Louisiana Boardwalk

Recommended Posts

^Thats good to hear.

I would really hate to see the Boardwalk go downhill because of safety problems, so I hope the security really has tightened up there.

I completely agree. I think the Boardwalk will remain a huge success, just as long as the security is kept up. Think about it... some of the most sought-after retailers and restaurants... Bass Pro, Hooters, Joe's Crab Shack, Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Build-A-Bear, Buffalo Wild Wings, and many more... all are located within wlaking distance of one another, just like in Dallas' Grapevine Mills and Houston's Katy Mills. It's got success written all over it, as long as it remains safe.

I had a chance to visit the Boardwalk today. I was very impressed with the development. A nice mix of shops and restaurants. It really gives you the feeling of being someplace like Florida or California.

I only have one problem with the place. They are not advertising the Boardwalk in South LA. They would really beable to draw folks from BR up to the boardwalk if they'd run some tv, print and radio spots in Baton Rouge. Now that I've had a chance to visit, I'll be bringing my better half back later this summer.

I snapped a few shots as well.

Being from this area, it's hard to tell where the Boardwalk advertises, but I agree with you... if you believe the market is there in south Louisiana, they should advertise there. The only negative to that would be, the developer is wanting to build something similar in Lafayette, so people from south Louisiana would probably actually end up going there instead.

Those are some really good pictures, and it shows that I haven't been down there in a couple of weeks now. They put a Mudbugs hockety jersey on the River Goddess statue... very interesting to say the least. And the flowers in front of the fountain weren't in bloom last time I was down there. I also like your photos of Saltgrass. Remember, for Boardwalk to have lured Saltgrass, they had to make an impression on the company. This is their first location outside of Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. The only other location planned so far is in the Denver area.

I hope you enjoyed yourself here overall, even excluding the Boardwalk. I also hope you were impressed with Shreveport's riverfront park. Day or night, that place is a gorgeous site. The Barnwell Center, between the park and the Eldorado Casino, is supposed to undergo a major overhaul soon, so hopefully it won't look the same anymore.

Great pictures, bryde!

I am definately going to try to get up and spend a day or two exploring S-BC over the summer, and I really want to check out the LA Boardwalk.

Also, I have never seen an advertisement for the Boardwalk around New Orleans, and I think most people around SE Louisiana really dont know much about it, or know about it at all, which is a shame.

If you do get the opportunity to spend some time up here over the summer, and you feel like grabbin a cup o' joe or a beer, get in touch with me before you leave for Shreveport and I'll tell you how to contact me.

According to a VIP email I received from louisianaboardwalk.com, over 25,000 people came through the Boardwalk between the hours of 9:00 am and noon on Saturday, April 15, the day before Easter Sunday, during the annual Easter Eggstravaganza, which is a collaborative effort between the Louisiana Boardwalk and First Baptist Church of Bossier City.

Wow! I'm guessing that if it draws that many people, they all had a good time!

WOW! I love that Boardwalk, it looks soo impressive as does Shreveports skyline. I have alway's loved that skyline and thought it is very impressive for a city and MSA of Shreveports size. This makes me want to visit the place even more! :D

Hey man, thanks for the nice comments. :) Of course if you do visit, you'll be welcomed with open arms. That's one of the most comments I hear is how welcoming people here actually here. People get a bit scared of the crime statistics, but once they visit they're typically more than pleased to discover that the statistics paint a very negative picture of a city full of friendly people.

By the way, I found myself being jealous of Branson today. A coworker of mine from NW Arkansas was down here for the day and I was talking about his watch. It's a Seiko, and it looks just like my Seiko. When I asked him where he got it, he said at the Seiko outlet store in Branson for $150. I paid $400 for mine, so you can imagine I was floored by the $150!! We have a Fossil outlet in the Boardwalk, but I'd give anything to have a Seiko outlet. I'd probably have a dozen or so different Seiko watches if we did! :D

Yeah thats one reason I love Branson, the outlet stores are alway's way cheaper. Sorry to about the watch. I know I have said this but I really love that skyline and I takes pictures of skylines all over the US. If I was just an average Joe visiting Shreveport not knowing what the pop. is I would think that the city has at least 500,000 persons in the MSA. I guess it just goes to show you how much a big river does for a city, or at least it seems. That Skyline is just so balanced and beautiful! Springfield could learn a thing or two from this city. Two Springfield developers are planning a 30 story office tower and a 22-28 floor hotel for downtown. I just hope that when these are done they will look as balanced as Shreveports.

