Grand Rapids' next signature shot

This has already been mentioned, but I thought it might be interesting to see where you think the next "signature" shot of GR's skyline will be. I think the old one was the picture taken from bridgewater place looking southeast. It was the background at WoodTV and could be found many other places as well. We won't be seeing a new skyline backdrop on the news for a couple years, but when we do, I think the hill overlooking the John Ball neighborhood from I-196 would be it.

I've been wanting to go to that area that you're talking about since I moved here during a big storm. I can only imagine the type of pictures you can get from that vantage point with lightning everywhere

Somewhat related, is anybody with some photographic and Photoshop skills interested in making some wallpapers for our desktops? Essentially I'd like to see some nice wide shots formatted to fit a variety of screens. Personally, I have two 1680 x 1050 screens, so something that would span two screens would be nice. Check this site as an example of what I'm looking for.

When/If I take any panoramic shots of the skyline, I will be sure to post them in a variety of sizes

I say people submit what they think will be the next signature shot by a certain date and then vote on it in a poll.

Cool pictures, interesting creativity, and a little recognition for the best shots... Sounds good to me.

I think standing on the "Cell Tower Building" (the old A&P building) might produce some pretty good shots of the city once Riverhouse is complete.

A GR mug would be something that anyone could make and sell really. I mean, if I had a good skyline shot, I could drive (or walk) to my walgreens and have a mug made for me... Plenty of distributors online for that sort of thing....

It's that red and white brick building along the S-curve (and just southof it). Very ugly.

6th Gen local must be older than me because I don't remember a salvation army kettle and I don't remember it as the A&P building either. Anyway, thanks for the background info.
