Britt Way Commons

In my opinion, it was no surprise that something major was going to be built on this stretch of road. I think it will blow up by going from largely rural to more upscale suburban like the Southpoint area of Durham did. Overall, I think it is an excellent idea if done properly. Thoughts?

I see Sears, JC Penney, Belk and possibly either Dillard's or Hecht's there. A Movie theater and maybe a bookstore. This should really help spur more development in the area :)... I'm not a fan of the name but as always, it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Dang, we all predicted a new mall would pop up soon along the look. Looks like it came true lol. I guess this another leap into the sprawl magnet the loop is creating. Still, looking at that small pic. What all stores do you think were going to see there.

I agree with the name issue... but I when I heard and actually saw Short Pump Towne Center in Richmond (mall similar to Southpoint - not as massive), Britt Way Commons didn't sound bad at all!!

Yeah. Honestly though, I think of the Friendly Center as an outdoor mall instead of a lifestyle center based on the tenants there. I guess it's just that when I hear "lifestyle center", I envision a Target anchor with smaller stores... basically a glorified big box feel. Doesn't seem like this new development will be that way, but time will tell.

This sounds more like a "lifestyle center" than a true mall.

"Short Pump Town Center" isn't exactly pretty, but the mall is in the community of Short Pump so it works.

This new Greensboro mall should be called something like Southeast Town Center, because anything more creative is lost on the fact that people will just call it "the mall" anyway.

Friendly Center as an outdoor super-regional mall. Parts of it feel like a lifestyle center, but it's not nearly as contrived.

"Lifestyle center" to me is a ton of fake stucco encasing a Chico's and Williams-Sonoma with some benches out front and a bunch of faux downtown elements. A glorified, irrelevant strip mall meant to kill off both regular regional malls and community shopping centers, without the completeness of the former, and without the truer sense of community of the latter.

A cool lifestyle center in Atlanta

which ironically has Chico's and Williams-Sonoma and benches with faux downtown elements. LOL. oh yeah it has a cool Belk too.

It will be an open air mall similar to Friendly Center but it will be more modern and better designed. It will likely be more like The Streets of South Point in Durham. This is good news for southeast Greensboro but traffice will definatelty increase in the area.

I agree. It will complement the Eastern Guilford population boom quite nicely.

i'm glad that this is being built where it is. southeast greensboro needs what it's getting to help kick-start that area. northwestern greensboro has enough going for it right now.

here's a new article from the Triad Business Journal

http://www.bizjournals.com/triad/stories/2.../27/story2.html

Carroll said they have just started marketing the shopping center to possible tenants, and the mix could include a movie theater, restaurants, specialty shops, department stores and big-box retailers. Hunter said one tenant they hope to recruit is an outdoor retailer like Bass Pro Shops or Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI), which is opening its first Greensboro store at Friendly Center
