Thunder Enterprises to develop Riverton with $300 million master planned community in North Chattanooga

Riverfront project to include 400 homes, trails, commercial village in Lupton City

Thornton's Thunder Enterprises last week finalized the purchase of more than 200 acres in Lupton City on the Tennessee River, where developers of the Riverton mixed-use community have drawn up plans for some 400 homes around a village of neighborhood restaurants, stores and medical offices. Although the new owners are still studying the site and developing their plans, Thornton estimates the project should bring $300 million of investment to the riverfront site as it is built out over the next five years or so.

"To have 200 acres so close to downtown Chattanooga along the Tennessee River looking across the river at forests and the beautiful Lookout Mountain in the background makes this a spectacular piece of property," Thornton said.

A new buyer for a nearly century-old downtown Chattanooga tower has plans to restart a long-stalled hotel project with work slated to begin in a few weeks, officials said.

The bank's former basement vault is slated to become a speak-easy-style bar, Strigenz said.

An affiliate of a Milwaukee company paid $4.9 million for the 11-story Chattanooga Bank Building with plans to renovate the historic high-rise at 736 Broad St. into a Tapestry Hotel by Hilton.

Emily Mack, chief executive of the downtown nonprofit redevelopment group River City Co., said by phone HKS is estimating the project at $59 million and using federal historical tax credits.

This project had been announced over a year ago but has been delayed. It received a $300,000 grant from the State of Tennessee last March.

An important proposal just west of downtown near the river has been revealed as a group of investors under the name of 'The Sports Car Garage Group' is seeking a rezoning of the former auto dealership property. According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, a $100 million, 10 story, 621 units with 907 parking spaces and probably 10,000 sf of commercial space, including a top floor restaurant, is proposed for the former Kelley Subaru tract at M. L. King Blvd with Riverfront Pkwy.

I wonder how this will impact the proposed, huge development called 'The Bend' in this same district. Six hundred apartments hitting the marked soon could hurt what the Bend developers, Urban Story Ventures, wants to do.

A groundbreaking was held today to begin construction  on a 4 story Hyatt Caption hotel in Chattanooga's trendy downtown 'Southside". There are Caption hotels under construction only in Memphis and Nashville and there is planned construction in various world cities. From the Chattanooga Times Free Press...

Downtown Chattanooga's trendy Southside will hold the city's first Hyatt hotel as a developer plans a five-level, 123-room location near the key Main and Market streets corner.

A nearly new brand called the Caption by Hyatt will go up at 105 W. Main St. if the proposed $30 million project receives city approval next month, said Hiren Desai, chief executive of Chattanooga-based 3H Group Inc.

Desai said the planned downtown lodging will be only the second or third Caption site worldwide.
