I was trying to figure out where you were taking that from, then I saw the river. It looks so close, I thought you were on the "north shore".

Heheheh. I just wish the construction barricades weren't in the way . As you've probably figured out, that was taken from inside of the River Place Parking Garage.

With the mountains, the side of the BB&T and the street looking like it runs straight into the mountains, this photo feels very Salt Lake City or Boise....very "west".

Its from the top deck of the Richardson Street garage looking up Buncombe.

Nice shot, NYT! If that BB&T building weren't in the way, you could almost see my house (just kidding).

The only things that could have made this shot better (and this is commentary on that stretch of road and no slight on the photographer at all) is:

1. if those darned utility poles weren't there
   
2. if all three of the stop lights were on arms instead of the one in the middle being suspended from cables
   
3. if there were more street lights along the sidewalks on both sides of the road

Great photos Beowulf. I like the photo of what looks like an old bridge abutment. Great photo, but I'm stumped. No idea where it is located.

OK, I just spotted the "Where is it" thread down below. Second photo more appropriately belongs there.

I know that when Overbrook was first developed, it was connected to downtown by a trolley line. Perhaps that bridge was part of where the track used to go. Anyone know?

Possibly so. If that is, in fact, an old overpass, then it would leave very little clearance for the road underneath.
