Richmond in Pictures II

I don't have much against West Creek than I do with Short Pump. I only wish that the companies out there would one day build downtown. I would have taken my camera if it wasn't in New Jersey then.

Help me out Burt, of the stuff I've posted at RCW, what else could be transplanted over here?

I don't think any of it should be posted here because all of us locals switch between the two forums - well, maybe some of specific interest should be brought over. Coupe doesn't post his over there nor does anyone on RCW post theirs here.

Incidentally, I ran into the red X problem again with most of yours on RCW. I could activate them if I clicked right, hit "show picture" but it is much too time consuming. So, I haven't gotten to most of them yet. But they're on my schedule - a few at a time! :)

So you're saying have exclusives for each?

By the way the Xes love you!

Well, that's just my thought, Cadeho, but ask Coupe and Guy what they think. Of course, UP, overall, has a much bigger potential audience since it's National in scope, so maybe you SHOULD post here. But 200 + pictures is pretty heavy. Why not select the most interesting ones to share here.

And yes, those damned red x's love me. They follow me wherever I go!

hahaha thanks burt.

Guy... here's my 2-step secret :

1. Aim

2. Click

I have to say that my favorite shot from today is the one of City Hall...it almost looks heavenly. "cute" shot of me and the gf at maymont too, but I didn't post it.

You get more artistic and talented with each set. You're a quick learner.

Have to be somewhere at 8PM. See you all later.

Burt you sent he Xes after me! 3, 4, 5, 6, 12, 13, 14 and 16 aren't working for me for some reason. Otherwise great shots. Do you ever have to edit yours because mine always have to be lightened. I notice I do tend to stay in one part of the city these days. The last time I saw the Carillon in person had to have been when I was... maybe 11? The same for Maymount. I'll make my way out there eventually.

We need a Richmond photographer's club.

Now only 4, 12, and 13 aren't working. It's something going on with me on this end.

I was looking at some of the photos you took today Coupe (all which are great BTW :) ) and I know that there is a foot bridge that exists underneath the Lee bridge, but I wish there was a pedestrian walk that went all the way across the river that then would maybe lead to a "river walk" on the Manchester side of the river. Perhaps one of the old train bridges that exist could be redone to be a pedestrian walkway across the river.

Isn't there an old railway bridge now acessible to pedestrians from Riverside Park south of the James to Belle Isle? Years ago, we used to jump from rock to rock to get from the south shore to the Island. The Lee Bridge swinging walkway is a great addition.

21 brief comments on 21 new fotos:

1. Neat Broad street shot from about 9th to 12th street. You see before you part of the General Assembly office building; old City Hall, and the Patrick Henry building serving as a temprary capitol building.

2. Best shot ANYWHERE of new City Hall!!

3. Fed Court House taking nice shape.

4. Look, PEOPLE!! Broad street looking west from 9th. State Library on right. Vulnerable old Murphy Hotel building, new Fed CH and Millan Rhoads on left.

5. This used to be Capital Street before being transformed into a park (which PEOPLE use for relaxation :) ) That was Great Grandpa's house at the very end (now owned by the State).

6. Teriffic contrasts. St. Pauls left, old Richmond Hotel right, St. Peter's and Fed C.H.

7. This was the old Federal Reserve Bank. Now Virginia Supreme Court.

8. The Capitol currently being restored.

9. Rafting, anyone?

10. The river IS up. Beautiful skyline.

11. Too blurry, Coupe. Looks like a b&w snap shot from the 1920s. No offence intended. lol

12. Ah! The Italian Garden at beautiful Maymont.

13. A gazebo in the Italian Garden.

14. You see how people liven up a beautiful picture? Maymont with its hills, ponds, gardens, wildlife preserve and Nature Center is such a wonderful place for relaxation in Richmond.

15. The lake in the Japanese Garden. Note the foot bridge background left.

16. Guess this lion is in the Japanese garden. Note all the bamboo.

17. Pastoral scene in the park.

18. Entry to the Japanese Garden.

19. Another shot of the entry.

20. Very artsy, coupe!

21. Note the English style stables, stone walls and the Carillon towering in the background. A beautiful shot.

That's all, folks.

thanks for the comments burt :)...very much appreciated. There is an old rail bridge that crosses the river that I think would be great for a pedestrian bridge linking north and south. (while I wish they could expand the suspended bridge beneath the Lee to connect north and south, I don't think it would be possible). I'll try to point it out in a picture...

Just a few more pics from today. Pretty bad day for pics, but I couldn't resist taking a couple more :)

They're wonderful Coupe. But I bet Guy is glad they're not numbered which precludes my commenting.

When you get a chance check out Skyscraper site - especially Best Future Skylines and Louisville Courts.

I'm not about to be reprimanded again, so I'm closing out for now.

Thanks burt... I'd number them if you want to comment. I meant to number them actually and forgot! :)

Thanks guy... Carloan.com occupies some of the building, but there are also pretty nice apartments/condos in there as well. It's just across Virginia Street from the First Market Bank HQ.

Update! Burt... I've numbered the pictures

Feel free to comment on the pics. I need to take more time myself to get to know more about the history of some of these buildings.
