Flooding in Charlotte

Poor guy! Flooding has a been a big problem in the area and if Ivan hits us with more rain even more could fall victim to flooding I'm afraid.

That flood pales in comparison to any I've seen around here. The bad thing about floods is that they destroy everything. What a mess! And with Ivan it has the potential to get worse.

Too bad for the people on Mt Island Lake whose homes got flooded. I figure that Duke would rather deal with them, than the million dollar homes on Lake Normon.

The current forcast track has Ivan dumping another 10 in of rain in the NC mountains...this could be disasterous.

That chart of the dams is really cool. I had never considered that way of looking at a river system before.

Its interesting that after this flooding, the lake is so low now you can actually walk out to some of the channel markers. The low levels were of a concern to organizers of the CITGO Bassmaster Tournament, which will stop at Lake Norman March 17-20.

Apparently Duke drops the levels so the cold will expose non-native invasive weeds to the cold to kill them. It also acts as a big sponge for the spring rains.

I'm surprised that with all of the concern about terrorism that they let you get that close to the dam and to take pictures of it.