BTW that Boardwalk thing really seems alot like the Branson Landing Boardwalk. They both will have trolleys, boardwalk, lots of stores, bass pro, hilton....... if you ever check the Springfield forum out you should definately look at this development.

Again, thanks. :) I've always loved the skyline here, and I love driving into the city in the mornings from the east as I drive right past downtown on the freeway.

FYI, that skyline photo is old. While the skyline still looks mostly the same, the riverfront area is much more beautiful now. It's got a very scenic park with a colorful seawall. Compare it to the photo you posted and you'll see the difference. Here's a photo of what it looks like now (this is one of my own photos.)

And just incase you're interested, here's my own collection of skyline photos. I have a few that belong to NCB, from here on UP, as well.

By the way, I knew Branson was getting a Bass Pro Shop, but I wasn't sure what kind of development it was going in. Sounds pretty cool. I've actually always wanted to visit the main Bass Pro in Springfield, so hopefully I'll make it up that way within the next couple of years. My coworker was even telling me I should get up there and check the place out.

Never even heard of Shreveport-Bossier? Wow, that's one I haven't heard in quite a while! I remember not much more than a decade ago, it was nothing to hear someone say, "Shreveport?? Where's that?" I actually thought we'd gotten over that until a couple days ago, on another forum, I saw someone from NYC say "Where is Shreveport? USA or Canada??" I was a little surprised, but I suppose this means we still have a ways to go with promotion. Heck, every time I visit Illinois and meet someone new, they've all heard of Shreveport... most just think it's a suburb of New Orleans. They think ALL of Louisiana is a suburb of New Orleans for that matter!

I'm glad they enjoyed the area, and they're right... if you wanna see a huge collection of good-looking ladies, the Boardwalk is definitely the place to do that! I do hope they return someday and enjoy themselves yet again.

Birmingham is very strange... it's a huge city, but with a city population not much higher than Shreveport. It's a different type of place in that respect, but it's definitely a progressive place.

A friend of mine in New York has never heard of Shreveport. He thought Texarkana was a monument. I was like OOOKKKAAYY!

That was strange. I could connect to every other area of this site, but for the last couple of minutes I haven't been able to respond to this one post. Very strange.

Anway, to respond, I'm not surprised at all. Shreveport has 200,000 people compared to how many millions in New York City? To New York City people, that city is the center of the universe and they don't know about many other cities unless they travel a lot. But if your city is the center of the universe, why would you travel? There's no need... you have everything you need right there in your own city.

What the heck did he mean by "a monument?" So he thought Texarkana was a statue or something? Now that's one of the funniest things I've ever heard. How strange.

Yea, Shreveport doesn't seem to big when you compare 200,000 to 8 million, and around 400,000 in the metro to 21 million in NYC. Hell, not many cities do. Out of all the cities in the world, think of the handful that can compare to New York City in population. It's one hell of a city, and like you said, it literally has everything.

That picture does look a whole lot better! I really like that landscaping on the river front. I also have to say that after checking out the Louisiana Boardwalk website I really have not seen any thing this coll on a river besides San Antionio Riverwalk! :D

Hey man, thanks.

Anyway, the Boardwalk was originally going to be called the Louisiana Riverwalk. But then the company that owns the Riverwalk Marketplace in New Orleans decided to sue over the usage of the word 'Riverwalk' in the name. I always thought that was so stupid, because we're 6 hours north of New Orleans, AND other cities use the word 'Riverwalk' as well, with San Antonio being the most obvious.

In the beginning, many ideas were tossed around, including building an inlet off the river to replicate what they have in San Antonio. But in the end, they decided to do something more unique to the south. And thus the current Louisiana Boardwalk design was born.

I've been very pleased with everything about the project, from the facades, to the streets, to the trolley and even the level of businesses they've attracted. Definitely worth of praise, and I'm proud to have it in my area.
