The Triad could become home to a casino.

State gambling laws about to change? A developer is trying to rezone land north of Greensboro in Rockingham County (200 acres) for a casino. The Triad would be the first to have a casino outside of an Indian reservation. A bill that could potentially move forward in the state would only allow 3 counties initially to have a casino. Anson County which is close to Charlotte is one of those counties. Clearly something is going on behind closed doors in the state legislative and the developers proposal is signaling that.

For this to be a serious proposal, the developer must  be in with the state senator who is pushing for a casino in Rockingham County and statewide legalization. It  must be looking like they'll have the votes to pass it and Democrats and Republicans are in support of it.  I do question the location which is rural and would likely meet more opposition. Look at the hell Summerfield residents gave a developer for planning a higher density residential neighborhood and we are talking about a casino in an even more rural area. Build  a little closer to the urban centers and they'll be more support from locals.

Looks like the Triad, Triangle  and Charlotte area will a casino if the bill passes. Interesting that they propose for the casinos to be located just out of the larger cities nearby in the next county over.
