guys, i honestly havn't seen any of what I would call "good" excuses for not attending ;)

I agree with your assessment Zisou, I hate to say it, but having tram around did not really help the clubhouse out. All of the guys now look at leyland as the captain. So far the sailing has been good, we'll see what happens in the rough seas!

Yeah, the vivid "Kid Green" as I call it really doesn't mesh well with anything. I wish they'd at least tried to match it with the green/turquiose glass at Compuwares grand entrance. Instead, it just looks like a toy box with kid flairs. Even the nearby Bank "Cheese Grater" One Building seems to somehow fit in when compared to One Kennedy. lol

Zach, the best parking advice (in my mind) would be to go to the Greektown Garage (connected to the casino). You can always get a validation within the casino. If you're not of age I don't think it's that expensive to park there for the day. If you're in on weekends, I think meters around Campus Martius Park are free.

He can't validate his parking Michi, he's not 21. But it's not expensive at that ramp anyway. Take pictures of that ugly beast, they are going to tear the ramp down. Hope your first visit to the D goes well.

LMich, I like the second design far better too. The little cutout areas are cool, and Ilike the overhang near the roof. It would look better if they improved the way the building meets the sky. The boxy top is very 80's.

DOWNTOWN MUNICIPAL PARKING MAP

The parking meters are enforced everyday except Sunday, most till 6:00 PM, some till 9:00 PM and just because there's a meter it doesn't mean that parking is always allowed. Make sure you read the signs and the info on the meter to be sure. The best deal seems to be the lot at Cadillac and Farmer; all day (6 to 6) for $5.00 and $2.50 on weekends, however, with only 240 spaces I imagine it fills up fast. Personal, I like to park at the Cobo roof deck. It

I still can't believe this will be your first time. It is amazing that you live in Canton and have never been to Detroit. HORRIBLE! Have you ever even drove through it, or has your family avoided it all together? How did you get it by your parents?

Nope, haven't even drove through Detroit. My parents have avoided it all together, I tried having another talk yesterday with my mom about Detroit. We agreed that I would show her around downtown Ann Arbor sometime but she has no interest in going to Detroit. I guess she doesn't see any point in going to downtown Detroit because she doesn't think there will be anything to really do. To be honest, I haven't got my parents permission to go there yet but I'm 17, I've lived in Canton my whole life wanting to go to Detroit and don't feel like waiting any longer. I get to go to all other downtowns in the area as you can tell from my photobucket but I know Detroit will blow me away a lot more then any other towns.

Yeah it sucked. But the day was beautiful and while I was waiting to get inside I heard this really familiar voice. I turn around and its George freaking Blaha. Got a picture with him and got to talk basketball for 10 min. Class act, funny thing was is that he wanted to talk basketball with me, I was simply content with the photo.

Personally, I feel sorry for you Zach. I mean, the main city in the region you live in and you have never ever been there. That is dumb. It's just dumb. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE show them a good time if you ever bring them down to Detroit. And don't go off the beaten path because then they will get a bad impression of Detroit. Just start in New Center and go through Midtown and Downtown and visit the riverfront and Belle Isle. Once they are comfortable with those areas, you can bring them down again and take some more adventures.

There are far too many people in the region who think like your parents, Zachariah. And that is exactly why I think Detroit has so much hidden potential, there are all these dollars floating around the region and a change in perception is all it would take to flood downtown Detroit with them. The next generation of kids will be much more likely to visit Detroit regularly, of course, but there's still oppurtunity to bring back the older generation, the ones who haven't been downtown in 20 years. I'm sure no metro area has a higher portion of people like that and it's a huge untapped market.

I remember taking my parents and grandmother who's from MNPLS through the East side. They liked it and saw a lot of potential. I also remember how shocked my grandmother was to see Hudsons gone downtown. She already knew it had been demoed, but had not yet seen the huge hole of where it used to be. But she saw Detroit heading in the right direction.

Zach, I find it crazy in that your parents let you go to Ann Arbor and not Detroit. We do have crime here in A2 as well. One of my friends was recently robbed at gunpoint at 9:00 pm just off a very busy street. It goes to show that crime happens anywhere. I think people like your parents need to stop living in a shell fearing for their life and just face reality. You get mugged? So what. You'll recover your losses and life goes on, if you don't do anything stupid. And just like any major city, we have a lot break-ins, car thefts, and electronics stolen at the libraries. Recently, a group of 5 men were caught snooping around the architecture school scouting out our unattended computers and powertools. They were going to wait for the right time and swipe everybody's stuff.

I don't want to make AA sound like it's full of crime. Reallly, it's a safe city, but it goes to show peoples thoughts are totally based on stereotypes.
