  1. A rendering of the renovated Argonaut shows the garages removed with a parking lot and some type of building in its place http://www.collegeforcreativestudies.edu/argonaut
  2. Great idea let's make projects even more dependent on adjacent parking. So what building(s) should be knocked for the garage so you aren't momentarily inconvenienced. Seriously there's no major city that doesn't face the same problems
  3. I love the new sign. The Music Hall is so underratted in terms of its beauty I think it easily has the beautiful exterior of any theater
  4. No kidding they look more like low income housing than upscale condos.
  5. Yeah the blizzard of 2000 was a major black eye for the city. Just wish my street would be plowed the first day, they alway seem to take a few days with mine.
  6. The first "mystery project" may have been solved, this lot was fenced off today and looks like work finally started on converting the former Crystal Ballroom into lofts. .
  7. Next to the BC, MidMed is my favorite project in the city. To see the building go from a couple of walls, a few months ago, to today is just amazing.
  8. The Downtown Partnership released a market study in Oct here are their findings Larger population base than currently understood. 6,500 downtown residents; and 74,300 residents in downtown and neighborhoods oriented toward downtown. $1.4 billion in annual aggregate income for the residents of downtown and the neighborhoods oriented toward downtown. 80,500 downtown workers, composing 21 percent of the city's total employment. http://www.downtowndetroit.org/ddp/newsroo...it_in_Focus.pdf
  9. That copper didn't just fall off it was stripped.
  10. I've heard about the HVAC too as an issue for the Met. Forgotten Michigan has interior shots judge for yourself
  11. BZA= Board of Zoning Appeals You might want to offer your insight about this over at DY one the forumers lives nearby a got hearning notice for the project. It's titled: DuCharme Place Partners LLC and 1544-56 E. Lafayette( for some reason it won't let me link directly to the thread)
  12. You do know they list events on the website? July 14 - Compuware presents The Landsharks Band at 7pm. Rock n' roll beach party kicks off at 5:30pm
  13. Ilitch really no has excuse not do this to the Fine Arts if the market can support the price to do this in Midtown they do it in a prime downtown location.
  14. Mid-Med Lofts was mentioned recently Lowell posted this pic of it on DY
  15. Detroit to an extent has been victim of its success. The sharp increase in property value now makes selling much more worthwile. Also there seems to be some alienation from all the progress downtown many don't see how progress there benefits them so they feel even more ignored Add in traditional issues like schools and crime that how get people fleeing at record rate
  16. It works because there would be even fewer cops on the street if they hadn't reorganized. By going to larger districts fewer cops working desk=more cops in the street. Of course the layoffs offset that but department is mor efficient. Maybe Ella wouldn't have cut so many officers if the unionsa agreed to pension/health care concessions. Or the unions would agree to allow more civilians to work non-police duties instead we have pay 40K to clerks who should be on the street. Also lets not forgot a couple years back when homcides were up 50% early in year by the of end homcides rose 5% so summer doesn't necessarily means it will get worse
  17. Give me a break this some of the dumbest s*hit I've ever read. Yeah it's the city's fault Proof pistol whipped and shot a guy you go around doing that someone will eventually shoot you. As far as I'm concerned he brought it on himself
  18. I think all meters are free weekends I usually park on Washington Blvd or Cadillac Sq. Weekdays there's free parking on W. Adams if you don't mind parallel parking and the walk.
  19. I love the new look, this will take no getting use to for me.
  20. Towmhouses are tacky, but otherwise they did good. The building are built to the streeet and they minimized the impact of parking by putting of out of view
  21. There's s better rendering of it on the front page I wish they had included these with the article. I was going to agree it was crappy design until I saw how it'd look from the street http://www.freep.com/assets/static/pdf/front.pdf This link is only good for today
  22. I love when they light it different colors hopefully they'll do it more often this year for holidays/events
  23. The only CC member to keep an up to date agenda is Watson. The Planning Commision does keep mintues it's a pretty good way to keep up on developments http://www.detroitmi.gov/legislative/CityC...n_currently.htm
