  1. Agree, aside from the heavy smoke clouds, the drinks there are really cheap ($2 amber bock!). Just be sure to bring cash, because they have a $2 surcharge if you use credit cards to pay.
  2. I call it Cancerville, every bar there is covered with cigarette smokes. BTW, I didnt see Sportstown bar in the homepage?
  3. I second FLHeat. Was there last night at the bar and it took them 15 minutes to recognized us, then we order the Punch List only to find out it wasnt ready, then another 10 minutes to reorder, and another 10 minutes just for the drinks. And its a Monday night?! You got a sense that the bartenders didnt even make an effort. Being understaffed is one thing, but geez, can I order a smile with that drink. As for the drinks, sure its good and "sophisticated", but the cocktails over at Saitki sushi are way better. The Shanghai Ginger thingy was good, but it tasted like a margarita with ginger liquer. And for $9 on a tiny glass, I will pass next time.

    The Plaza

Given its panoramic windows, I can see a hibachi bar there that can showcase the interactive and entertaining dining experiences.
  5. I'm surprise that they didnt include a profile of the Waverly in their "2012 Quarter 2" report. (sarcasm).
  6. thanks, that 2nd photo of lake eola at night looks very iconic.
  7. sorry, i did not mean to offend anyone. Was just thinking that since they already renamed Colonial to MLK in Pine Hills and Ocoee area, strecthing it to downtown is kinda long distance. Economically, this intersection is attempting to thrive with new developments. Has any developments in other city's MLK designated streets (ie. Tampa) thrive?
  8. Noticed driving today passed the intersection of Colonial and Magnolia that they were changing (or adding) MLK Blvd to Colonial? I can see them doing that near Pine Hills, but not too sure about at this intersection.
  9. So with retail being Rosalind, does that mean there will be street parking? Also, does this mean residents will park in that garage, elevator down, walk across to the building, and elevator up?

Business wise, it was a smart to move location next to Rusty Spoon (same owners right?). Now the crowd during Winedown can spill into Rusty, unlike before, Pipers and Corona Cigar were stealing some of their profits.
  11. Great write up. The architecture of this complex is amazing. What it needs is one recognizable brand to succeed and the rest of the spaces will fill up. I heard that owners of hamburger marys are looking to open up another of their concept restaraunt in the former Bliss location? I tried to comment on your blog but its giving me troubles.
  12. Didnt realize that urban flats downtown closed and will reopen on Church st at the old Heat space. Anyone know what will take it place at the plaza location?
  13. Yea, that 1.5 mile has to be a typo. Two questions, why dont they just have the building be on top of the garage? And why is the height limit set at 347 ft per FAA? Isnt the courthouse taller than that? Nevertheless, excited that any highrises are being proposed. Hope that Rida site doesnt get built, what a waste for that space.
  14. I just cant see a Subway in that corner. That corner (and area) is too trendy for a suburban chain. Downtown orlando retails are so uninspiring. 4 mexican joints (Muchos, Chicos, Gringos, Tijuana), soon to be 5 custom draft beer joints (WOB, Sonoma, Franks, Draft, Space), 3 7-11 stores, soon to be 3 yogurt stores, and endless salons, pizza, and hamburger joints.
  15. Franks and Steins do not have liquor, and it can get pretty crowded. Versus will have 3D TVs, full hot menu, and if it fully renovate the inside unlike Primetime, it can be successful.

Thats a shame, like it or not, its presence in that corner kept Church St connected. It was an expensive renovation too. The bar bubble downtown is busting.
  17. I got a glimpse of a sign posted on a window next to Burtons in thorton park called Tailgates. Is it a new bar anyone knows?
  18. An ex-employee at Mojos told me that Mojo plans to be open just Friday-Sunday due to lack of business. I sure hope that is not true.
  19. Agreed, went there last night and I enjoyed it. Felt like I was in a different city. Services at the bar was extremely awesome. Surprise by a rather good crowd around 9pm on a friday night. The drinks are not expensive at all. Mix drinks (wells) are only $4, and its huge. The breast chicken, macroni cheese, mash potatoes were awesome, reasonably at $12, albiet the portions can be alittle more. I def. be back.
  20. Kinda plain design and short for such a postcard location. I guess its better than what's currently there. What are the modifications compared to the original design?
  21. And I think the no parking after 2am on Central has to do with street cleaning. Same thing goes for some of the surrounding streets at that time.
  22. Not everyone that goes to downtown are as urban minded as most of us on here, especially females walking in high heels. Additionally the summer heat/humidity can make just getting to your car brutal. I am still puzzled and upset as to why the city does not allow parking on central blvd from 2am-8am at certain locations.
  23. From what I understand, restaurants are not qualified for these city grants unless it is located west of I-4 (Paramorre District). Which is a bummer because there are alot of vacant spots down central that can sure use more restaurants, like a vietnamese noodle house

    Amway Center

I tried to go in during the last Friday home game, so I;m not sure if it only applys durng games....but that shouldnt be the case either.
