  1. TRACAGE ARTICLE IN CITYBUSINESS: http://www.neworleanscitybusiness.com/upto....cfm?recid=7590 CHEERS, DEREK BTW BRAD PITT AND ANGELINA ARE EVERYWHERE DOWNTOWN THESE DAYS!
  2. I think Commerce and Girod was actually Girod and South Peters, that project was killed because it was too tall for the area of the warehouse district. I believe the guy has a new building planned there called the Geneva. The other tower on St Louis I believe is actually part of a planned tower complex on top of the Winn Dixie by the Munincipal Auditorium.
  3. Just got a letter from the Tracage development. All the nescessary sales and permits are in place and they will be demolishing the building on the site soon to begin construction.
  4. Interesting news in this times picayune article: http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/frontpage/ind...&thispage=1 In Particular this comment in the article: Kelly Parenton, who is working with developer Brian Gibbs on a proposed high-rise upscale apartment building at 930 Poydras St., said they need to start construction by March to have the building ready for occupancy by the end of 2008, as they and many other residential developers must do to qualify for special post-Katrina tax breaks.
  5. If you look at the site plan for the new Charity-LSU hospital complex that hotel sits within the site. So im assuming it will serve some purpose like that unless it is bulldozed, which may be cheaper. Also, Donal Trump has a huge new advertisement on the parking lot that will become Trump Tower New Orleans. I see that the Tracage site now has signs for a contractor all over the property.ALso, The Plaza Tower( Crescent City Residences) now has a small crane and other machinery on the site. I think this thing is a go now.
  6. Link to an article about the Hyatt Project in the Chicago Tribune: http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi...hi-business-hed Cheers, Derek
  7. Yes it probably is the Four Seasons or St Regis that has been rumored for that location for a while.
  8. Im sure you could get a vessel there to Baton rouge, but there is no reason for one. Although the bridges could be a problem during high river stages too.
  9. Yes, I do plan on going through with them all except the Vantage Tower. They changed their prices and I just dont think that building is nearly as nice as everything else planned. Also, I think the Woolworth building is dead. I see the building has a for sale sign on it now. Makes sense since they never managed to get a website up. I do believe that some things wont be built. Thats just the reality of any boom, some projects make it others dont. There is also a new condo development planned on St Charles right next to Hotel Le Circle. Dont know what it is but its on a parking lot and looks to be about 12 floors. Cheers, Derek
  10. I dont think it will be too big of an issue and balconies arent the greatest when you get above a cetain height. Its too breezy and I think people will probably rather more living space. Also, dont forget there are pool and spa spaces on outdoor decks on floors 33 and another somehwere in the 50s.
  11. I should say i Just put down a deposit. the actual redesigned unit floorplans are not available just yet. However, Im hoping to be located in the 60 floor range.
  12. I actually just reserved a unit. The main reason for the redesign is they incorporated most of the balcony spaces into the units to increase living space.
  13. The river garden project is right off the warehouse district, I said area ayways. Its located in that weird zone where the Garden District stops and the Warehouse District begins. Cheers, Derek I dont see how something can be a pipe dream if they are hiring Daniel Libeskind. I am sure his services dont come cheap.
  14. Libeskind/Jefferson The project to consist of two 20-30 story towers overlooking the Mississippi River will be one of west-suburban Jefferson's largest.................. Noted architect on Jeff tower job He's planner for N.Y. trade center Thursday, September 21, 2006 By Mark Waller A developer wanting to replace a worn, half-century-old shopping center on Jefferson Highway with what could become one of the largest high-rise housing complexes in Jefferson Parish said Wednesday the project will be designed by a prominent New York architect who serves as master planner for rebuilding the World Trade Center site. Developer Jim St. Raymond said architect Daniel Libeskind, a key figure in redeveloping the epicenter of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, is working on his plans for the Jefferson Plaza Shopping Center in the 2600 and 2700 blocks of Jefferson Highway, near Ochsner Medical Center. Libeskind's New York studio did not return messages for comment Wednesday. St. Raymond recently purchased the 11-acre property from the family that owned the shopping center since the 1970s. He envisions two high-rises of 20 to 30 stories, one specifically for senior citizens that would include health care services, and the other containing traditional condominiums
  15. Here is a link to another condo development in the Warehouse District area. Not much info ont he project, just a rendering but they do have a billboard off the interestate downtown. http://www.noladevelopment.com/
  16. So is there any news to add about these projects. Seems many things are proposed and never heard from again. We should have a thread about when we think the first highrise will break ground. I see the Harrahs Hotel is getting very close to being finished. Plants are going in by the car port. In other news, I hear that Ghost Bar is one of the new bars moving into the Fulton Street Experience. Still, no word on what the other bars and restaurants will be. Seems like it will be very upscale and trendy. I was worried it was going to become a Fannypackin Paradise. Cheers, Derek
  17. I did see on the city council website they are selling some property(city owned to the Trump People for the building). Good news, this building will be one of the many things that will show the outside world we are not only coming back but that we are determined to do it even better.
  18. Well Good luck with your purchase there. I think that is going to be a near area. Nate, how did you hear about this 1,000 foot project in New Orleans and do you have any idea where it may be located. Cheers, Derek
  19. To me our best chance to get rid of the project is to surround it on all sides with new developments. Raising the property value of the projects themselves and making them more lucrative to the city to sell. It looks like this is already taking place. The winn-dixie will be replaced by three towers, the Krauss apartments, Woolworth Condo building, the biotechnology center, armstrong park, the new medical center and the texaco building condos would certainly help push the property values in that area. Im really not too worried about these housing activists once the property value increases.
  20. Hahah, I could not have said that better. Its like find me one person who thinks that craphole should stay. Also, its called public housing because the "taxpayer owns it", so when it is economically advantageous for the taxpayer to sell, we should. If the residents dont like it, well get a job and buy a place. If your living on the communitys dime, you should live by its desires. I just dont ,for the life of me, understand why we have public housing for people that drive Mercedes and BMWs that they get from selling crack. And these housing activists should be forced to live in these projects before they can say anything about them.
  21. Now I have absolutely no problem with this project. i think the location is great and we need to throw everything we can in that area to remove the stigma of that disgusting housing project. If we can increas the value of the property, I think we would have aneasier time selling the land that the housing project is on. The height is fine to me as well, since the site is norht of the French Quarter, it will have little to no affect on the French Quarter. The shadows from these buildings will fall to the east and west. So this along with the Woolworth would definitely change the area. I hope he still does something with that property in the Warehouse District that is mroe compatible with the neighborhood. Cheers, derek
  22. Also here is a link to a plan to revive the West End area on the LAkefront. Could be a really nice asset tot he city if done correctly. Cheers. http://www.norpc.org/assets/pdfs/west-end-redevl.pdf
  23. Here is a link to an article on Shell, great news! http://www.globest.com/news/639_639/neworleans/147524-1.html
  24. They just need to fast track projects that have say 20 mil+ value and that will make sure that large scale projects are definitely dealt with. But to me and department that creates revenue should be dealt with. The certainly arent having trouble hiring meter maids. Which is fine because they create revenue but so does economic development. Time is money and it will kill a project if it takes to long. They should partner with Tulane and UNO and get some of the students to help out. Mutually beneficial.
