The filming of the Lincoln movie in Capitol Square will delay the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony from December 2nd until December 10th.

However, the 5-Star JEFFERSON HOTEL will have its party Monday November 28th.

Sorry: I hit the "Post" button twice. But while I've got your attention, note that the Grand Illumination will take place in James Center on Friday, December 2nd.

John Murden has posted this picture and info about the December 10th illuminated regatta on The James River.

This is the famous view from Libby Hill of the bend in the river which inspired William Byrd to name the city after Richmond-on-the-Thames.

What better place to see a Model Train set-up than Richmond's old Broad Street Union Station. It was converted a couple of decades ago into The Science Museum of Virginia in the 2500 block of West Broad Street between Davis Avenue and Robinson Street.

The exhibit will continue today and tomorrow.

The start of ice skating on the temporary rink downtown had to be postponed last week because of temperatures that were just too balmy.

Not to worry. Even though temps won't drop below the freezing mark this week, RVAIce Rink will open tomorrow night, Thursday, December 1st.

This Saturday (Dec. 3rd), the annual Christmas Parade (sponsored this year by Dominion) will begin on West Broad at the DMV building and end at 7th Street. Included will be giant baloon characters, floats, dozens of marching bands and old Santa himself.

And the weather should be ideal.

Here is a colorful slideshow of last year's parade from Richmond dot com:

Downtown Richmond is going to be one busy place this weekend. Action has begun as I type this with over 400 Fan Free Clinic volunteers converging on Browns Island to commemorate the fight against Aids by simultaneously raising red umbrellas. It should be a sight to see from nearby high rise windows.

Tonight (Thursday 12/01) RVA on Ice begins on Broad between 6th and 7th while "Barney Live in Concert" lights up the stage of The Carpenter Theatre directly behind the ice rink. Meawhile, Switchfoot & Airborne Toxic Event will be on stage diagonally across Broad Street at The National. And several blocks west, "My Fair Lady" continues its run at The Empire Theatre.

Then on Friday (tomorrow) -- The Grand Illumination in James Center at 6PM and the group called "Zeds Dead" at The National and "My Fair Lady" at the Empire.

Saturday is the huge Dominion Christmas Parade starting on West Broad at The Science Museum at 10AM and winding up in front of The National Theatre at 7th Street.

There is a 2PM matinee (and an 8PM evening performance) of "My Fair Lady" at The Empire.

Two different shows at The National: Comedian Michael Ian Black at 7PM and "Big Gigantic" beginning at 9:30PM.

The Richmond Coliseum will have an Arena Racing event beginning at 7PM

The Richmond Symphony Pops will be performing its annual "Let It Snow" concert in The Carpenter Theatre at 8PM.

And all through these goings-on, Steven Spielberg and cast will be filming scenes from the Lincoln movie in The Capitol Square area requiring several street closures..

Good luck on finding parking.

There will be mobs of people in James Center tonight for the Grand Illumination.

One block away from most of the action is LA PARISENNE BISTRO & CAFE. It has floor to ceiling windows on two sides of The William Mullen Building at the corner of 10th and Canal Streets.

It will be open tonight at 5:30 for drinks and dinner. 804/225-0225

This video may bring a tear to your eye. :)

In last year's Richmond Christmas Parade, Rudolph did not quite clear an overhanging traffic light at Meadow and Broad Streets and deflated to the chagrin of all watching. The incident made the National news.

Watch old Rudy this year as he struggles to slip under a similar obstacle in the Gallery District on West Broad Street.
