Wow! Peter Wege is pledging whatever money is still needed to finish the Cathedral Square project (close to $4 Million).

I don't think he was even asked.

You gotta love the philanthropy in this area. We are truly blessed to have people willing to back up their talk with their wallets.

The Wealthy/Jefferson roundabout has left turn arrows in the left lane as you approach the roundabout (you can see them in the photo GRdad posted). I understand this is meant to keep people in the appropriate lane, but it seems like it will be confusing for those not used to roundabouts, sending them into a clockwise rotation. There will probably be a circus of drivers training vehicles practicing this maneuver during the summer months. I've driven through at different times of day and traffic seems to move smoothly. A welcomed addition to the urban landscape, IMO.

Those left arrows stood out to me as confusing too, and I know how to use a roundabout. It took a moment before I realized what they must be for. Not sure if they are the best idea really.

I agree 100%. Looks like you can turn left into oncoming roundabout traffic.

There was a nice collective groan as the number 5 bus made its way around the back to back roundabouts this morning, the driver pumping the brakes hard a couple of times to avoid people unsure of how to navigate them. Some old guy in the back said "THIS IS WRONG," a phrase I'm sure he uses at least once a day. Curious to see what happens on heavy snow days but excited to try some drifting around it in the mighty Escort.

After all the changes I'm still fixated on the large, beat-to-hell, black signal box at corner of Division and Wealthy in front of the Diocese. Is there some kind of Decorating Committee I can get on? Get grandma out there with a hot glue gun and $50 worth of rhinestones.

I had to google it as I have no idea how the two lane roundabout works..

There are instructions on the city's website (www.grcity.us) as well, although you have to click a few times and download a 5.5 megabyte .pdf to get to them.

No worries as taggers will hit it soon enough.

I did the roundabout thing this morning heading East on Wealthy from Division. Looks nice, I especially like the 2 lane one on Jefferson; although, I think I freaked some guy out when I pulled out and he continued around on the inside lane. Hey kids, Big Ben / Parliament. When I got past the 2nd roundabout, I saw a man riding West on a Swift.

What is a Swift and what does it have to do with architects?

Oh, I'm going to be hitting those on the Swift tomorrow morning...

Ted, an architect, said he was going to be riding his Swift. Paul, a restauranteur (you like the sound of that Paul?), said that he saw someone riding a Swift.

I had assumed that a Swift was a scooter or moped brand, kind of like a Puch ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puch ). Turns out it's a folding bicycle. ( http://commutebybike.com/2006/03/07/xootr-swift-review/ )

Ted, can I try out your Swift sometime? Because I'm sure my wife would agree that our garage really needs another bicycle. :)

Someone next to me this morning went straight down wealthy from the inside lane which by my Google search is for lefts and u-turns. How are they going to educate the public against such things?

Seems like I read somewhere about a flyer distribution type of program and some other things to educate local drivers. Can't figure out where it was though to link to it.
