  1. The 15th annual Art in the Park festival is this weekend in Falls Park, Sept 16th and 17th. Link to info. Dragonboat Upstate Festival is this Saturday, Sept. 16th, benefiting the Cancer Research & Care Center of the Greenville Hospital System. Link to info
  2. Actually, the Grape was a wine bar AND retail store. I think it would have been nice there. But, there's still Northampton Wines.
  3. The city council originally denied The Grape's permit there. Then the Zoning board allowed it after making them make all kinds of concessions, including wine only (no liquor). From an article in the Greenville News in March.
  4. I sent an email to the Grape regarding their Greenville location since the logos have been gone from the windows for some time. Seems perhaps Greenville pushed the Grape too far and they bailed...
  5. Skyliner, you inspired me to take a trip to the museum today. Thanks!
  6. Saw the fountain in person today. It is beautiful. The painted train tracks are a huge disappointment. I waited until I was able to see them first-hand before commenting. I think they detract from the overall fountain design. I sincerely hope that this is not the finished product. On the plus sign, I saw a little girl playing in the jets of water having a really big time! Big smiles.
  7. Also keep in mind, Carolinadude, that some of the buildings that "are destroying the wetlands that keep the flooding down and under control" and "destroying sea turtle habitat too" are those that house vacationers, such as you and me, in rental homes, condos and hotels.
  8. Perhaps you should avoid taking vacations at the coast if your feelings are such.
  9. I much prefer something like this older rendering to a high rise in this location. There are plenty of other spots off of (but close to) Main Street that would benefit more from a high rise. High rise buildings can do much for the Greenville skyline but not much to enhance Main Street when located right on Main Street, IMHO.
  10. I am with you. I think a high rise in this location would be completely out of place and would detract from the look/feel of Main Street.
  11. Does anyone have any update on the Grape? The Grape at RiverPlace is no longer listed on their website as a location that is "coming soon" and there has not seemed to be much activity or progress in their space. Anyone??
  12. Just ran across this post while reviewing... What a shame. It's been 10 months and that horrible awning is still in place. As far as I can tell there hasn't been any renovations. I dropped in here about 6 weeks ago and it is still the same old smelly, smokey place that it has always been. But, hey, I guess it is what it is... I just hate to see it in such a prominent place (i.e. a LOT of foot and motor traffic pass this place).
  13. September 22-24: Southern Exposure From their site: Southern Exposure Cultivate your senses at Southern Exposure presented by The Cliffs Communities. This three-day experience in Greenville, SC, will showcase wine, food, and music through programmed tasting events, roundtables, musical performances, and celebrity chef-hosted culinary demonstrations. Proceeds from this event will support the 501 C3 (LBDG) started by restaurateur Carl Sobocinski and platinum selling musician Edwin McCain to benefit Upstate non-profit organizations. Also a link to the Greenville News article: Greenville News on Southern Exposure event
  14. I love the exposed brick background and the scoreboard-looking borders on many of the sidebars. I give it a thumbs up.

    The West End

Does anyone have any info on what's going on with Oysters on the West End that was supposed to go in across from Riverplace on Camperdown? I check on it often but there never seems to be any progress. The sign in the window still says coming in May 2006. I was excited at the prospect of a rooftop bar (and oysters!).
