Virginia Beach Development

There is a proposed new development on the former West Neck Golf Course for 157 homes on 202 acres; 180 of those acres would be open space as well. The course closed in 2009 and has been sitting these ever since. Of course the NIMBYS are crying foul, especially on FB about the proposal. I swear, VB residents are the worst.

This is one instance where I side with the residents and home owners. If I bought my retirement home next to a golf course, then it for corporate greed i’d feel the same way. Obviously some mega builder would want to use that land for something to make profit on.

Im all for building new housing developments but taking away a luxury that people paid for seems wrong. Give them the course back.

The simple solution would be for the Indian River Plantation HOA to purchase the golf course and either renovate it back to being a golf course or into natural land. Though if that doesn't happen, then letting the golf course be developed into housing should happen if that is what is zoned and there is a developer wanting to invest to build more housing.
