Wow, this is unexpected but great news!! I look forward to hearing the media reports, as well as pictures from tonight's event!

G-man, as you stand there at tonight's groundbreaking, you should feel proud for all you've done to stay on top of this project and keep the rest of us informed. If you haven't met Bob Ellis in person, you should try to shake his hand tonight and tell him who you are. I'm sure he would like to know who has been contacting him so much about the project!

Ok, this is a very cruel tease ! :silly: Would the other be in relation to the project GvilleSC talked about last year on the current Woolworth site? I think he saw a proposal for that site that would have been a new state tallest, but he said it wasn't chosen.

Great news about the Pinnacle! Maybe soon we will have two very tall cranes at the same time (plus the ones for Macbee Project) :yahoo:

I took a ton of pics and after I upload them, i'll post them on here. The groundbreaking ceremony began at 7:00pm with Bob Ellis speaking followed by the mayor. The talking lasted about 15-20 minutes. Then we all went outside and counted down from 10 for the "raising of the building." You will see what that is in the pictures coming in a little while. They had great food catered by Justin's Steakhouse. There was no celebrity unless the mayor was it. I talked to a guy who bought the condo on the 12th floor and he said 4 have been sold out of 6. He seemed very excited about the project as did everybody else. Some facts about the site and building that Bob Ellis told the crowd was it will be the 2nd tallest building physically and height wise. The only building that will be taller than this in the entire upstate will be the landmark building. It will be 15 stories tall, not 13 as originally proposed. It is only the 3rd building to rise on that site in 300 years. The first building on that site was city hall then it was demolished and moved down Main Street. After that they built a bank on that site and it was demolished 8-9 years ago before being turned into a parking lot and now this. This building is going for Gold LEED certification and will be the only highrise in the state to claim this.

^^^I thought the same thing. Bob Ellis said it would be the second tallest, but the rendering shows it will be the third tallest. Weird.

-It's time to "raise the building." They raised that thing attached to the crane to the height of the Ogletree building to resemble the top of the Pinnacle. The crane wouldn't go any higher, so you had to imagine the final height of the building. You might have to make your computer monitor color settings brighter to see the pics well, because my camera sucks at taking pics at night:

It was amazing how many people in their cars stopped right in the middle of the road and just looked up and stared in ahhh. :) It was soo much cooler in person than in the pics. The spot lights really made it look sweet.

Now that groundbreaking has taken place, hopefully it won't be a 3 month wait for construction like the Peacock was. I don't think it will be though, because one of the delays that this project had was not being able to get construction equipment. Bob Ellis wanted to make sure he could before breaking ground on this project, but he did tonight so I assume actual construction will start very soon. :)

Good work g-man, I'm glade you got to go, I couldn't get away tonight, I'm working on a bid for a job

in Santee S.C.

To tell you the truth I'm not that crazy about the design of this building. I guess it's just me but I

think it will look funny between the modern all glass of the Liberty Buildings and the white granite of

the Landmark.I think it would have looked better close to the West end.

I know, don't jump on me it's just my opinion.

I noticed that too, but it is hard to tell in that particular picture. Look at the last model picture. If that one is accurate, then it seems slightly taller. However, the model looks quite different than the renderings, the color is different, and the top is different as well. I think I like the renderings better than the model, as the bright green and white seem odd, and does not look like it will age well. Guess we'll have to wait and watch...
