Well, it seems this was intended as a cultural events type thread so I feel silly mentioning Brews Festival (Beerfest) going on at the GSO Coliseum August 25th, but having been to it before it is not supposed to be about drunkedness, and is pretty cool, but you know... :)

Lois Gibbs, the Love Canal activist, will be speaking tomorrow (8-12-07) from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Blessings Project Foundation, 823 Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem. A reception will follow. The talk is free.

On Monday, Gibbs and other environmental activists will begin a weeklong campaign to raise awareness about megadumps with a news conference at 12:30 p.m. at the Forsyth County Government Center, 201 N. Chestnut St., in downtown Winston-Salem.

ISP Homecoming Celebration in Downtown Winston-Salem - Thursday, August 16

Winston-Salem will become the center of the college athletics world with the ISP Homecoming. This event will bring athletic directors, basketball and football coaches and other sports industry leaders from across America to Winston-Salem to commemorate ISP Sports' 15th anniversary and the company's new headquarters and national broadcast studios on Trade Street.

community activities:

-a once-in-a-lifetime parade of bands, cheerleaders and mascots, starting at 3:45 p.m. through downtown along Fourth and Trade Streets.

-Marching bands include Ohio University, NC A&T and Winston-Salem's own WSSU.

-Cheerleaders and mascots will represent more than 25 colleges from across the US.

-the UCLA Bruin, the Auburn and Clemson Tigers, the Virginia Tech Hokie Bird and the Wake Forest Demon Deacon.

ISP Sports will host an Ultimate Tailgate for invited guests at the Benton Convention Center. The dinner is being prepared under the direction of Bobby and Jamie Deen, who have a prime time show on the Food Network called Road Tasted and are the sons of chef, author and television host, Paula Deen.

Parade Route

The Parade route is a 1/2 mile in length and runs through the heart of Downtown Winston-Salem. The Parade will begin on 4th Street at Poplar Avenue at 3:45 p.m. and proceeds east on 4th Street and will turn north (left) on Trade Street. The Parade continues on Trade Street to 7th Street.

For the first time, the prestigous Cirque du Soleil is coming to Greensboro. Greensboro is only one of a hand full of tour cities in the US that is hosting Cirque du Soleil. The show begins Sept 19-23, 2007. The show will play to its 10,000,000th spectator during the five-day run.
