn't useless. I don't agree that rolling these projects into one makes sense. Why not separate the projects and bid them out? No one in their right mind would disagree that there is a huge problem, but we shouldn't immediately jump on the first offer just because were "desperate." You would put re-tiling the DT tunnel in the top 5 problems in the area? Is that from the proposal, or is that something envisioned from previous talks of the midtown expansion?
  16. Is light rail going to be in a position to just throw money around like that? We don't even know what kind of budget it will have once things are running. I still don't like this idea of a consortium beautifying one tunnel, building a useless highway extension, and creating either two vehicular lanes and no light rail, or one vehicular lane with light rail. Do they get to toll the DT tunnel for putting some lipstick on it?
  17. Mayors talk about sparking regionalism in Hampton Roads Saying and doing are two different things... who wants to bet nothing comes from this little kumbaya moment?
  18. It seems to just be the state wish-list. Ahhh, these are "proposals" sent in by people online. Don't read too much into that, wait til the state releases its plan. Most projects will be maintenance anyways.
  19. Looking at the transit plan here... Is BRT a better fit when more stops are necessary? If so, then I see why BRT was selected for the route through Midtown Ptown. If not, then why not LRT?
